"Yet I know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go unless he is forced.
I will stretch out my hand, therefore, and smite Egypt by doing all kinds of wondrous deeds there. After that he will send you away."
[EX 3:19-20]
"Here, then," said the LORD, "is the covenant I
will make. Before the eyes of all your people I will work such
marvels as have never been wrought in any nation anywhere on
earth, so that this people among whom you live may see how
awe-inspiring are the deeds which I, the LORD, will do at your
side." [EX 34:10]
'O Lord GOD, you have begun to show to your servant your
greatness and might. For what god in heaven or on earth can
perform deeds as mighty as yours?' [DEUT 3:24]
"Love the LORD, your God, therefore, and always heed his charge: his statutes, decrees and commandments.
It is not your children, who have not known it from experience, but you yourselves who must now understand the discipline of the LORD, your God; his majesty, his strong hand and outstretched arm;
the signs and deeds he wrought among the Egyptians, on Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and on all his
land... With your own eyes you have seen all these great deeds that the LORD has done."
[Taken from DEUT 11:1-3,7]
When you give to him, give freely and not with ill will; for
the LORD, your God, will bless you for this in all your works and
undertakings. [DEUT 15:10]
"For I know that after my death you are sure to become corrupt
and to turn aside from the way along which I directed you, so that
evil will befall you in some future age because you have done evil
in the LORD'S sight, and provoked him by your deeds." [DEUT
31:29]
For I will sing the LORD'S renown. Oh, proclaim the greatness of our God!
The Rock - how faultless are his deeds, how right all his ways! A
faithful God, without deceit, how just and upright he is! Yet basely has he been treated by his degenerate children, a perverse and crooked race!
[DEUT 32:3-5]
Sing of them to the strains of the harpers at the wells, where
men recount the just deeds of the LORD, his just deeds that
brought freedom to Israel. [JUDG 5:11]
Then Manoah... offered it
on the rock to the LORD, whose works are mysteries. [Taken from
JUDG 13:19]
"Speak boastfully no longer, nor let arrogance issue from
your mouths. For an all-knowing God is the LORD, a God who judges
deeds." [1SAM 2:3]
"The report I heard in my country about your deeds and
your wisdom is true," she told the king. [1KGS 10:6]
The rest of the acts of Solomon, with all his deeds and his
wisdom, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of Solomon.
[1KGS 11:41]
Give thanks to the LORD, invoke his name; make known among the
nations his deeds. Sing to him, sing his praise, proclaim all his wondrous deeds.
[1CHRON 16:8-9]
Look to the LORD in his strength; seek to serve him constantly.
Recall the wondrous deeds that he has wrought, his portents, and the judgments he has
uttered [Taken from 1CHRON 16:11-12]
Sing to the LORD, all the earth, announce his salvation, day after day
Tell his glory among the nations; among all peoples, his wondrous deeds.
[1CHRON 16:23-24]
Because he had humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned
from him so that it did not destroy him completely; and in Judah,
moreover, good deeds were found. [2CHRON 12:12]
I said: "My God, I am too ashamed and confounded to raise
my face to you, O my God, for our wicked deeds are heaped up above
our heads and our guilt reaches up to heaven." [EZRA 9:6]
"After all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and
our great guilt-though you, our God, have made less of our
sinfulness than it deserved and have allowed us to survive as we
do" [Taken from EZRA 9:13]
I, Tobit, have walked all the days of my life on the paths of
truth and righteousness. I performed many charitable works for my
kinsmen and my people who had been deported with me to Nineveh, in
Assyria. [TOBIT 1:3]
"You are righteous, O Lord, and all your deeds are just;
All your ways are mercy and truth; you are the judge of the world."
