Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This
man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel,
and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by
the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen
the Messiah of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple;
and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the
custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and
blessed God, saying: "Now, Master, you may let your servant
go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen
your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a
light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your
people Israel." The child's father and mother were amazed at
what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary
his mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and
rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted
(and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of
many hearts may be revealed." [LK 2:25-35]
Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and
was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, to be
tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when
they were over he was hungry. The devil said to him, "If you
are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."
Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'One does not live by
bread alone.'" Then he took him up and showed him all the
kingdoms of the world in a single instant. The devil said to him,
"I shall give to you all this power and their glory; for it
has been handed over to me, and I may give it to whomever I wish.
All this will be yours, if you worship me." Jesus said to him
in reply, "It is written: 'You shall worship the Lord,
your God, and him alone shall you serve.'" [LK 4:1-8]
Soon afterward he journeyed to a city called Nain, and his
disciples and a large crowd accompanied him. As he drew near to
the gate of the city, a man who had died was being carried out,
the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. A large crowd
from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, he was moved
with pity for her and said to her, "Do not weep." He
stepped forward and touched the coffin; at this the bearers
halted, and he said, "Young man, I tell you, arise!" The
dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his
mother. Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, exclaiming,
"A great prophet has arisen in our midst," and "God
has visited his people." This report about him spread through
the whole of Judea and in all the surrounding region. [LK 7:11-17]
Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, the Son of Man will
be ashamed of when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the
Father and of the holy angels. [LK 9:26]
About eight days after he said this, he took Peter, John, and
James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his
face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white.
And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to
accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been
overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory
and the two men standing with him. As they were about to part from
him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are
here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one
for Elijah." But he did not know what he was saying. While he
was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and
they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the
cloud came a voice that said, "This is my chosen Son; listen
to him." After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone.
They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they
had seen. [LK 9:28-36]
He was teaching in a synagogue on the sabbath. And a woman was
there who for eighteen years had been crippled by a spirit; she
was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect. When Jesus
saw her, he called to her and said, "Woman, you are set free
of your infirmity." He laid his hands on her, and she at once
stood up straight and glorified God. [LK 13:10-13]
As he continued his journey to Jerusalem, he traveled through
Samaria and Galilee. As he was entering a village, ten lepers met
(him). They stood at a distance from him and raised their voice,
saying, "Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!" And when he
saw them, he said, "Go show yourselves to the priests."
As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing
he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and
he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan.
Jesus said in reply, "Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where
are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give
thanks to God?" Then he said to him, "Stand up and go;
your faith has saved you." [LK 17:11-19]
Then Jesus stopped and ordered that he be brought to him; and
when he came near, Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to
do for you?" He replied, "Lord, please let me see."
Jesus told him, "Have sight; your faith has saved you."
He immediately received his sight and followed him, giving glory
to God. When they saw this, all the people gave praise to God. [LK 18:40-43]
So they brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks over the colt,
and helped Jesus to mount. As he rode along, the people were
spreading their cloaks on the road; and now as he was approaching
the slope of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of his
disciples began to praise God aloud with joy for all the mighty
deeds they had seen. They proclaimed: "Blessed is the
king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory
in the highest." Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to
him, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples." He said in reply,
"I tell you, if they keep silent, the stones will cry
out!" [LK 19:35-40]
"There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves.
People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens
will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory."
[LK 21:25-27]
It was now about noon and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon
because of an eclipse of the sun. Then the veil of the temple was torn down the middle.
Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit"; and when he had said this he breathed his last.
The centurion who witnessed what had happened glorified God and said, "This man was innocent
beyond doubt." [LK 23:44-47]
"Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they
were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body;
they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of
angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of those with us
went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described,
but him they did not see." And he said to them, "Oh, how
foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the
prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should
suffer these things and enter into his glory?" [LK 24:22-26]
And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and
we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of
grace and truth. [JN 1:14]
On the third day there was a wedding in Can a in Galilee, and
the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also
invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of
Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." (And) Jesus said
to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has
not yet come." His mother said to the servers, "Do
whatever he tells you." Now there were six stone water jars
there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to
thirty gallons. Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with
water." So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them,
"Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter." So
they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had
become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the
servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the
bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves good wine first,
and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you
have kept the good wine until now." Jesus did this as the
beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his
glory, and his disciples began to believe in him. [JN 2:1-11]
When the feast was already half over, Jesus went up into the
temple area and began to teach. The Jews were amazed and said,
"How does he know scripture without having studied?"
Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not my own but
is from the one who sent me. Whoever chooses to do his will shall
know whether my teaching is from God or whether I speak on my own.
Whoever speaks on his own seeks his own glory, but whoever seeks
the glory of the one who sent him is truthful, and there is no
wrong in him." [JN 7:14-18]
On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and exclaimed, "Let anyone who thirsts come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as scripture says: 'Rivers of living water
will flow from within him.'" He said this in reference to the Spirit that those who came to believe in him were to receive. There was, of course, no Spirit yet,
because Jesus had not yet been glorified. [JN 7:37-39]
The Jews answered and said to him, "Are we not right in
saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed?" Jesus
answered, "I am not possessed; I honor my Father, but you
dishonor me. I do not seek my own glory; there is one who seeks it
and he is the one who judges. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever
keeps my word will never see death." (So) the Jews said to
him, "Now we are sure that you are possessed. Abraham died,
as did the prophets, yet you say, 'Whoever keeps my word will
never taste death.' Are you greater than our father Abraham, who
died? Or the prophets, who died? Who do you make yourself out to
be?" Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is
worth nothing; but it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you
say, 'He is our God.' You do not know him, but I know him. And if
I should say that I do not know him, I would be like you a liar.
But I do know him and I keep his word. Abraham your father
rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was glad." So the Jews said
to him, "You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen
Abraham?" Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you,
before Abraham came to be, I AM." So they picked up stones to
throw at him; but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area. [JN 8:48-59]
When Jesus heard this he said, "This illness is not to end
in death, but is for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be
glorified through it." [JN 11:4]
So Jesus, perturbed again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and
a stone lay across it. Jesus said, "Take away the
stone." Martha, the dead man's sister, said to him,
"Lord, by now there will be a stench; he has been dead for
four days." Jesus said to her, "Did I not tell you that
if you believe you will see the glory of God?" So they took
away the stone. And Jesus raised his eyes and said, "Father,
I thank you for hearing me. I know that you always hear me; but
because of the crowd here I have said this, that they may believe
that you sent me." And when he had said this, he cried out in
a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came
out, tied hand and foot with burial bands, and his face was
wrapped in a cloth. So Jesus said to them, "Untie him and let
him go." [JN 11:38-44]
On the next day, when the great crowd that had come to the
feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took palm
branches and went out to meet him, and cried
out: "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name
of the Lord, (even) the king of Israel." Jesus found an
ass and sat upon it, as is written: "Fear no more, O daughter
Zion; see, your king comes, seated upon an ass's colt." His
disciples did not understand this at first, but when Jesus had
been glorified they remembered that these things were written
about him and that they had done this for him. [JN 12:12-16]
Now there were some Greeks among those who had come up to
worship at the feast. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida
in Galilee, and asked him, "Sir, we would like to see
Jesus." Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip
went and told Jesus. Jesus answered them, "The hour has come
for the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen, amen, I say to you,
unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains
just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in
this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me
must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The
Father will honor whoever serves me. I am troubled now. Yet
what should I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? But it was
for this purpose that I came to this hour. Father, glorify your
name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified
it and will glorify it again." The crowd there heard it and
said it was thunder; but others said, "An angel has spoken to
him." Jesus answered and said, "This voice did not come
for my sake but for yours. Now is the time of judgment on this
world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And when I
am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself."
He said this indicating the kind of death he would die. So the
crowd answered him, "We have heard from the law that the
Messiah remains forever. Then how can you say that the Son of Man
must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?" Jesus said to
them, "The light will be among you only a little while. Walk
while you have the light, so that darkness may not overcome you.
