The spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to
Ashkelon, where he killed thirty of their men and despoiled them;
he gave their garments to those who had answered the riddle. Then
he went off to his own family in anger, and Samson's wife was
married to the one who had been best man at his wedding. [JUDG 14:19-20]
He continued: "Since you have the right to marry her,
listen to me, brother. Tonight I will ask the girl's father to let
us have her as your bride. When we return from Rages, we will hold
the wedding feast for her. I know that Raguel cannot keep her from
you or let her become engaged to another man; that would be a
capital crime according to the decree in the Book of Moses, and he
knows that it is your right, before all other men, to marry his
daughter. So heed my words, brother; tonight we must speak for the
girl, so that we may have her engaged to you. And when we return
from Rages, we will take her and bring her back with us to your
house." [TOBIT 6:13]
So Raphael, together with the four servants and two camels,
traveled to Rages in Media, where they stayed at Gabael's house.
Raphael gave Gabael his bond and told him about Tobit's son Tobiah,
and that he had married and was inviting him to the wedding
celebration. Gabael promptly checked over the sealed moneybags,
and they placed them on the camels. The following morning they got an early start and traveled to
the wedding celebration. When they entered Raguel's house, they
found Tobiah reclining at table. He sprang up and greeted Gabael,
who wept and blessed him, exclaiming: "O noble and good
child, son of a noble and good, upright and charitable man, may
the Lord grant heavenly blessing to you and to your wife, and to
your wife's father and mother. Blessed be God, because I have seen
the very image of my cousin Tobit!" [TOBIT 9:5-6]
But she retorted, "Stop it, and do not lie to me! My child
has perished!" She would go out and keep watch all day at the
road her son had taken, and she ate nothing. At sunset she would
go back home to wail and cry the whole night through, getting no
sleep at all. Now at the end of the fourteen-day wedding
celebration which Raguel had sworn to hold for his daughter,
Tobiah went to him and said: "Please let me go, for I know
that my father and mother do not believe they will ever see me
again. So I beg you, father, let me go back to my father. I have
already told you how I left him." [TOBIT 10:7]
Ahiqar and his nephew Nadab also came to rejoice with Tobit.
They celebrated Tobiah's wedding feast for seven happy days, and
he received many gifts. [TOBIT 11:18]
When the wedding celebration came to an end, Tobit called his
son Tobiah and said to him, "Son, see to it that you give
what is due to the man who made the journey with you; give him a
bonus too." [TOBIT 12:1]
After this, word was brought to Jonathan and his brother Simon:
"The sons of Jambri are celebrating a great wedding, and with
a large escort they are bringing the bride, the daughter of one of
the great princes of Canaan, from Nadabath." Remembering the
blood of John their brother, they went up and hid themselves under
cover of the mountain. They watched, and suddenly saw a noisy
crowd with baggage; the bridegroom and his friends and kinsmen had
come out to meet the bride's party with tambourines and musicians
and much equipment. The Jews rose up against them from their
ambush and killed them. Many fell wounded, and after the survivors
fled toward the mountain, all their spoils were taken. Thus the
wedding was turned into mourning, and the sound of music into
lamentation. Having taken their revenge for the blood of their
brother, the Jews returned to the marshes of the Jordan. [1MACC 9:37-42]
So Ptolemy with his daughter Cleopatra set out from Egypt and
came to Ptolemais in the year one hundred and sixty-two. There
King Alexander met him, and Ptolemy gave him his daughter
Cleopatra in marriage. Their wedding was celebrated at Ptolemais
with great splendor according to the custom of kings. [1MACC 10:57-58]
God heard and grew angry; he rejected Israel completely. He
forsook the shrine at Shiloh, the tent where he dwelt with humans.