[TOBIT 3:2]
At that time, then, she spread out her hands, and facing the
window, poured out this prayer: "Blessed are you, O Lord,
merciful God! Forever blessed and honored is your holy name; may
all your works forever bless you." [TOBIT 3:11]
"Through all your days, my son, keep the Lord in mind, and
suppress every desire to sin or to break his commandments. Perform
good works all the days of your life, and do not tread the paths
of wrongdoing. For if you are steadfast in your service, your good
works will bring success, not only to you, but also to all those
who live uprightly." [TOBIT 4:5-6]
A king's secret it is prudent to keep, but the works of God are
to be declared and made known. Praise them with due honor. Do
good, and evil will not find its way to you. [TOBIT 12:7]
When Raphael ascended they rose to their feet and could no longer see him.
They kept thanking God and singing his praises; and they
continued to acknowledge these marvelous deeds which he had done
when the angel of God appeared to them. [TOBIT 12:21-22]
O Jerusalem, holy city, he scourged you for the works of your
hands, but will again pity the children of the righteous. [TOBIT
13:9]
"As soon as I, your handmaid, learned all this, I fled
from them. God has sent me to perform with you such deeds that
people throughout the world will be astonished on hearing of them."
[JDTH 11:16]
"Remember the deeds that our fathers did in their times,
and you shall win great glory and an everlasting name." [1MACC
2:51]
Hearken to this, O Job! Stand and consider the wondrous works
of God! [JOB 37:14]
Know that the LORD works wonders for the faithful; the LORD
hears when I call out. [PS 4:4]
What are humans that you are mindful of them, mere mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them little less than a god, crowned them with glory and honor.
You have given them rule over the works of your hands, put all
things at their feet [Taken from PS 8:5-7]
I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will declare
all your wondrous deeds. [PS 9:2]
Sing hymns to the LORD enthroned on Zion; proclaim God's
deeds among the nations! [PS 9:12]
The LORD is revealed in this divine rule: by the deeds they do
the wicked are trapped. [Taken from PS 9:17]
The LORD is just and loves just deeds; the upright shall see
his face. [PS 11:7]
Lifting my voice in thanks, recounting all your wondrous deeds.
[PS 26:7]
Repay them for their deeds, for the evil that they do. For the
work of their hands repay them; give them what they deserve. They pay no heed to the LORD'S works, to the deeds of God's
hands. God will tear them down, never to be rebuilt. [PS 28:4-5]
For the LORD'S word is true; all his works are trustworthy. [PS
33:4]
The one who fashioned the hearts of them all knows all their
works. [PS 33:15]
How numerous, O LORD, my God, you have made your wondrous
deeds! And in your plans for us there is none to equal you. Should
I wish to declare or tell them, too many are they to recount. [PS
40:6]
O God, we have heard with our own ears; our ancestors have
told us The deeds you did in their days, with your own hand in
days of old: You rooted out nations to plant them, crushed peoples to make room for them. Not with their own swords did they conquer the land, nor did their own arms bring victory;
It was your right hand, your own arm, the light of your face for you favored them. [PS
44:2-4]
Gird your sword upon your hip, mighty warrior! In splendor and majesty ride on triumphant!
In the cause of truth and justice may your right hand show you
wondrous deeds. [PS 45:4-5]
Come and see the works of the LORD, who has done fearsome
deeds on earth; Who stops wars to the ends of the earth, breaks the bow, splinters the spear, and burns the shields with fire; Who says: "Be still and confess that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth." [PS
46:9-11]
Fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." Their
deeds are loathsome and corrupt; not one does what is right. [PS
53:2]
One thing God has said; two things I have heard: Power belongs to God;
so too, Lord, does kindness, And you render to each of us
according to our deeds. [PS 62:12-13]
To you we owe our hymn of praise, O God on Zion; To you our vows must be fulfilled, you who hear our prayers.
To you all flesh must come with its burden of wicked deeds. We are overcome by our sins; only you can pardon them. Happy the chosen ones you bring to dwell in your courts.