Whoever walks in the dark does not know where he is going. While
you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become
children of the light." After he had said this, Jesus left
and hid from them. Although he had performed so many signs in
their presence they did not believe in him, in order that the word
which Isaiah the prophet spoke might be
fulfilled: "Lord, who has believed our
preaching, to whom has the might of the Lord been
revealed?" For this reason they could not believe, because
again Isaiah said: "He blinded their eyes and hardened
their heart, so that they might not see with their
eyes and understand with their heart and be
converted, and I would heal them." Isaiah said this
because he saw his glory and spoke about him. Nevertheless, many,
even among the authorities, believed in him, but because of the
Pharisees they did not acknowledge it openly in order not to be
expelled from the synagogue. For they preferred human praise to
the glory of God. [JN 12:20-43]
When he had left, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man
glorified, and God is glorified in him. (If God is glorified in
him,) God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify
him at once. My children, I will be with you only a little while
longer. You will look for me, and as I told the Jews, 'Where I go
you cannot come,' so now I say it to you. I give you a new
commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also
should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my
disciples, if you have love for one another." [JN 13:31-35]
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or
else, believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I say
to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and
will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may
be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I
will do it. [JN 14:11-14]
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He
takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and
everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit. You are
already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you. Remain in
me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its
own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you
remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains
in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you
can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown
out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw
them into a fire and they will be burned. If you remain in me and
my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be
done for you. By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much
fruit and become my disciples. As the Father loves me, so I also
love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will
remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments
and remain in his love." [JN 15:1-10]
"I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all
truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he
hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will
glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it
to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I
told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to
you." [JN 16:12-15]
When Jesus had said this, he raised his eyes to heaven and
said, "Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so
that your son may glorify you, just as you gave him authority over
all people, so that he may give eternal life to all you gave him.
Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true
God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ. I glorified you on
earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. Now
glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you
before the world began. I revealed your name to those whom
you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave
them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that
everything you gave me is from you, because the words you gave to
me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly
understood that I came from you, and they have believed that you
sent me. I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for the
ones you have given me, because they are yours, and everything of
mine is yours and everything of yours is mine, and I have been
glorified in them. And now I will no longer be in the world, but
they are in the world, while I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep
them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one
just as we are... Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that
where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory
that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of
the world. Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but
I know you, and they know that you sent me. I made known to them
your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you
loved me may be in them and I in them." [Taken from JN 17:1-11,24-26]
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter,
"Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He
said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He
said to him, "Feed my lambs." He then said to him a
second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He
said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He
said to him, "Tend my sheep." He said to him the third
time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was
distressed that he had said to him a third time, "Do you love
me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you
know that I love you." (Jesus) said to him, "Feed my
sheep. Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you used
to dress yourself and go where you wanted; but when you grow old,
you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you
and lead you where you do not want to go." He said this
signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he
had said this, he said to him, "Follow me." [JN 21:15-19]
The God of Abraham, (the God) of Isaac, and (the God) of Jacob,
the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant Jesus whom you
handed over and denied in Pilate's presence, when he had decided
to release him. [ACTS 3:13]
When they heard this, they were infuriated, and they ground
their teeth at him. But he, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked up
intently to heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at
the right hand of God, and he said, "Behold, I see the
heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of
God." But they cried out in a loud voice, covered their ears,
and rushed upon him together. They threw him out of the city, and
began to stone him. The witnesses laid down their cloaks at the
feet of a young man named Saul. As they were stoning Stephen, he
called out, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Then he
fell to his knees and cried out in a loud voice, "Lord, do
not hold this sin against them"; and when he said this, he
fell asleep. [ACTS 7:54-60]
"As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them as it had
upon us at the beginning, and I remembered the word of the Lord,
how he had said, 'John baptized with water but you will be
baptized with the Holy Spirit.' If then God gave them the same
gift he gave to us when we came to believe in the Lord Jesus
Christ, who was I to be able to hinder God?" When they heard
this, they stopped objecting and glorified God, saying, "God
has then granted life-giving repentance to the Gentiles too."
[ACTS 11:15-18]
On the following sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear
the word of the Lord. When the Jews saw the crowds, they were
filled with jealousy and with violent abuse contradicted what Paul
said. Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It
was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first, but
since you reject it and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal
life, we now turn to the Gentiles. For so the Lord has commanded
us, 'I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an
instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.'" The
Gentiles were delighted when they heard this and glorified the
word of the Lord. All who were destined for eternal life came to
believe, and the word of the Lord continued to spread through the
whole region. [ACTS 13:44-49]
The wrath of God is indeed being revealed from heaven against
every impiety and wickedness of those who suppress the truth by
their wickedness. For what can be known about God is evident to
them, because God made it evident to them. Ever since the creation
of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and
divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he
has made. As a result, they have no excuse; for although they knew
God they did not accord him glory as God or give him thanks.
Instead, they became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless
minds were darkened. While claiming to be wise, they became fools
and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for the likeness of an
image of mortal man or of birds or of four-legged animals or of
snakes. Therefore, God handed them over to impurity through the
lusts of their hearts for the mutual degradation of their bodies.
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and revered and
worshiped the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed
forever. Amen. [ROM 1:18-25]
By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up
wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just
judgment of God, who will repay everyone according to his works:
eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality
through perseverance in good works, but wrath and fury to those
who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness. Yes,
affliction and distress will come upon every human being who does
evil, Jew first and then Greek. But there will be glory, honor,
and peace for everyone who does good, Jew first and then Greek.
