"When I came to the spring today, I prayed: 'LORD, God of
my master Abraham, may it be your will to make successful the
errand I am engaged on!'" [GEN 24:42]
He answered, "I will make all my beauty pass before you,
and in your presence I will pronounce my name, 'LORD'; I who show
favors to whom I will, I who grant mercy to whom I will." [EX
33:19]
"Was it without the LORD'S will that I have come up to destroy
this place? The LORD said to me, 'Go up and destroy that
land!'" [2KGS 18:25]
Now it was willed by God for Ahaziah's downfall that he should
join Jehoram, for after his arrival he rode out with Jehoram to
Jehu, son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to cut down the
house of Ahab. [2CHRON 22:7]
This Hezekiah did in all Judah. He did what was good, upright
and faithful before the LORD, his God. Everything that he
undertook, for the service of the house of God or for the law and
the commandments, was to do the will of his God. He did this
wholeheartedly, and he prospered. [2CHRON 31:20-21]
You and your brethren may do whatever seems best to you with
the remainder of the silver and gold, conformably to the will of
your God. [EZRA 7:18]
"But now, give praise to the LORD, the God of your fathers, and
do his will: separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and
from these foreign women." [EZRA 10:11]
As for me, when I came to you it was not out of any favor on my
part, but because it was God's will. So continue to thank him
every day; praise him with song. [TOBIT 12:18]
Judas said: "Arm yourselves and be brave; in the morning
be ready to fight these Gentiles who have assembled against us to
destroy us and our sanctuary. It is better for us to die in battle
than to witness the ruin of our nation and our sanctuary. Whatever
Heaven wills, he will do." [1MACC 3:58-59]
May God bless you and remember his covenant with his faithful
servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. May he give to all of you a
heart to worship him and to do his will readily and generously.
May he open your heart to his law and his commandments and grant
you peace. [2MACC 1:2-4]
But Judas and his men invoked the aid of the great Sovereign of
the world, who, in the day of Joshua, overthrew Jericho without
battering-ram or siege machine; then they furiously stormed the
ramparts. Capturing the city by the will of God, they inflicted
such indescribable slaughter on it that the adjacent pool, which
was about a quarter of a mile wide, seemed to be filled with the
blood that flowed into it. [2MACC 12:15-16]
"To do your will is my delight; my God, your law is in my
heart!" [PS 40:9]
The LORD'S throne is established in heaven; God's royal
power rules over all. Bless the LORD, all you angels, mighty
in strength and attentive, obedient to every command. Bless
the LORD, all you hosts, ministers who do God's will. Bless
the LORD, all creatures, everywhere in God's domain. Bless
the LORD, my soul! [PS 103:19-22]
Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Our God is in heaven; whatever God wills is
done. [PS 115:2-3]
Rescue me, LORD, from my foes, for in you I hope. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your kind spirit guide me on ground that is level. [PS
143:9-10]
Hear, therefore, kings, and understand; learn, you
magistrates of the earth's expanse! Hearken, you who are in power
over the multitude and lord it over throngs of peoples! Because
authority was given you by the LORD and sovereignty by the
Most High, who shall probe your works and scrutinize your
counsels! Because, though you were ministers of his kingdom, you
judged not rightly, and did not keep the law, nor
walk according to the will of God, Terribly and swiftly shall he
come against you, because judgment is stern for the exalted-
For the lowly may be pardoned out of mercy but the mighty
shall be mightily put to the test. [WISDOM 6:1-6]
For you love all things that are and loathe nothing that
you have made; for what you hated, you would not have
fashioned. And how could a thing remain, unless you willed
it; or be preserved, had it not been called forth by you? But
you spare all things, because they are yours, O LORD and
lover of souls, for your imperishable spirit is in all things! [WISDOM
11:24-26, 12:1]
These merciless murderers of children, and parents who took
with their own hands defenseless lives, You willed to destroy
by the hands of our fathers, that the land that is dearest of all
to you might receive a worthy colony of God's children. But
even these, as they were men, you spared, and sent wasps as
forerunners of your army that they might exterminate them by
degrees. Not that you were without power to have the wicked
vanquished in battle by the just, or wiped out at once by
terrible beasts or by one decisive word; But condemning them
bit by bit, you gave them space for repentance. [Taken from WISDOM
12:5-10]
For you show your might when the perfection of your power is
disbelieved; and in those who know you, you rebuke temerity.