May we be filled with the good things of your house, the blessings of your holy temple! You answer us with awesome deeds of justice, O God our
savior, The hope of all the ends of the earth and of far distant
islands. [PS 65:2-6]
Say to God: "How awesome your deeds! Before your great
strength your enemies cringe. All on earth fall in worship before you; they sing of you, sing of your name!" Come and see the works of God, awesome in the deeds done for
us. [Taken from PS 66:3-5]
My mouth shall proclaim your just deeds, day after day your
acts of deliverance, though I cannot number them all. I will speak of the mighty works of the Lord; O GOD, I will tell of your singular justice.
God, you have taught me from my youth; to this day I proclaim your wondrous deeds. [PS
71:15-17]
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who alone does
wonderful deeds. [PS 72:18]
As for me, to be near God is my good, to make the Lord GOD my
refuge. I shall declare all your works in the gates of daughter
Zion. [PS 73:28]
We thank you, God, we give thanks; we call upon your name,
declare your wonderful deeds. [Taken from PS 75:2]
I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, your wonders of
old I will remember. I will recite all your works; your exploits I will tell. [PS
77:12-13]
We do not keep them from our children; we recite them to the
next generation, The praiseworthy and mighty deeds of the LORD,
the wonders that he performed. God set up a decree in Jacob, established a law in Israel:
What he commanded our ancestors, they were to teach their children; That the next generation might come to know, children yet to be born.
In turn they were to recite them to their children, that they too might put their trust in God,
And not forget the works of God, keeping his commandments. They were not to be like their ancestors, a rebellious and defiant generation,
A generation whose heart was not constant, whose spirit was not faithful to God, Like the ranks of Ephraimite archers, who retreated on the day of battle. They did not keep God's covenant; they refused to walk by his law. They forgot his works, the wondrous deeds he had shown them.
[PS 78:4-11]
For you are great and do wondrous deeds; and you alone are God.
[PS 86:10]
Show your deeds to your servants, your glory to their children.
[PS 90:16]
For you make me jubilant, LORD, by your deeds; at the works of
your hands I shout for joy. How great are your works, LORD! How
profound your purpose! A senseless person cannot know this; a fool cannot comprehend.
[PS 92:5-7]
There your ancestors tested me; they tried me though they had
seen my works. Forty years I loathed that generation; I said: "This people's heart goes astray; they do not know my ways." Therefore I swore in my anger: "They shall never enter my rest."
[PS 95:9-11]
Tell God's glory among the nations; among all peoples, God's
marvelous deeds. [PS 96:3]
Sing a new song to the LORD, who has done marvelous
deeds, Whose right hand and holy arm have won the victory. [PS
98:1]
The LORD does righteous deeds, brings justice to all the oppressed. His ways were revealed to Moses, mighty deeds to the people of Israel. Merciful and gracious is the LORD, slow to anger, abounding in kindness. God does not always rebuke, nurses no lasting anger, Has not dealt with us as our sins merit, nor requited us as our deeds deserve. [PS
103:6-10]
How varied are your works, LORD! In wisdom you have wrought
them all; the earth is full of your creatures...May the glory of
the LORD endure forever; may the LORD be glad in these works! [PS
104:24,31]
Sing praise, play music; proclaim all his wondrous deeds! [PS
105:2]
Who can tell the mighty deeds of the LORD, proclaim in full
God's praise? [PS 106:2]
Happy those who do what is right, whose deeds are always just.
[PS 106:3]
Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds
for mere mortals. [PS 107:8]
Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals. Let them offer a sacrifice in thanks, declare his works with shouts of joy.
[PS 107:21-22]
Some went off to sea in ships, plied their trade on the deep waters.
They saw the works of the LORD, the wonders of God in the deep.