There is no partiality with God. [ROM 2:5-11]
What advantage is there then in being a Jew? Or what is the
value of circumcision? Much, in every respect. (For) in the first
place, they were entrusted with the utterances of God. What if
some were unfaithful? Will their infidelity nullify the fidelity
of God? Of course not! God must be true, though every
human being is a liar, as it is written: "That you
may be justified in your words, and conquer when you are
judged." But if our wickedness provides proof of God's
righteousness, what can we say? Is God unjust, humanly speaking,
to inflict his wrath? Of course not! For how else is God to judge
the world? But if God's truth redounds to his glory through my
falsehood, why am I still being condemned as a sinner? And why not
say - as we are accused and as some claim we say - that we should do
evil that good may come of it? Their penalty is what they deserve.
[ROM 3:1-8]
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from
the law, though testified to by the law and the prophets, the
righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who
believe. For there is no distinction; all have sinned and are
deprived of the glory of God. They are justified freely by his
grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth
as an expiation, through faith, by his blood, to prove his
righteousness because of the forgiveness of sins previously
committed, through the forbearance of God - to prove his
righteousness in the present time, that he might be righteous and
justify the one who has faith in Jesus. [ROM 3:21-26]
He believed, hoping against hope, that he would become
"the father of many nations," according to what was
said, "Thus shall your descendants be." He did not
weaken in faith when he considered his own body as (already) dead
(for he was almost a hundred years old) and the dead womb of
Sarah. He did not doubt God's promise in unbelief; rather, he was
empowered by faith and gave glory to God and was fully convinced
that what he had promised he was also able to do. That is why
"it was credited to him as righteousness." [ROM
4:18-22]
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access (by faith) to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God.
[ROM 5:1-2]
How can we who died to sin yet live in it? Or are you unaware
that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his
death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death,
so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of
the Father, we too might live in newness of life. For if we have
grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also
be united with him in the resurrection. We know that our old self
was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be done away
with, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin. [ROM 6:2-6]
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into
fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry,
"Abba, Father!" The Spirit itself bears witness with our
spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs,
heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with
him so that we may also be glorified with him. I consider that the
sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the
glory to be revealed for us. For creation awaits with eager
expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation
was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of
the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be
set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious
freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation is
groaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that, but we
ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan
within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our
bodies. [ROM
8:14-23]
We know that all things work for good for those who love God,
who are called according to his purpose. For those he foreknew he
also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that
he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he
predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified;
and those he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say
to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? [ROM 8:28-31]
I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie; my conscience joins
with the Holy Spirit in bearing me witness that I have great
sorrow and constant anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I
myself were accursed and separated from Christ for the sake of my
brothers, my kin according to the flesh. They are Israelites;
theirs the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the
law, the worship, and the promises; theirs the patriarchs, and
from them, according to the flesh, is the Messiah. God who is over
all be blessed forever. Amen. [ROM 9:1-5]
Consequently, he has mercy upon whom he wills, and he hardens
whom he wills. You will say to me then, "Why (then) does he
still find fault? For who can oppose his will?" But who
indeed are you, a human being, to talk back to God? Will what is
made say to its maker, "Why have you created me so?" Or
does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make out of the
same lump one vessel for a noble purpose and another for an
ignoble one? What if God, wishing to show his wrath and make known
his power, has endured with much patience the vessels of wrath
made for destruction? This was to make known the riches of his
glory to the vessels of mercy, which he has prepared previously
for glory, namely, us whom he has called, not only from the Jews
but also from the Gentiles.
[ROM 9:18-24]
Hence I ask, did they stumble so as to fall? Of course not! But
through their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, so
as to make them jealous. Now if their transgression is enrichment
for the world, and if their diminished number is enrichment for
the Gentiles, how much more their full number. Now I am speaking
to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am the apostle to the
Gentiles, I glory in my ministry in order to make my race jealous
and thus save some of them. [ROM 11:11-14]
For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him
be glory forever. Amen. [ROM 11:36]
May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think
in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus, that
with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome one another, then, as Christ
welcomed you, for the glory of God. For I say that Christ became a
minister of the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, to confirm
the promises to the patriarchs, but so that the Gentiles might
glorify God for his mercy. As it is
written: "Therefore, I will praise you among the
Gentiles and sing praises to your name." [ROM 15:5-9]
Yet we do speak a wisdom to those who are mature, but not a
wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age who are passing
away. Rather, we speak God's wisdom, mysterious, hidden, which God
predetermined before the ages for our glory, and which none of the
rulers of this age knew; for if they had known it, they would not
have crucified the Lord of glory.