He gave up his might into captivity, his glorious ark into the
hands of the foe. God abandoned his people to the sword; he was
enraged against his heritage. Fire consumed their young men; their
young women heard no wedding songs. [PS 78:59-63]
They no longer safeguard either lives or pure wedlock; but each
either waylays and kills his neighbor, or aggrieves him by
adultery. [WISDOM 14:24]
Then the disciples of John approached him and said, "Why
do we and the Pharisees fast (much), but your disciples do not
fast?" Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests
mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come
when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will
fast." [MT 9:14-15]
Jesus again in reply spoke to them in parables, saying,
"The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a
wedding feast for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon
the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come... Some
ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to
his business. The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them,
and killed them. The king was enraged and sent his troops,
destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then he said to
his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were
not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and
invite to the feast whomever you find.' The servants went out into
the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and
the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet
the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. He
said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a
wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king
said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him
into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and
grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen." [MT
22:1-3,5-14]
"Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who
took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them
were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones, when taking
their lamps, brought no oil with them, but the wise brought flasks
of oil with their lamps. Since the bridegroom was long delayed,
they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, there was a
cry, 'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' Then all
those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones
said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are
going out.' But the wise ones replied, 'No, for there may not be
enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some
for yourselves.' While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom
came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with
him. Then the door was locked. Afterwards the other virgins came
and said, 'Lord, Lord, open the door for us!' But he said in
reply, 'Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.' Therefore, stay
awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour." [MT 25:1-13]
The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were accustomed to
fast. People came to him and objected, "Why do the disciples
of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your
disciples do not fast?" Jesus answered them, "Can the
wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as
they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. But the days
will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then
they will fast on that day." [MK 2:18-20]
And they said to him, "The disciples of John fast often
and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same;
but yours eat and drink." Jesus answered them, "Can you
make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?
But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from
them, then they will fast in those days." [LK 5:33-35]
"Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants
who await their master's return from a wedding, ready to open
immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you,
he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to
wait on them." [LK 12:35-37]
He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how
they were choosing the places of honor at the table. "When
you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at
table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you
may have been invited by him, and the host who invited both of you
may approach you and say, 'Give your place to this man,' and then
you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place.
Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that
when the host comes to you he may say, 'My friend, move up to a
higher position.' Then you will enjoy the esteem of your
companions at the table. For everyone who exalts himself will be
humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."
[LK 14:7-11]
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and
the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also
invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of
Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." (And) Jesus said
to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has
not yet come." His mother said to the servers, "Do
whatever he tells you." Now there were six stone water jars
there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to
thirty gallons. Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with
water." So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them,
"Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter." So
they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had
become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the
servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the
bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves good wine first,
and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you
have kept the good wine until now." Jesus did this as the
beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his
glory, and his disciples began to believe in him. [JN 2:1-11]
A voice coming from the throne said: "Praise our God, all
you his servants, (and) you who revere him, small and great."
Then I heard something like the sound of a great multitude or the
sound of rushing water or mighty peals of thunder, as they said:
"Alleluia! The Lord has established his reign, (our) God, the
almighty. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory. For the
wedding day of the Lamb has come, his bride has made herself
ready. She was allowed to wear a bright, clean linen
garment." (The linen represents the righteous deeds of the
holy ones.) Then the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed
are those who have been called to the wedding feast of the
Lamb." And he said to me, "These words are true; they
come from God." [RV 19:5-9]

Now, send me men skilled
at work in gold, silver, bronze and iron, in purple, crimson, and
violet fabrics, and who know how to do engraved work, to join the
craftsmen who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father
David appointed. Also send me boards of cedar, cypress and cabinet
wood from Lebanon, for I realize that your servants know how to
cut the wood of the Lebanon. My servants will labor with yours in
order to prepare for me a great quantity of wood, since the house
I intend to build must be lofty and wonderful. [Taken from 2CHRON
2:6-8]
"A new hymn I will sing to my God. O Lord,
great are you and glorious, wonderful in power and unsurpassable.
Let your every creature serve you; for you spoke, and they were
made, You sent forth your spirit, and they were created; no one
can resist your word." [Taken from JDTH 16:13-14]
You made heaven and earth and every wonderful thing under the heavens. You are Lord of all, and there is no one who can resist you, Lord.