[PS 107:23-24]
Whoever is wise will take note of these things, will ponder the
merciful deeds of the LORD. [PS 107:43]
Great are the works of the LORD, to be treasured for all their delights. Majestic and glorious is your work, your wise design endures forever. You won renown for your wondrous deeds; gracious and merciful is the LORD. You gave food to those who fear you, mindful of your covenant forever. You showed powerful deeds to your people, giving them the lands of the nations. The works of your hands are right and true, reliable all your decrees, Established forever and ever, to be observed with loyalty and care.
[PS 111:2-8]
I disclosed my ways and you answered me; teach me your laws. Make me understand the way of your precepts; I will ponder your
wondrous deeds. [PS 119:26-27]
I remember the days of old; I ponder all your deeds; the works of your hands I recall. I stretch out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land. Hasten to answer me, LORD; for my spirit fails me.
Do not hide your face from me, lest I become like those descending to the pit. At dawn let me hear of your kindness, for in you I trust.
Show me the path I should walk, for to you I entrust my life. Rescue me, LORD, from my foes, for in you I hope.
[Taken from PS 143:5-9]
All your works give you thanks, O LORD and your faithful bless
you. They speak of the glory of your reign and tell of your great
works [Taken from PS 145:10-11]
You, LORD, are just in all your ways, faithful in all your
works. You, LORD, are near to all who call upon you, to all who call upon you in truth.
[PS 145:17-18]
Entrust your works to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.
[PROV 16:3]
If you say, "I know not this man!" does not he who
tests hearts perceive it? He who guards your life knows it, and he
will repay each one according to his deeds. [PROV 24:12]
Say not, "As he did to me, so will I do to him; I will
repay the man according to his deeds." [PROV 24:29]
Give her a reward of her labors, and let her works praise her
at the city gates. [PROV 31:31]
I thought of beguiling my senses with wine, though my mind was concerned with wisdom, and of taking up folly, until I should understand what is best for men to do under the heavens during the limited days of their life. I undertook great works; I built myself houses and planted vineyards; I made gardens and parks, and set out in them fruit trees of all sorts. And I constructed for myself reservoirs to water a flourishing woodland.
I amassed for myself silver and gold, and the wealth of kings and provinces. I got for myself male and female singers and all human luxuries. I became great, and I stored up more than all others before me in Jerusalem; my wisdom, too, stayed with me. Nothing that my eyes desired did I deny them, nor did I deprive myself of any joy, but my heart rejoiced in the fruit of all my toil. This was my share for all my toil. But when I turned to all the works that my hands had wrought, and to the toil at which I had taken such pains, behold! all was vanity and a chase after wind, with nothing gained under the sun. For what will the man do who is to come after the king? What men have already done! I went on to the consideration of wisdom, madness and folly. And I saw that wisdom has the advantage over folly as much as light has the advantage over darkness.
[ECCL 2:13-6,8-13]
When you make a vow to God, delay not its fulfillment. For God has no pleasure in fools; fulfill what you have vowed. You had better not make a vow than make it and not fulfill it.
Let not your utterances make you guilty, and say not before his
representative, "It was a mistake," lest God be angered
by such words and destroy the works of your hands. [ECCL 5:3-5]
Go, eat your bread with joy and drink your wine with a merry
heart, because it is now that God favors your works. [ECCL 9:7]
Court not death by your erring way of life, nor draw to
yourselves destruction by the works of your hands. [WISDOM 1:12]
For he who despises wisdom and instruction is doomed. Vain is
their hope, fruitless are their labors, and worthless are their
works. [WISDOM 3:11]
Fearful shall they come, at the counting up of their sins, and
their lawless deeds shall convict them to their face. [WISDOM
4:20]
Hear, therefore, kings, and understand; learn, you magistrates of the earth's expanse! Hearken, you who are in power over the multitude and lord it over throngs of peoples! Because authority was given you by the LORD and sovereignty by the Most High, who shall probe your works and scrutinize your counsels!