[1COR 2:6-8]
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I
then take Christ's members and make them the members of a
prostitute? Of course not! (Or) do you not know that anyone who
joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For
"the two," it says, "will become one flesh."
But whoever is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
Avoid immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the
body, but the immoral person sins against his own body. Do you not
know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you,
whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you
have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your
body. [1COR 6:15-20]
So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything
for the glory of God. [1COR 10:31]
Any man who prays or prophesies with his head covered brings
shame upon his head. But any woman who prays or prophesies with
her head unveiled brings shame upon her head, for it is one and
the same thing as if she had had her head shaved. For if a woman
does not have her head veiled, she may as well have her hair cut
off. But if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or
her head shaved, then she should wear a veil. A man, on the other
hand, should not cover his head, because he is the image and glory
of God, but woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from
woman, but woman from man; nor was man created for woman, but
woman for man; for this reason a woman should have a sign of
authority on her head, because of the angels. Woman is not
independent of man or man of woman in the Lord. For just as woman
came from man, so man is born of woman; but all things are from
God. Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God
with her head unveiled? Does not nature itself teach you that if a
man wears his hair long it is a disgrace to him, whereas if a
woman has long hair it is her glory, because long hair has been
given (her) for a covering? But if anyone is inclined to be
argumentative, we do not have such a custom, nor do the churches
of God. [1COR 11:4-16]
You fool! What you sow is not brought to life unless it dies.
And what you sow is not the body that is to be but a bare kernel
of wheat, perhaps, or of some other kind; but God gives it a body
as he chooses, and to each of the seeds its own body. Not all
flesh is the same, but there is one kind for human beings, another
kind of flesh for animals, another kind of flesh for birds, and
another for fish. There are both heavenly bodies and earthly
bodies, but the brightness of the heavenly is one kind and that of
the earthly another. The brightness of the sun is one kind, the
brightness of the moon another, and the brightness of the stars
another. For star differs from star in brightness. So also is the
resurrection of the dead. It is sown corruptible; it is raised
incorruptible. It is sown dishonorable; it is raised glorious. It
is sown weak; it is raised powerful. It is sown a natural body; it
is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is
also a spiritual one. So, too, it is written, "The first man,
Adam, became a living being," the last Adam a life-giving
spirit. But the spiritual was not first; rather the natural and
then the spiritual. The first man was from the earth, earthly; the
second man, from heaven. As was the earthly one, so also are the
earthly, and as is the heavenly one, so also are the heavenly.
Just as we have borne the image of the earthly one, we shall also
bear the image of the heavenly one. [1COR 15:36-49]
For however many are the promises of God, their Yes is in him;
therefore, the Amen from us also goes through him to God for
glory. [2COR 1:20]
Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, was
so glorious that the Israelites could not look intently at the
face of Moses because of its glory that was going to fade, how
much more will the ministry of the Spirit be glorious? For if the
ministry of condemnation was glorious, the ministry of
righteousness will abound much more in glory. Indeed, what was
endowed with glory has come to have no glory in this respect
because of the glory that surpasses it. For if what was going to
fade was glorious, how much more will what endures be glorious.
Therefore, since we have such hope, we act very boldly and not
like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the Israelites
could not look intently at the cessation of what was fading.