[Taken from ESTH C:3-4]
Then Job answered the LORD and said: I know that
you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be
hindered. I have dealt with great things that I do not understand;
things too wonderful for me, which I cannot know. I had heard of
you by word of mouth, but now my eye has seen you. Therefore I
disown what I have said, and repent in dust and ashes. [JOB 42:1-6]
I call upon you; answer me, O God. Turn your ear
to me; hear my prayer. Show your wonderful love, you who deliver
with your right arm those who seek refuge from their foes. Keep me
as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings from
the violence of the wicked. [PS 17:6-9]
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who alone does wonderful deeds. Blessed be his glorious name forever; may all the earth be filled with the LORD'S glory.
Amen and amen. [PS 72:18-19]
We thank you, God, we give thanks; we call
upon your name, declare your wonderful deeds. [Taken from PS 75:2]
The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done; it is wonderful in our eyes.
[PS 118:22-23]
Wonderful are your decrees; therefore I observe
them. [PS 119:129]
You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my
mother's womb. I praise you, so wonderfully you made me; wonderful
are your works! My very self you knew; my bones were not hidden
from you, When I was being made in secret, fashioned as in the
depths of the earth. Your eyes foresaw my actions; in your book
all are written down; my days were shaped, before one came to be. [PS
139:13-16]
Great is the LORD and worthy of high praise;
God's grandeur is beyond understanding. One generation praises
your deeds to the next and proclaims your mighty works. They speak
of the splendor of your majestic glory, tell of your wonderful
deeds. They speak of your fearsome power and attest to your great
deeds. They publish the renown of your abounding goodness and
joyfully sing of your justice. The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in love. The LORD is good to all,
compassionate to every creature. All your works give you thanks, O
LORD and your faithful bless you. [PS 145:3-10]
Three things are too wonderful for me, yes, four
I cannot understand: The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a
serpent upon a rock, The way of a ship on the high seas, and the
way of a man with a maiden. [PROV 30:18-19]
The orb of the sun, resplendent at its rising:
what a wonderful work of the Most High! At noon it seethes the
surface of the earth, and who can bear its fiery heat? Like a
blazing furnace of solid metal, it sets the mountains aflame with
its rays; By its fiery darts the land is consumed; the eyes are
dazzled by its light. Great indeed is the LORD who made it, at
whose orders it urges on its steeds. [SIRACH 43:2-5]
Awful indeed is the LORD'S majesty, and
wonderful is his power. Lift up your voices to glorify the LORD,
though he is still beyond your power to praise; Extol him with
renewed strength, and weary not, though you cannot reach the end:
For who can see him and describe him? Or who can praise him as he
is? [SIRACH 43:30-33]
O LORD, you are my God, I will extol you and
praise your name; For you have fulfilled your wonderful plans of
old, faithful and true. For you have made the city a heap, the
fortified city a ruin; The castle of the insolent is a city no
more, nor ever to be rebuilt. Therefore a strong people will honor
you, fierce nations will fear you. For you are a refuge to the
poor, a refuge to the needy in distress; Shelter from the rain,
shade from the heat. As with the cold rain, as with the desert
heat, even so you quell the uproar of the wanton. [ISA 25:1-5]
Is the plowman forever plowing, always loosening
and harrowing his land for planting? When he has leveled the
surface, does he not scatter gith and sow cumin, Put in wheat and
barley, with spelt as its border? He has learned this rule,
instructed by his God. Gith is not threshed with a sledge, nor
does a cartwheel roll over cumin. But gith is beaten out with a
staff, and cumin crushed for food with a rod. No, he does not
thresh it unendingly, nor does he crush it with his noisy
cartwheels and horses. This too comes from the LORD of hosts;
wonderful is his counsel and great his wisdom. [ISA 28:24-29]
The message which came to Jeremiah from the LORD
when King Zedekiah sent him Pashhur, son of Malchiah, and the
priest Zephaniah, son of Maaseiah, with this request: Inquire for
us of the LORD, because Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, is
attacking us. Perhaps the LORD will deal with us according to all
his wonderful works, so that he will withdraw from us. But
Jeremiah answered them: This is what you shall report to Zedekiah:
Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: I will turn back in your
hands the weapons with which you intend to fight the king of
Babylon and the Chaldeans who besiege you outside the walls. These
weapons I will pile up in the midst of this city, and I myself
will fight against you with outstretched hand and mighty arm, in
anger, and wrath, and great rage! [Taken from JER 21:1-5]
Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock
of your inheritance, that dwells apart in a woodland, in the midst
of Carmel. Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of
old; As in the days when you came from the land of Egypt, show us
wonderful signs. [MICAH 7:14-15]
"Hear another parable. There was a
landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a
wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants
and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his
servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants
seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a
third they stoned. Again he sent other servants, more numerous
than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way.
Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, 'They will respect my
son.' But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another,
'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his
inheritance.' They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and
killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those
tenants when he comes?" They answered him, "He will put
those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to
other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper
times." Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the
scriptures: 'The stone that the builders rejected has become the
cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful
in our eyes'? Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be
taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its
fruit. (The one who falls on this stone will be dashed to pieces;
and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.)" When the chief
priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he
was speaking about them. And although they were attempting to
arrest him, they feared the crowds, for they regarded him as a
prophet. [MT 21:33-46]
He began to speak to them in parables. "A
man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press,
and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and left on
a journey. At the proper time he sent a servant to the tenants to
obtain from them some of the produce of the vineyard. But they
seized him, beat him, and sent him away empty-handed. Again he
sent them another servant. And that one they beat over the head
and treated shamefully. He sent yet another whom they killed. So,
too, many others; some they beat, others they killed. He had one
other to send, a beloved son. He sent him to them last of all,
thinking, 'They will respect my son.' But those tenants said to
one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the
inheritance will be ours.' So they seized him and killed him, and
threw him out of the vineyard. What (then) will the owner of the
vineyard do? He will come, put the tenants to death, and give the
vineyard to others. Have you not read this scripture passage: 'The
stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by
the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our
eyes'?" They were seeking to arrest him, but they feared the
crowd, for they realized that he had addressed the parable to
them. So they left him and went away. [MK 12:1-12]
Rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit,
insincerity, envy, and all slander; like newborn infants, long for
pure spiritual milk so that through it you may grow into
salvation, for you have tasted that the Lord is good. Come to him,
a living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen and precious
in the sight of God, and, like living stones, let yourselves be
built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer
spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For
it says in scripture: "Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion, a
cornerstone, chosen and precious, and whoever believes in it shall
not be put to shame." Therefore, its value is for you who
have faith, but for those without faith: "The stone which the
builders rejected has become the cornerstone," and "A
stone that will make people stumble, and a rock that will make
them fall." They stumble by disobeying the word, as is their
destiny. But you are "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a
holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the
praises" of him who called you out of darkness into his
wonderful light. Once you were "no people" but now you
are God's people; you "had not received mercy" but now
you have received mercy. [1PT 2:1-10] [Note: This does not
mean that all Jesus' followers share in the ministerial
priesthood. As in the Old Testament, (e.g. where God spoke to
Moses: "You shall be to me a kingdom of priests, a holy
nation. That is what you must tell the Israelites" - see EX
19:6) different classes of the priesthood exist, including a
general priesthood of followers who can offer prayers,
thanksgiving, and other "spiritual sacrifices" to God.