[WISDOM 6:1-3]
For [wisdom] is instructress in the understanding of God, the
selector of his works. [Taken from WISDOM 8:4]
Or if one loves justice, the fruits of her works are virtues;
For she teaches moderation and prudence, justice and fortitude,
and nothing in life is more useful for men than these. [WISDOM
8:7]
Send [wisdom] her forth from your holy heavens and from your glorious throne dispatch her
That she may be with me and work with me, that I may know what is your pleasure. For
[wisdom] knows and understands all things, and will guide me discreetly in my affairs and safeguard me by her glory; Thus my deeds will be acceptable, and I shall judge your people justly and be worthy of my father's throne.
[Taken from WISDOM 9:12]
For truly, the ancient inhabitants of your holy land, whom you hated for deeds most
odious - Works of witchcraft and
impious sacrifices... [Taken from WISDOM 12:3-4]
And you taught your people, by these deeds, that those who are
just must be kind; And you gave your sons good ground for hope
that you would permit repentance for their sins. [WISDOM 12:19]
For all men were by nature foolish who were in ignorance of God, and who from the good things seen did not succeed in knowing him who is, and from studying the works did not discern the artisan; But either fire, or wind, or the swift air, or the circuit of the stars, or the mighty water, or the luminaries of heaven, the governors of the world, they considered gods. Now if out of joy in their beauty they thought them gods, let them know how far more excellent is the Lord than these; for the original source of beauty fashioned them. Or if they were struck by their might and energy, let them from these things realize how much more powerful is he who made them. For from the greatness and the beauty of created things their original author, by analogy, is seen. But yet, for these the blame is less;
For they indeed have gone astray perhaps, though they seek God and wish to find him. For they search busily among his works, but are distracted by what they see, because the things seen are fair.
[WISDOM 13:1-7]
Equally odious to God are the evildoer and his evil deed; and the thing made shall be punished with its contriver. Therefore upon even the idols of the nations shall a visitation come, since they have become abominable amid God's works,
Snares for the souls of men and a trap for the feet of the senseless.
[WISDOM 14:9-11]
He has poured [wisdom] forth upon all his works, upon every
living thing according to his bounty; he has lavished [wisdom]
upon his friends. [Taken from SIRACH 1:8]
Be not surly in your speech, nor lazy and slack in your deeds.
[SIRACH 4:29]
Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For
strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds. The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown. The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.
[SIRACH 11:4-6]
For it is easy with the LORD on the day of death to repay man
according to his deeds. [SIRACH 11:26]
All man's works will perish in decay, and his handiwork will
follow after him. [SIRACH 14:19]
Great as his mercy is his punishment; he judges men, each
according to his deeds. [SIRACH 16:12]
Whoever does good has his reward, which each receives according
to his deeds. [SIRACH 16:14]
Say not: "I am hidden from God; in heaven who remembers me? Among so many people I cannot be known; what am I in the world of spirits? If I sin, no eye will see me; if all in secret I am disloyal, who is to know? Who tells him of just deeds and what could I expect for doing my duty?" Such are the thoughts of senseless men, which only the foolish knave will think.
[SIRACH 16:15,19-21]
When at the first God created his works and, as he made them, assigned their tasks, He ordered for all time what they were to do and their domains from generation to generation.
They were not to hunger, nor grow weary, nor ever cease from their tasks. Not one should ever crowd its neighbor, nor should they ever disobey his word. Then the LORD looked upon the earth, and filled it with his blessings. Its surface he covered with all manner of life which must return into it again.
[SIRACH 16:24-28]
He looks with favor upon their hearts, and shows them his glorious works, That they may describe the wonders of his deeds and praise his holy name.
[SIRACH 17:7-8]
The Eternal is the judge of all things without exception; the LORD alone is just. Whom has he made equal to describing his works, and who can probe his mighty deeds? Who can measure his majestic power, or exhaust the tale of his mercies? One cannot lessen, nor increase, nor penetrate the wonders of the LORD.
[SIRACH 18:1-4]
As evil contrasts with good, and death with life, so are sinners in contrast with the just; See now all the works of the Most High: they come in pairs, the one the opposite of the other.