But though you are master of might, you judge with
clemency, and with much lenience you govern us; for
power, whenever you will, attends you. And you taught your people,
by these deeds, that those who are just must be
kind; And you gave your sons good ground for hope that
you would permit repentance for their sins. [WISDOM 12:17-19]
Again, one preparing for a voyage and about to traverse
the wild waves cries out to wood more unsound than the
boat that bears him. For the urge for profits devised this
latter, and Wisdom the artificer produced it. But your
providence, O Father! guides it, for you have furnished even
in the sea a road, and through the waves a steady path,
Showing that you can save from any danger, so that even one
without skill may embark. But you will that the products of your
Wisdom be not idle; therefore men trust their lives even to
frailest wood, and have been safe crossing the surge on a
raft. [WISDOM 14:1-5]
When God, in the beginning, created man, he made him
subject to his own free choice. If you choose you can keep the
commandments; it is loyalty to do his will. There are set before
you fire and water; to whichever you choose, stretch forth
your hand. Before man are life and death, whichever he
chooses shall be given him. [SIRACH 15:14-17]
The works of God are all of them good; in its own time every need is supplied. At his word the waters become still as in a flask; he had but to speak and the reservoirs were made.
He has but to command and his will is done; nothing can limit his achievement. [SIRACH
39:16-18]
Fear not death's decree for you; remember, it embraces those before you, and those after.
Thus God has ordained for all flesh; why then should you reject the will of the Most High? Whether one has lived a thousand years, a hundred, or ten, in the nether world he has no claim on life.
[SIRACH 41:34]
Now will I recall God's works; what I have seen, I will
describe. At God's word were his works brought into being; they do
his will as he has ordained for them. [SIRACH 42:15]
His is the plan that calms the deep, and plants the
islands in the sea. Those who go down to the sea tell part of its
story, and when we hear them we are thunderstruck; In it are
his creatures, stupendous, amazing, all kinds of life, and
the monsters of the deep. For him each messenger
succeeds, and at his bidding accomplishes his will. More than
this we need not add; let the last word be, he is all in all!
Let us praise him the more, since we cannot fathom him, for
greater is he than all his works; Awful indeed is the LORD'S
majesty, and wonderful is his power. [SIRACH 43:24-30]
How awesome are you, Elijah! Whose glory is equal to yours? You brought a dead man back to life from the nether world, by the will of the LORD.
[SIRACH 48:4-5]
And now, bless the God of all, who has done wondrous things on
earth; Who fosters men's growth from their mother's womb, and
fashions them according to his will! [SIRACH 50:22]
'Was it without the LORD'S will that I have come up to destroy
this land? The LORD said to me, "Go up and destroy that
land!"' [ISA 36:10]
All of you assemble and listen: Who among you foretold these
things? The LORD'S friend shall do his will against Babylon and
the progeny of Chaldea. [ISA 48:14]
Oppressed and condemned, he was taken away, and who would
have thought any more of his destiny? When he was cut off
from the land of the living, and smitten for the sin of his
people, A grave was assigned him among the wicked and a
burial place with evildoers, Though he had done no
wrong nor spoken any falsehood. (But the LORD was
pleased to crush him in infirmity.) If he gives his life
as an offering for sin, he shall see his descendants in a
long life, and the will of the LORD shall be accomplished
through him. Because of his affliction he shall see the light
in fullness of days; Through his suffering, my servant shall
justify many, and their guilt he shall bear. [ISA 53:8-11]
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways
my ways, says the LORD. As high as the heavens are above the
earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my
thoughts above your thoughts. For just as from the
heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return
there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and
fruitful, Giving seed to him who sows and bread to him
who eats, So shall my word be that goes forth from my
mouth; It shall not return to me void, but shall do my
will, achieving the end for which I sent it. [ISA 55:8-11]
In the vision I saw while in bed, a holy sentinel came down
from heaven, and cried out: 'Cut down the tree and lop off
its branches, strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit; let
the beasts flee its shade, and the birds its branches. But leave
in the earth its stump and roots, fettered with iron and bronze,
in the grass of the field. Let him be bathed with the dew of
heaven; his lot be to eat, among beasts, the grass of the
earth. Let his mind be changed from the human; let him be
given the sense of a beast, till seven years pass over him.
