"If even after this you do not obey me, I will increase
the chastisement for your sins sevenfold, to break your haughty
confidence. I will make the sky above you as hard as iron, and
your soil as hard as bronze, so that your strength will be spent
in vain; your land will bear no crops, and its trees no fruit." [LEV
26:18-20]
About three thousand of the people made the attack, but they
were defeated by those at Ai, who killed some thirty-six of them. They pressed them back
across the clearing in front of the city gate till they broke
ranks, and defeated them finally on the descent, so that the
confidence of the people melted away like water. [JOSH 7:4-5]
The commander said to them, "Tell Hezekiah, 'Thus says the
great king, the king of Assyria: On what do you base this
confidence of yours?'" [2KGS 18:19]
"For he has only an arm of flesh, but we have the LORD, our God,
to help us and to fight our battles." And the people took
confidence from the words of King Hezekiah of Judah. [2CHRON 32:8]
If you have confidence in your forces, come down now to us in
the plain, and let us test each other's strength there; the city
forces are on my side. [1MACC 10:71]
"I am confident that, following my policy, he will treat you
with mildness and kindness in his relations with you." [2MACC
9:27]
He did not take God's power into account at all, but felt
exultant confidence in his myriads of foot soldiers, his thousands
of horsemen, and his eighty elephants. [2MACC 11:4]
But Maccabeus remained confident, fully convinced that he would
receive help from the LORD. [2MACC 15:7]

life your hope? [JOB 4:6]
They are disappointed, though they were confident; they come
there and are frustrated. [JOB 6:20]
His confidence is but a gossamer thread and his trust is a
spider's web. [JOB 8:14]
If in his holy ones God places no confidence, and if the
heavens are not clean in his sight, How much less so is the
abominable, the corrupt: man, who drinks in iniquity like water! [JOB
15:15-6]
For the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot
from the snare. [PROV 3:26]

confidence. [PROV 11:13]
Of forgiveness be not overconfident, adding sin upon sin. [SIRACH
5:5]
Let your acquaintances be many, but one in a thousand your
confidant. [SIRACH 6:6]
The rich man does wrong and boasts of it, the poor man is
wronged and begs forgiveness. As long as the rich man can use you
he will enslave you, but when you are exhausted, he will abandon
you. As long as you have anything he will speak fair words to you,
and with smiles he will win your confidence; When he needs
something from you he will cajole you, then without regret he will
impoverish you. [SIRACH 13:3-6]
Should you speak sharply to a friend, fear not, you can be
reconciled. But a contemptuous insult, a confidence broken, or a
treacherous attack will drive away any friend. [SIRACH 22:22]
Cherish your friend, keep faith with him; but if you betray his
confidence, follow him not; For as an enemy might kill a man, you have killed your neighbor's friendship.
Like a bird released from the hand, you have let your friend go and cannot recapture
him [Taken from SIRACH 27:17-19]
Wealth and vigor build up confidence, but better than either,
fear of God. Fear of the LORD leaves nothing wanting; he who has
it need seek no other support [Taken from SIRACH 40:26]