[SIRACH 33:14-15]
To keep the law is a great oblation, and he who observes the commandments sacrifices a peace offering. In works of charity one offers fine flour, and when he gives alms he presents his sacrifice of praise. To refrain from evil pleases the LORD, and to avoid injustice is an atonement.
[SIRACH 35:1-3]
God indeed will not delay, and like a warrior, will not be still Till he breaks the backs of the merciless and wreaks vengeance upon the proud; Till he destroys the haughty root and branch, and smashes the scepter of the wicked; Till he requites mankind according to its deeds, and repays men according to their thoughts; Till he defends the cause of his people, and gladdens them by his mercy.
[SIRACH 35:19-23]
He endows men with the knowledge to glory in his mighty works,
Through which the doctor eases pain and the druggist prepares his medicines; Thus God's creative work continues without cease in its efficacy on the surface of the earth.
[SIRACH 38:6-8]
The works of God are all of them good; in its own time every
need is supplied. [SIRACH 39:16]
The works of all mankind are present to him; not a thing
escapes his eye. [SIRACH 39:19]
The works of God are all of them good; every need when it comes
he fills. [SIRACH 39:33]
Now will I recall God's works; what I have seen, I will
describe. At God's word were his works brought into being; they do
his will as he has ordained for them. As the rising sun is clear
to all, so the glory of the LORD fills all his works [Taken from
SIRACH 42:15-16]
How beautiful are all his works! even to the spark and the
fleeting vision! The universe lives and abides forever; to meet each need, each creature is preserved. All of them differ, one from another, yet none of them has he made in vain,
For each in turn, as it comes, is good; can one ever see enough of their splendor?
[SIRACH 42:23-25]
Let us praise him the more, since we cannot fathom him, for
greater is he than all his works; Awful indeed is the LORD'S majesty, and wonderful is his power.
[SIRACH 43:29-30]
For who can see him and describe him? Or who can praise him as he is?
Beyond these, many things lie hid; only a few of his works have we seen. It is the LORD who has made all things, and to those who fear him he gives wisdom.
[SIRACH 43:33-35]
O Elijah, enveloped in the whirlwind! Then Elisha, filled with a twofold portion of his spirit, wrought many marvels by his mere word.
During his lifetime he feared no one, nor was any man able to intimidate his will.
Nothing was beyond his power; beneath him flesh was brought back into life.
In life he performed wonders, and after death, marvelous deeds.
[SIRACH 48:12-14]
Their land is full of idols; they worship the works of their hands, that which their fingers have made. But man is
abased... The haughty eyes of man will be lowered, the arrogance of men will be abased, and the LORD alone will be exalted, on that day.
[Taken from ISA 2:8-9,11]
Happy the just, for it will be well with them, the fruit of
their works they will eat. [ISA 3:10]
Their webs cannot serve as clothing, nor can they cover
themselves with their works. Their works are evil works, and deeds
of violence come from their hands. [ISA 59:6]
I, the LORD, alone probe the mind and test the heart, To reward
everyone according to his ways, according to the merit of his
deeds. [JER 17:10]
Therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, against the
shepherds who shepherd my people: You have scattered my sheep and
driven them away. You have not cared for them, but I will take
care to punish your evil deeds. [JER 23:2]
Ah, Lord GOD, you have made heaven and earth by your great might, with your outstretched arm; nothing is impossible to you.
You continue your kindness through a thousand generations; and you repay the fathers' guilt, even into the lap of their sons who follow them. O God, great and mighty, whose name is LORD of hosts,
great in counsel, mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of men, giving to each according to his ways, according to the fruit of his
deeds [Taken from JER 32:19]
The LORD could no longer bear your evil deeds, the horrible
things which you were doing; and so your land became a waste, a
desert, a thing accursed and without inhabitants, as it is today.
[JER 44:22]