The passage above refers to this type of universal priesthood,
which should not be confused with the ministerial priesthood. For additional information on this topic,

Then I saw something like a sea of glass mingled
with fire. On the sea of glass were standing those who had won the
victory over the beast and its image and the number that signified
its name. They were holding God's harps, and they sang the song of
Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb: "Great
and wonderful are your works, Lord God almighty. Just and true are
your ways, O king of the nations. Who will not fear you, Lord, or
glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All the nations will
come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been
revealed." [RV 15:2-4]

"Observe my
precepts and be careful to keep my regulations, for then you will
dwell securely in the land. The land will yield its fruit and you
will have food in abundance, so that you may live there without
worry." [LEV 25:18-19]
When Samuel caught sight of Saul, the LORD assured him,
"This is the man of whom I told you; he is to govern my
people." Saul met Samuel in the gateway and said,
"Please tell me where the seer lives." Samuel answered
Saul: "I am the seer. Go up ahead of me to the high place and
eat with me today. In the morning, before dismissing you, I will
tell you whatever you wish. As for the asses you lost three days
ago, do not worry about them, for they have been found. Whom does
Israel desire ardently if not you and your father's family?" [1SAM
9:17-20]
Then, from a flask he had with him, Samuel poured oil on Saul's
head; he also kissed him, saying: "The LORD anoints you
commander over his heritage. You are to govern the LORD'S people
Israel, and to save them from the grasp of their enemies round
about. This will be the sign for you that the LORD has anointed
you commander over his heritage: When you leave me today, you will
meet two men near Rachel's tomb at Zelzah in the territory of
Benjamin, who will say to you, 'The asses you went to look for
have been found. Your father is no longer worried about the asses,
but is anxious about you and says, What shall I do about my
son?'" [1SAM 10:1-2]
But his mother began to weep. She said to Tobit: "Why have
you decided to send my child away? Is he not the staff to which we
cling, ever there with us in all that we do? I hope more money is
not your chief concern! Rather let it be a ransom for our son!
What the Lord has given us to live on is certainly enough for
us." Tobit reassured her: "Have no such thought. Our son
will leave in good health and come back to us in good health. Your
own eyes will see the day when he returns to you safe and sound.
So, no such thought; do not worry about them, my love. For a good
angel will go with him, his journey will be successful, and he
will return unharmed." Then she stopped weeping. [TOBIT 5:18-22,
6:1]
"Beg the Lord of heaven to show you mercy and grant you
deliverance. But do not be afraid, for she was set apart for you
before the world existed. You will save her, and she will go with
you. And I suppose that you will have children by her, who will
take the place of brothers for you. So do not worry." When
Tobiah heard Raphael say that she was his kinswoman, of his own
family's lineage, he fell deeply in love with her, and his heart
became set on her. [Taken from TOBIT 6:18]
Meanwhile, day by day, Tobit was keeping track of the time
Tobiah would need to go and to return. When the number of days was
reached and his son did not appear, he said, "I wonder what
has happened. Perhaps he has been detained there; or perhaps
Gabael is dead, and there is no one to give him the money."
And he began to worry. His wife Anna said, "My son has
perished and is no longer among the living!" And she began to
weep aloud and to wail over her son: "Alas, my child, light
of my eyes, that I let you make this journey!" But Tobit kept
telling her: "Hush, do not think about it, my love; he is
safe! Probably they have to take care of some unexpected business
there. The man who is traveling with him is trustworthy, and is
one of our own kinsmen. So do not worry over him, my love. He will
be here soon." [TOBIT 10:1-6]
"We understand that the Jews do not agree with our
father's policy concerning Greek customs but prefer their own way
of life. They are petitioning us to let them retain their own
customs. Since we desire that this people too should be
undisturbed, our decision is that their temple be restored to them
and that they live in keeping with the customs of their ancestors.