By decree of the sentinels is this decided, by order of the
holy ones, this sentence; That all who live may
know that the Most High rules over the kingdom of
men: He can give it to whom he will, or set over it the
lowliest of men.' [DAN 4:10-14]
You shall be cast out from among men and dwell with wild
beasts; you shall be given grass to eat like an ox and be bathed
with the dew of heaven; seven years shall pass over you, until you
know that the Most High rules over the kingdom of men and gives it
to whom he will. [DAN 4:22]
The Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar a great
kingdom and glorious majesty. Because he made him so great, the
nations and peoples of every language dreaded and feared him.
Whomever he wished, he killed or let live; whomever he wished, he
exalted or humbled. But when his heart became proud and his spirit
hardened by insolence, he was put down from his royal throne and
deprived of his glory; he was cast out from among men and was made
insensate as a beast; he lived with wild asses, and ate grass like
an ox; his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, until he
learned that the Most High God rules over the kingdom of men and
appoints over it whom he will. [DAN 5:18-21]
"This is how you are to pray: Our Father in
heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will
be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily
bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do
not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil
one." [MT 6:9-13]
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the
kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father
in heaven." [MT 7:21]
At that time Jesus said in reply, "I give praise to you,
Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden
these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them
to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows
the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the
Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him." [MT
11:25-27]
While he was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his
brothers appeared outside, wishing to speak with him. (Someone
told him, "Your mother and your brothers are standing
outside, asking to speak with you.") But he said in reply to
the one who told him, "Who is my mother? Who are my
brothers?" And stretching out his hand toward his disciples,
he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever
does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and
mother." [MT 12:46-50] [Note: The above stresses that
observance of God's word is more important that a biological
relationship with Jesus. Some ancient languages have no word for
cousin (and other relatives) so the term "brothers" may
be used to refer to relatives other than blood brothers. The use
of this terminology does not mean that Jesus had blood brothers,
which of course he didn't since Mary is an ever virgin. For more

"What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and
one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the
hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I
say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine
that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of
your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost." [MT
18:12-14]
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he
said to his disciples, "Sit here while I go over there and
pray." He took along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and
began to feel sorrow and distress. Then he said to them, "My
soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch with
me." He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer,
saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from
me; yet, not as I will, but as you will." When he returned to
his disciples he found them asleep. He said to Peter, "So you
could not keep watch with me for one hour? Watch and pray that you
may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is
weak." Withdrawing a second time, he prayed again, "My
Father, if it is not possible that this cup pass without my
drinking it, your will be done!" Then he returned once more
and found them asleep, for they could not keep their eyes open. He
left them and withdrew again and prayed a third time, saying the
same thing again. [MT 26:36-44]
A leper came to him (and kneeling down) begged him and said,
"If you wish, you can make me clean." Moved with pity,
he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, "I
do will it. Be made clean." The leprosy left him immediately,
and he was made clean. [MK 1:40-42]
His mother and his brothers arrived. Standing outside they sent
word to him and called him. A crowd seated around him told him,
"Your mother and your brothers (and your sisters) are outside
asking for you." But he said to them in reply, "Who are
my mother and (my) brothers?" And looking around at those
seated in the circle he said, "Here are my mother and my
brothers. (For) whoever does the will of God is my brother and
sister and mother." [MK 3:31-35] [Note: The above stresses

At that very moment he rejoiced (in) the Holy Spirit and said,
"I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for
although you have hidden these things from the wise and the
learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such
has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to
me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father,
and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son
wishes to reveal him." [LK 10:21-22]
That servant who knew his master's will but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely; and the servant who was ignorant of his master's will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly.
Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.
[LK 12:47-48]
Then going out he went, as was his custom, to the Mount of
Olives, and the disciples followed him. When he arrived at the
place he said to them, "Pray that you may not undergo the
test." After withdrawing about a stone's throw from them and
kneeling, he prayed, saying, "Father, if you are willing,
take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be
done." [LK 22:39-42]
Meanwhile, the disciples urged him, "Rabbi, eat." But
he said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not
know." So the disciples said to one another, "Could
someone have brought him something to eat?" Jesus said to
them, "My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and
to finish his work." [JN 4:31-34]
For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he gave to
his Son the possession of life in himself. And he gave him power
to exercise judgment, because he is the Son of Man. Do not be
amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all who are in
the tombs will hear his voice and will come out, those who have
done good deeds to the resurrection of life, but those who have
done wicked deeds to the resurrection of condemnation. "I
cannot do anything on my own; I judge as I hear, and my judgment
is just, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the one
who sent me." [JN 5:26-30]
Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes
to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never
thirst. But I told you that although you have seen (me), you do
not believe. Everything that the Father gives me will come to me,
and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, because I came down
from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent
me. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not
lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it (on)
the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who
sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I
shall raise him (on) the last day." [JN 6:35-40]
When the feast was already half over, Jesus went up into the
temple area and began to teach. The Jews were amazed and said,
"How does he know scripture without having studied?"
Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not my own but
is from the one who sent me. Whoever chooses to do his will shall
know whether my teaching is from God or whether I speak on my own.
Whoever speaks on his own seeks his own glory, but whoever seeks
the glory of the one who sent him is truthful, and there is no
wrong in him." [JN 7:14-18]
So a second time they called the man who had been blind and
said to him, "Give God the praise! We know that this man is a
sinner." He replied, "If he is a sinner, I do not know.
One thing I do know is that I was blind and now I see." So
they said to him, "What did he do to you? How did he open
your eyes?" He answered them, "I told you already and
you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want
to become his disciples, too?" They ridiculed him and said,
"You are that man's disciple; we are disciples of Moses! We
know that God spoke to Moses, but we do not know where this one is
from." The man answered and said to them, "This is what
is so amazing, that you do not know where he is from, yet he
opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners, but
if one is devout and does his will, he listens to him. It is
unheard of that anyone ever opened the eyes of a person born
blind. If this man were not from God, he would not be able to do
anything." [JN 9:24-33]
After their release they went back to their own people and
reported what the chief priests and elders had told them. And when
they heard it, they raised their voices to God with one accord and
said, "Sovereign Lord, maker of heaven and earth and the sea
and all that is in them, you said by the Holy Spirit through the
mouth of our father David, your servant: 'Why did the
Gentiles rage and the peoples entertain folly? The kings of
the earth took their stand and the princes gathered
together against the Lord and against his anointed.' Indeed
they gathered in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom
you anointed, Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles
and the peoples of Israel, to do what your hand and (your) will
had long ago planned to take place. And now, Lord, take note of
their threats, and enable your servants to speak your word with
all boldness, as you stretch forth (your) hand to heal, and signs
and wonders are done through the name of your holy servant
Jesus." As they prayed, the place where they were gathered
shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued
to speak the word of God with boldness. [ACTS 4:23-31]
We ourselves are proclaiming this good news to you that what
God promised our ancestors he has brought to fulfillment for us,
(their) children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the
second psalm, 'You are my son; this day I have begotten you.' And
that he raised him from the dead never to return to corruption he
declared in this way, 'I shall give you the benefits assured to
David.' That is why he also says in another psalm, 'You will not
suffer your holy one to see corruption.' Now David, after he had
served the will of God in his lifetime, fell asleep, was gathered
to his ancestors, and did see corruption. But the one whom God
raised up did not see corruption. [ACTS 13:32-37]
When they reached Ephesus, he left them there, while he entered
the synagogue and held discussions with the Jews. Although they
asked him to stay for a longer time, he did not consent, but as he
said farewell he promised, "I shall come back to you again,
God willing." Then he set sail from Ephesus. [ACTS 18:19-21]
We had been there several days when a prophet named Agabus came
down from Judea. He came up to us, took Paul's belt, bound his own
feet and hands with it, and said, "Thus says the Holy Spirit:
This is the way the Jews will bind the owner of this belt in
Jerusalem, and they will hand him over to the Gentiles." When
we heard this, we and the local residents begged him not to go up
to Jerusalem. Then Paul replied, "What are you doing, weeping
and breaking my heart? I am prepared not only to be bound but even
to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus." Since he
would not be dissuaded we let the matter rest, saying, "The
Lord's will be done." [ACTS 21:10-14]
"A certain Ananias, a devout observer of the law, and
highly spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, came to me and
stood there and said, 'Saul, my brother, regain your sight.' And
at that very moment I regained my sight and saw him. Then he said,
'The God of our ancestors designated you to know his will, to see
the Righteous One, and to hear the sound of his voice; for you
will be his witness before all to what you have seen and
heard.'" [ACTS 22:12-15]
First, I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ for all of
you, because your faith is heralded throughout the world. God is
my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in proclaiming the gospel
of his Son, that I remember you constantly, always asking in my
prayers that somehow by God's will I may at last find my way clear
to come to you. For I long to see you, that I may share with you
some spiritual gift so that you may be strengthened, that is, that
you and I may be mutually encouraged by one another's faith, yours
and mine. [ROM 1:8-12]
Now if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast of
God and know his will and are able to discern what is important
since you are instructed from the law, and if you are confident
that you are a guide for the blind and a light for those in
darkness, that you are a trainer of the foolish and teacher of the
simple, because in the law you have the formulation of knowledge
and truth - then you who teach another, are you failing to teach
yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? You who
forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do
you rob temples? You who boast of the law, do you dishonor God by
breaking the law? For, as it is written, "Because of you the
name of God is reviled among the Gentiles." [ROM 2:17-24]
But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance.