Rather, their thoughts were rendered dull, for to this present day
the same veil remains unlifted when they read the old covenant,
because through Christ it is taken away. To this day, in fact,
whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts, but
whenever a person turns to the Lord the veil is removed. Now the
Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is
freedom. All of us, gazing with unveiled face on the glory of the
Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to
glory, as from the Lord who is the Spirit. [2COR 3:7-18]
And even though our gospel is veiled, it is veiled for those
who are perishing, in whose case the god of this age has blinded
the minds of the unbelievers, so that they may not see the light
of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For
we do not preach ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves
as your slaves for the sake of Jesus. For God who said, "Let
light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to
bring to light the knowledge of the glory of God on the face of
(Jesus) Christ. But we hold this treasure in earthen vessels, that
the surpassing power may be of God and not from us. [2COR 4:3-7]
Everything indeed is for you, so that the grace bestowed in
abundance on more and more people may cause the thanksgiving to
overflow for the glory of God. Therefore, we are not discouraged;
rather, although our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is
being renewed day by day. For this momentary light affliction is
producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
as we look not to what is seen but to what is unseen; for what is
seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal. [2COR
4:15-18]
We cause no one to stumble in anything, in order that no fault
may be found with our ministry; on the contrary, in everything we
commend ourselves as ministers of God, through much endurance, in
afflictions, hardships, constraints, beatings, imprisonments,
riots, labors, vigils, fasts; by purity, knowledge, patience,
kindness, in a holy spirit, in unfeigned love, in truthful speech,
in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness at the right
and at the left; through glory and dishonor, insult and praise. We
are treated as deceivers and yet are truthful; as unrecognized and
yet acknowledged; as dying and behold we live; as chastised and
yet not put to death; as sorrowful yet always rejoicing; as poor
yet enriching many [Taken from 2COR 6:3-10]
But thanks be to God who put the same concern for you into the
heart of Titus, for he not only welcomed our appeal but, since he
is very concerned, he has gone to you of his own accord. With him
we have sent the brother who is praised in all the churches for
his preaching of the gospel. And not only that, but he has also
been appointed our traveling companion by the churches in this
gracious work administered by us for the glory of the Lord
(himself) and for the expression of our eagerness. This we desire
to avoid, that anyone blame us about this lavish gift administered
by us, for we are concerned for what is honorable not only in the
sight of the Lord but also in the sight of others. And with them
we have sent our brother whom we often tested in many ways and
found earnest, but who is now much more earnest because of his
great confidence in you. As for Titus, he is my partner and
co-worker for you; as for our brothers, they are apostles of the
churches, the glory of Christ. So give proof before the churches
of your love and of our boasting about you to them. [2COR 8:16-24]
The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will
supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your
righteousness. You are being enriched in every way for all
generosity, which through us produces thanksgiving to God, for the
administration of this public service is not only supplying the
needs of the holy ones but is also overflowing in many acts of
thanksgiving to God. Through the evidence of this service, you are
glorifying God for your obedient confession of the gospel of
Christ and the generosity of your contribution to them and to all
others, while in prayer on your behalf they long for you, because
of the surpassing grace of God upon you. Thanks be to God for his
indescribable gift! [2COR 9:10-15]
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
who gave himself for our sins that he might rescue us from the present evil age in accord with the will of our God and Father,
to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. [Taken from GAL
1:3-5]
Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. And I was unknown
personally to the churches of Judea that are in Christ; they only kept hearing that "the one who once was persecuting us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy."
So they glorified God because of me. [GAL 1:21-24]
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens,
as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be
holy and without blemish before him. In love he destined us for
adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor
of his will, for the praise of the glory of his grace that he
granted us in the beloved.
[EPH 1:3-6]
In him we were also chosen, destined in accord with the purpose
of the one who accomplishes all things according to the intention
of his will, so that we might exist for the praise of his glory,
we who first hoped in Christ. In him you also, who have heard the
word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and have believed in
him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, which is the first
installment of our inheritance toward redemption as God's
possession, to the praise of his glory. Therefore, I, too, hearing
of your faith in the Lord Jesus and of your love for all the holy
ones, do not cease giving thanks for you, remembering you in my
prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in
knowledge of him. May the eyes of (your) hearts be enlightened,
that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what
are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones,
and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who
believe, in accord with the exercise of his great might, which he
worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at his
right hand in the heavens, far above every principality,
authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is named not
only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all
things beneath his feet and gave him as head over all things to
the church, which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills
all things in every way. [EPH 1:11-23]
So I ask you not to lose heart over my afflictions for you;
this is your glory. For this reason I kneel before the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that he
may grant you in accord with the riches of his glory to be
strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner self, and
that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you,
rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with
all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and
depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so
that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him
who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, by
the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in
Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. [EPH 3:13-21]
For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception,
to discern what is of value, so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God. [PHIL
1:8-11]
Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in
Christ Jesus, Who, though he was in the form of God, did not
regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he
emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in
human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled
himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a
cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed
on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of
Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth
and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. [PHIL 2:5-11]
Join with others in being imitators of me, brothers, and
observe those who thus conduct themselves according to the model
you have in us. For many, as I have often told you and now tell
you even in tears, conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of
Christ. Their end is destruction. Their God is their stomach;
their glory is in their "shame." Their minds are
occupied with earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven,
and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will
change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body by the
power that enables him also to bring all things into subjection to
himself. [PHIL 3:17-21]
My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his
glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father, glory
forever and ever. Amen. [PHIL 4:19-20]
Therefore, from the day we heard this, we do not cease praying
for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of
his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding to live in
a manner worthy of the Lord, so as to be fully pleasing, in every
good work bearing fruit and growing in the knowledge of God,
strengthened with every power, in accord with his glorious might,
for all endurance and patience, with joy giving thanks to the
Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the
holy ones in light. [COL 1:9-12]
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I
am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on
behalf of his body, which is the church, of which I am a minister
in accordance with God's stewardship given to me to bring to
completion for you the word of God, the mystery hidden from ages
and from generations past. But now it has been manifested to his
holy ones, to whom God chose to make known the riches of the glory
of this mystery among the Gentiles; it is Christ in you, the hope
for glory. [COL 1:24-27]
If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where
Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above,
not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is
hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you
too will appear with him in glory. [COL 3:1-4]
You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and justly and
blamelessly we behaved toward you believers. As you know, we
treated each one of you as a father treats his children, exhorting
and encouraging you and insisting that you conduct yourselves as
worthy of the God who calls you into his kingdom and glory. [1THES 2:10-12]
Brothers, when we were bereft of you for a short time, in
person, not in heart, we were all the more eager in our great
desire to see you in person. We decided to go to you - I, Paul, not
only once but more than once - yet Satan thwarted us. For what is
our hope or joy or crown to boast of in the presence of our Lord
Jesus at his coming if not you yourselves? For you are our glory
and joy. [1THES 2:17-20]
For it is surely just on God's part to repay with afflictions
those who are afflicting you, and to grant rest along with us to
you who are undergoing afflictions, at the revelation of the Lord
Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels, in blazing fire,
inflicting punishment on those who do not acknowledge God and on
those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay
the penalty of eternal ruin, separated from the presence of the
Lord and from the glory of his power, when he comes to be
glorified among his holy ones and to be marveled at on that day
among all who have believed, for our testimony to you was
believed. To this end, we always pray for you, that our God may
make you worthy of his calling and powerfully bring to fulfillment
every good purpose and every effort of faith, that the name of our
Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, in accord with
the grace of our God and Lord Jesus Christ. [2THES 1:6-12]
Therefore, God is sending them a deceiving power so that they
may believe the lie, that all who have not believed the truth but
have approved wrongdoing may be condemned. But we ought to give
thanks to God for you always, brothers loved by the Lord, because
God chose you as the firstfruits for salvation through
sanctification by the Spirit and belief in truth. To this end he
has (also) called you through our gospel to possess the glory of
our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold
fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral
statement or by a letter of ours. [2THES 2:11-15]
Finally, brothers, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may speed forward and be glorified, as it did among you,
and that we may be delivered from perverse and wicked people, for not all have faith.
[2THES 3:1-2]
We know that the law is good, provided that one uses it as law,
with the understanding that law is meant not for a righteous
person but for the lawless and unruly, the godless and sinful, the
unholy and profane, those who kill their fathers or mothers,
murderers, the unchaste, practicing homosexuals, kidnapers, liars,
perjurers, and whatever else is opposed to sound teaching,
according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I
have been entrusted. [1TM
1:8-11]
To the king of ages, incorruptible, invisible, the only God,
honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. [1TM 1:17]
Undeniably great is the mystery of devotion, Who was manifested
in the flesh, vindicated in the spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed
to the Gentiles, believed in throughout the world, taken up in
glory. [1TM 3:16]
Therefore, I bear with everything for the sake of those who are
chosen, so that they too may obtain the salvation that is in
Christ Jesus, together with eternal glory. [2TM 2:10]
The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring
me safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever.