strength and my courage is the LORD, and he has been my savior.
[ISA 12:2]
O complacent ladies, rise up and hear my voice, overconfident women, give heed to my words.
In a little more than a year you overconfident ones will be shaken; The vintage will fail,
there will be no harvest. Tremble, you who are complacent! Shudder, you who are overconfident! [Taken from ISA 32:9-11]
The commander said to them, "Tell King Hezekiah: Thus says
the great king, the king of Assyria, 'On what do you base this
confidence of yours?'" [ISA 36:4]
To the prophet Hananiah the prophet Jeremiah said: Hear this,
Hananiah! The LORD has not sent you, and you have raised false
confidence in this people. For this, says the LORD, I will
dispatch you from the face of the earth; this very year you shall
die, because you have preached rebellion against the LORD. [JER
28:15-16]
Send the message to all the exiles: Thus says the LORD
concerning Shemaiah, the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah prophesies
to you without a mission from me, and raises false confidence,
says the LORD, I will therefore punish Shemaiah, the Nehelamite,
and his offspring. None of them shall survive among this people to
see the good I will do to this people, says the LORD, because he
preached rebellion against the LORD. [JER 29:31-32]
Woe to the complacent in Zion, to the overconfident on the
mount of Samaria, Leaders of a nation favored from the first, to
whom the people of Israel have recourse! [AMOS 6:1]
But of late my people has risen up as an enemy: you have
stripped off the mantle covering the tunic Of those who go their
way in confidence, as though it were spoils of war. [MICAH 2:8]
Put no trust in a friend, have no confidence in a companion;
Against her who lies in your bosom guard the portals of your
mouth. [MICAH 7:5]
My brothers, one can confidently say to you about the patriarch
David that he died and was buried, and his tomb is in our midst to
this day. [ACTS 2:29]
Now if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast of
God and know his will and are able to discern what is important
since you are instructed from the law, and if you are confident
that you are a guide for the blind and a light for those in
darkness, that you are a trainer of the foolish and teacher of the
simple, because in the law you have the formulation of knowledge
and truth - then you who teach another, are you failing to teach
yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? [ROM 2:17-21]
For we write you nothing but what you can read and understand,
and I hope that you will understand completely, as you have come
to understand us partially, that we are your boast as you also are
ours, on the day of (our) Lord Jesus. With this confidence I
formerly intended to come to you so that you might receive a
double favor, namely, to go by way of you to Macedonia, and then
to come to you again on my return from Macedonia, and have you
send me on my way to Judea. [2COR 1:13-16]
And I wrote as I did so that when I came I might not be pained
by those in whom I should have rejoiced, confident about all of
you that my joy is that of all of you. [2COR 2:3]
Such confidence we have through Christ toward God. [2COR 3:4]
I have great confidence in you, I have great pride in you; I am
filled with encouragement, I am overflowing with joy all the more
because of all our affliction. [2COR 7:4]
I rejoice, because I have confidence in you in every respect.
[2COR 7:16]
And with them we have sent our brother whom we often tested in
many ways and found earnest, but who is now much more earnest
because of his great confidence in you. [2COR 8:22]
I beg you that, when present, I may not have to be brave with
that confidence with which I intend to act boldly against some who
consider us as acting according to the flesh. [2COR 10:2]
Look at what confronts you. Whoever is confident of belonging
to Christ should consider that as he belongs to Christ, so do we.
[2COR 10:7]
I am confident of you in the Lord that you will not take a
different view, and that the one who is troubling you will bear
the condemnation, whoever he may be. [GAL 5:10]
To me, the very least of all the holy ones, this grace was
given, to preach to the Gentiles the inscrutable riches of Christ,
and to bring to light (for all) what is the plan of the mystery
hidden from ages past in God who created all things, so that the
manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church
to the principalities and authorities in the heavens. This was
according to the eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ
Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness of speech and confidence
of access through faith in him. [EPH 3:8-12]
I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in
you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.
[PHIL 1:6]
And this I know with confidence, that I shall remain and
continue in the service of all of you for your progress and joy in
the faith, so that your boasting in Christ Jesus may abound on
account of me when I come to you again. [PHIL 1:25-26]
But you know his worth, how as a child with a father he served
along with me in the cause of the gospel. He it is, then, whom I
hope to send as soon as I see how things go with me, but I am confident in the Lord that I myself will also come
soon. [PHIL 2:22-24]
For we are the circumcision, we who worship through the Spirit
of God, who boast in Christ Jesus and do not put our confidence in
flesh, although I myself have grounds for confidence even in the
flesh. If anyone else thinks he can be confident in flesh, all the
more can I. [PHIL 3:3-4]
We are confident of you in the Lord that what we instruct you,
you (both) are doing and will continue to do. [2THES 3:4]
Thus those who serve well as deacons gain good standing and
much confidence in their faith in Christ Jesus. [1TM 3:13]
I yearn to see you again, recalling your tears, so that I may
be filled with joy, as I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your
grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and that I am confident
lives also in you. [2TM 1:4-5]
On this account I am suffering these things; but I am not
ashamed, for I know him in whom I have believed and am confident
that he is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that
day. [2TM 1:12]
Every house is founded by someone, but the founder of all is
God. Moses was "faithful in all his house" as a
"servant" to testify to what would be spoken, but Christ was faithful as a son placed over his house. We are
his house, if (only) we hold fast to our confidence and pride in
our hope. [HEB 3:4-6]
So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive
mercy and to find grace for timely help. [HEB 4:16]
Therefore, brothers, since through the blood of Jesus we have
confidence of entrance into the sanctuary by the new and living
way he opened for us through the veil, that is, his flesh, and
since we have "a great priest over the house of God,"
let us approach with a sincere heart and in absolute trust, with
our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies
washed in pure water. [HEB 10:19-22]
Therefore, do not throw away your confidence; it will have
great recompense. [HEB 10:35]
Thus we may say with confidence: "The Lord is my helper,
(and) I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?" [HEB
13:6]
Pray for us, for we are confident that we have a clear
conscience, wishing to act rightly in every respect. [HEB 13:18]
And now, children, remain in him, so that when he appears we
may have confidence and not be put to shame by him at his coming.
[1JN 2:28]
Beloved, if (our) hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence
in God and receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his
commandments and do what pleases him. [1JN 3:21-22]
In this is love brought to perfection among us, that we have
confidence on the day of judgment because as he is, so are we in
this world. [1JN 4:17]

according to his will, he hears us. [1JN 5:14]