In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness;
for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself
intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches
hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it
intercedes for the holy ones according to God's will. [ROM 8:25-27]
What then are we to say? Is there injustice on the part of God?
Of course not! For he says to Moses: "I will show mercy
to whom I will, I will take pity on whom I will." So it
depends not upon a person's will or exertion, but upon God, who
shows mercy. For the scripture says to Pharaoh, "This is why
I have raised you up, to show my power through you that my name
may be proclaimed throughout the earth." Consequently, he has
mercy upon whom he wills, and he hardens whom he wills. You will
say to me then, "Why (then) does he still find fault? For who
can oppose his will?" But who indeed are you, a human being,
to talk back to God? Will what is made say to its maker, "Why have
you created me so?" Or does not the potter have a right over
the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for a noble
purpose and another for an ignoble one? What if God, wishing to
show his wrath and make known his power, has endured with much
patience the vessels of wrath made for destruction? This was to
make known the riches of his glory to the vessels of mercy, which
he has prepared previously for glory, namely, us whom he has
called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles. [ROM
9:14-24]
I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to offer
your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your
spiritual worship. Do not conform yourselves to this age but be
transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what
is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect. [ROM
12:1-2]
I urge you, (brothers,) by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the
love of the Spirit, to join me in the struggle by your prayers to
God on my behalf, that I may be delivered from the disobedient in
Judea, and that my ministry for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the
holy ones, so that I may come to you with joy by the will of God
and be refreshed together with you. [ROM 15:30-32]
Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of
God, and Sosthenes our brother, to the church of God that is in
Corinth, to you who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called
to be holy, with all those everywhere who call upon the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. Grace to you and peace
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. [1COR 1:1-3]
The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are
perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the
wise, and the learning of the learned I will set aside."
Where is the wise one? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater
of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of the world foolish? For
since in the wisdom of God the world did not come to know God
through wisdom, it was the will of God through the foolishness of
the proclamation to save those who have faith. For Jews demand
signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we proclaim Christ
crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,
but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike, Christ the
power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is
wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than
human strength. [1COR 1:18-25]
Some have become inflated with pride, as if I were not coming
to you. But I will come to you soon, if the Lord is willing, and I
shall ascertain not the talk of these inflated people but their
power. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of
power. Which do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a rod, or
with love and a gentle spirit? [1COR 4:18-21]
We want you to know, brothers, of the grace of God that has
been given to the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of
affliction, the abundance of their joy and their profound poverty
overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For according
to their means, I can testify, and beyond their means,
spontaneously, they begged us insistently for the favor of taking
part in the service to the holy ones, and this, not as we
expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us
through the will of God, so that we urged Titus that, as he had
already begun, he should also complete for you this gracious act
also. Now as you excel in every respect, in faith, discourse,
knowledge, all earnestness, and in the love we have for you, may
you excel in this gracious act also. [2COR 8:1-7]
Paul, an apostle not from human beings nor through a human
being but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him
from the dead, and all the brothers who are with me, to the
churches of Galatia: grace to you and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins that he
might rescue us from the present evil age in accord with the will
of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. [GAL
1:1-5]
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens,
as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be
holy and without blemish before him. In love he destined us for
adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor
of his will, for the praise of the glory of his grace that he
granted us in the beloved. In him we have redemption by his blood,
the forgiveness of transgressions, in accord with the riches of
his grace that he lavished upon us. In all wisdom and insight, he
has made known to us the mystery of his will in accord with his
favor that he set forth in him as a plan for the fullness of
times, to sum up all things in Christ, in heaven and on earth. In
him we were also chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of
the one who accomplishes all things according to the intention of
his will, so that we might exist for the praise of his glory, we
who first hoped in Christ. [EPH 1:3-12]
Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise,
making the most of the opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord.