Accordingly, please send them messengers to give them our
assurances of friendship, so that, when they learn of our
decision, they may have nothing to worry about but may contentedly
go about their own business." [2MACC 11:24-26]
Do not give in to sadness, torment not yourself with brooding;
Gladness of heart is the very life of man, cheerfulness prolongs
his days. Distract yourself, renew your courage, drive resentment
far away from you; For worry has brought death to many, nor is
there aught to be gained from resentment. Envy and anger shorten
one's life, worry brings on premature old age. [SIRACH 30:21-24]
A daughter is a treasure that keeps her father wakeful, and
worry over her drives away rest: Lest she pass her prime
unmarried, or when she is married, lest she be disliked; While
unmarried, lest she be seduced, or, as a wife, lest she prove
unfaithful; Lest she conceive in her father's home, or be sterile
in that of her husband. [SIRACH 42:9-10]
Hamath and Arpad are covered with shame, they have heard bad
news; Worried, they toss like the sea which cannot rest. [JER
49:23]
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what
you will eat (or drink), or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look
at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather
nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not
you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a
single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about
clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not
work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his
splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass
of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven
tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little
faith? So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?' or 'What are
we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear?' All these things the
pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, and all
these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about
tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day
is its own evil." [MT 6:25-34]
But beware of people, for they will hand you over to courts and
scourge you in their synagogues, and you will be led before
governors and kings for my sake as a witness before them and the
pagans. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to
speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment
what you are to say. For it will not be you who speak but the
Spirit of your Father speaking through you. [MT 10:17-20]
"Watch out for yourselves. They will hand you over to the
courts. You will be beaten in synagogues. You will be arraigned
before governors and kings because of me, as a witness before
them. But the gospel must first be preached to all nations. When
they lead you away and hand you over, do not worry beforehand
about what you are to say. But say whatever will be given to you
at that hour. For it will not be you who are speaking but the Holy
Spirit. Brother will hand over brother to death, and the father
his child; children will rise up against parents and have them put
to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. But the one
who perseveres to the end will be saved." [MK 13:9-13]
As they continued their journey he entered a village where a
woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named
Mary (who) sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,
"Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself
to do the serving? Tell her to help me." The Lord said to her
in reply, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about
many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the
better part and it will not be taken from her." [LK 10:38-42]
"When they take you before synagogues and before rulers
and authorities, do not worry about how or what your defense will
be or about what you are to say. For the Holy Spirit will teach
you at that moment what you should say." [LK 12:11-12]
He said to (his) disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not
worry about your life and what you will eat, or about your body
and what you will wear. For life is more than food and the body
more than clothing. Notice the ravens: they do not sow or reap;
they have neither storehouse nor barn, yet God feeds them. How
much more important are you than birds! Can any of you by worrying
add a moment to your lifespan? If even the smallest things are
beyond your control, why are you anxious about the rest? Notice
how the flowers grow. They do not toil or spin. But I tell you,
not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of them.
If God so clothes the grass in the field that grows today and is
thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for
you, O you of little faith? As for you, do not seek what you are
to eat and what you are to drink, and do not worry anymore. All
the nations of the world seek for these things, and your Father
knows that you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom, and these
other things will be given you besides. Do not be afraid any
longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the
kingdom. Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags
for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in
heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy. For where your
treasure is, there also will your heart be." [LK 12:22-34]
So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may
exalt you in due time. Cast all your worries upon him because he
cares for you. [1PT 5:6-7]

BIG Book of Latin Activities For Catholics
Beginning - Intermediate (Vol. 1)
"Suitable For Children Or
Adults!" ~ "Perfect For Home Schoolers!"
+ + +
As many faithful Catholics already know,
the majestic
Latin language – the 'official language' of the Catholic Church –
promotes unity, helps safeguard the purity of doctrine, connects us with
our Catholic ancestors, allows us to pray in "one voice", and even ties
back to the inscription on the Cross which was written in Hebrew, Latin,
and Greek. The Latin language is still used today in the precious
treasure that is the
Traditional Latin ('Tridentine') Mass, in 'everyday speech' (much of
English is derived from Latin), in mottos, in specialized fields, and in
educational endeavors. It has been shown that the study of Latin brings
many benefits. "And, Latin is truly the language of heaven!"
If you enjoy Latin, you may be glad to know that
this full-sized (8.5" x 11"), tradition-minded publication features an
assortment of activity types related to Latin (including: word searches,
crosswords, coloring activities, challenges, fill-ins, spelling bee,
quizzes, unscrambles, true/false, multiple choice, matching, cross-offs,
circling, word associations, translation exercises, and more...), and
treats of various topics (including: common Latin words, Latin language
facts, Latin grammar, nouns & verbs, abbreviations,
phrases / sayings / mottos, prefixes, cardinal numbers, grammatical gender,
inflection, word roots, diacritics / accenting, pronunciation, Latin
prayers / hymns, Scripture verses, Catholic phrases, and more...).