[EPH 5:15-17]
Be obedient to your human masters with fear and trembling, in
sincerity of heart, as to Christ, not only when being watched, as
currying favor, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God
from the heart, willingly serving the Lord and not human beings,
knowing that each will be requited from the Lord for whatever good
he does [Taken from EPH 6:5-8]
Therefore, from the day we heard this, we do not cease praying
for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of
his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding to live in
a manner worthy of the Lord, so as to be fully pleasing, in every
good work bearing fruit and growing in the knowledge of God,
strengthened with every power, in accord with his glorious might,
for all endurance and patience, with joy giving thanks to the
Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the
holy ones in light. [COL 1:9-12]
Epaphras sends you greetings; he is one of you, a slave of
Christ (Jesus), always striving for you in his prayers so that you
may be perfect and fully assured in all the will of God. For I can
testify that he works very hard for you and for those in Laodicea
and those in Hierapolis. [COL 4:12-13]
This is the will of God, your holiness: that you refrain from
immorality, that each of you know how to acquire a wife for
himself in holiness and honor, not in lustful passion as do the
Gentiles who do not know God; not to take advantage of or exploit
a brother in this matter, for the Lord is an avenger in all these
things, as we told you before and solemnly affirmed. For God did
not call us to impurity but to holiness. Therefore, whoever
disregards this, disregards not a human being but God, who (also)
gives his Holy Spirit to you.
[1THES 4:3-8]
In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God
for you in Christ Jesus. [1THES 5:18]
First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers,
petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone, for kings
and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil
life in all devotion and dignity. This is good and pleasing to God
our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to
knowledge of the truth. [1TM 2:1-4]
Therefore, we must attend all the more to what we have heard,
so that we may not be carried away. For if the word announced
through angels proved firm, and every transgression and
disobedience received its just recompense, how shall we escape if
we ignore so great a salvation? Announced originally through the
Lord, it was confirmed for us by those who had heard. God added
his testimony by signs, wonders, various acts of power, and
distribution of the gifts of the Holy Spirit according to his
will. [HEB 2:1-4]
Then he says, "Behold, I come to do your will." He
takes away the first to establish the second. By this
"will," we have been consecrated through the offering of
the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Every priest stands daily
at his ministry, offering frequently those same sacrifices that
can never take away sins. But this one offered one sacrifice for
sins, and took his seat forever at the right hand of God; now he
waits until his enemies are made his footstool. For by one
offering he has made perfect forever those who are being
consecrated. [HEB 10:9-14]
You need endurance to do the will of God and receive what he
has promised. [HEB 10:36]
May the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great
shepherd of the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant, Jesus
our Lord, furnish you with all that is good, that you may do his
will. May he carry out in you what is pleasing to him through
Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever (and ever). Amen. [HEB 13:20-21]
Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers: all good giving and
every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of
lights, with whom there is no alteration or shadow caused by
change. He willed to give us birth by the word of truth that we
may be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. [JMS 1:16-18]
Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we shall go into
such and such a town, spend a year there doing business, and make
a profit" - you have no idea what your life will be like
tomorrow. You are a puff of smoke that appears briefly and then
disappears. Instead you should say, "If the Lord wills it, we
shall live to do this or that." But now you are boasting in
your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So for one who knows
the right thing to do and does not do it, it is a sin. [JMS
4:13-17]
Be subject to every human institution for the Lord's sake,
whether it be to the king as supreme or to governors as sent by
him for the punishment of evildoers and the approval of those who
do good. For it is the will of God that by doing good you may
silence the ignorance of foolish people. [1PT 2:13-15]
For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be the will
of God, than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered for sins
once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might
lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life
in the spirit. [1PT 3:17-18]
Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves
also with the same attitude (for whoever suffers in the flesh has
broken with sin), so as not to spend what remains of one's life in
the flesh on human desires, but on the will of God. [1PT 4:1-2]
But whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be ashamed but glorify God because of the name.
For it is time for the judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, how will it end for those who fail to obey the gospel of God?
"And if the righteous one is barely saved, where will the godless and the sinner appear?"
As a result, those who suffer in accord with God's will hand their souls over to a faithful creator as they do good.
[1PT 4:16-19]
Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone
loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all
that is in the world, sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a
pretentious life, is not from the Father but is from the world.
Yet the world and its enticement are passing away. But whoever
does the will of God remains forever. [1JN 2:15-17]
And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything
according to his will, he hears us. [1JN 5:14]
Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks
to the one who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the
twenty-four elders fall down before the one who sits on the throne
and worship him, who lives forever and ever. They throw down their
crowns before the throne, exclaiming: "Worthy are you, Lord
our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you
created all things; because of your will they came to be and
were created." [RV 4:9-11]