Amen. [2TM 4:18]
For the grace of God has appeared, saving all and training us
to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live
temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age, as we await the
blessed hope, the appearance of the glory of the great God and of
our savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to deliver us
from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people as his
own, eager to do what is good. Say these things. Exhort and
correct with all authority. Let no one look down on you. [TI 2:11-15]
In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our
ancestors through the prophets; in these last days, he spoke to us
through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he
created the universe, who is the refulgence of his glory, the
very imprint of his being, and who sustains all things by his
mighty word. When he had accomplished purification from
sins, he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on
high, as far superior to the angels as the name he has
inherited is more excellent than theirs. [HEB 1:1-4]
For it was not to angels that he subjected the world to come,
of which we are speaking. Instead, someone has testified
somewhere: "What is man that you are mindful of
him, or the son of man that you care for him? You made him
for a little while lower than the angels; you crowned him
with glory and honor, subjecting all things under his
feet." In "subjecting" all things (to him), he
left nothing not "subject to him." Yet at present
we do not see "all things subject to him," but we
do see Jesus "crowned with glory and honor" because he
suffered death, he who "for a little while" was made
"lower than the angels," that by the grace of God he
might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting that he, for
whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children
to glory, should make the leader to their salvation perfect
through suffering. [HEB 2:5-10]
Therefore, holy "brothers," sharing in a heavenly calling, reflect on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our
confession, who was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as
Moses was "faithful in (all) his house." But he is
worthy of more "glory" than Moses, as the founder of a
house has more "honor" than the house itself. Every
house is founded by someone, but the founder of all is God. Moses
was "faithful in all his house" as a "servant"
to testify to what would be spoken, but Christ was faithful as a
son placed over his house. We are his house, if (only) we hold
fast to our confidence and pride in our hope. [HEB 3:1-6]
Every high priest is taken from among men and made their
representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he
himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make
sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No one takes
this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron
was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself
in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said
to him: "You are my son; this day I have
begotten you"; just as he says in another place: "You
are a priest forever according to the order of
Melchizedek."
[HEB 5:1-6]
Now (even) the first covenant had regulations for worship and
an earthly sanctuary. For a tabernacle was constructed, the outer
one, in which were the lampstand, the table, and the bread of
offering; this is called the Holy Place. Behind the second veil
was the tabernacle called the Holy of Holies, in which were the
gold altar of incense and the ark of the covenant entirely covered
with gold. In it were the gold jar containing the manna, the staff
of Aaron that had sprouted, and the tablets of the covenant. Above
it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the place of
expiation. Now is not the time to speak of these in detail. [HEB 9:1-5]
May the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant, Jesus our Lord,
furnish you with all that is good, that you may do his will. May he carry out in you what is pleasing to him through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever (and ever). Amen.
[HEB 13:20-21]
My brothers, show no partiality as you adhere to the faith in
our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. [JMS 2:1]
In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may
have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of
your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though
tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at
the revelation of Jesus Christ. Although you have not seen him you
love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him,
you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain
the goal of (your) faith, the salvation of your souls. Concerning
this salvation, prophets who prophesied about the grace that was
to be yours searched and investigated it, investigating the time
and circumstances that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated
when it testified in advance to the sufferings destined for Christ
and the glories to follow them. It was revealed to them that they
were serving not themselves but you with regard to the things that
have now been announced to you by those who preached the good news
to you (through) the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into
which angels longed to look. Therefore, gird up the loins of your
mind, live soberly, and set your hopes completely on the grace to
be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Like obedient
children, do not act in compliance with the desires of your former
ignorance but, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in
every aspect of your conduct, for it is written, "Be holy
because I (am) holy." [1PT 1:6-16]
He was known before the foundation of the world but revealed in
the final time for you, who through him believe in God who raised
him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope
are in God. Since you have purified yourselves by obedience to the
truth for sincere mutual love, love one another intensely from a
(pure) heart. You have been born anew, not from perishable but
from imperishable seed, through the living and abiding word of
God, for: "All flesh is like grass, and all its
glory like the flower of the field; the grass
withers, and the flower wilts; but the word of the Lord
remains forever." This is the word that has been proclaimed
to you. [1PT 1:20-25]
Beloved, I urge you as aliens and sojourners to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against the soul. Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that if they speak of you as evildoers, they may observe your good works and glorify God on the day of visitation.
[1PT 2:11-12]
As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace.
Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God; whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever.
Amen.
[1PT 4:10-11]
Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring
among you, as if something strange were happening to you. But
rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ,
so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice
exultantly. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed
are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. But
let no one among you be made to suffer as a murderer, a thief, an
evildoer, or as an intriguer. But whoever is made to suffer as a
Christian should not be ashamed but glorify God because of the
name. For it is time for the judgment to begin with the household
of God; if it begins with us, how will it end for those who fail
to obey the gospel of God? "And if the righteous one is
barely saved, where will the godless and the sinner
appear?" As a result, those who suffer in accord with God's
will hand their souls over to a faithful creator as they do good. [1PT 4:12-19]
So I exhort the presbyters among you, as a fellow presbyter and
witness to the sufferings of Christ and one who has a share in the
glory to be revealed. Tend the flock of God in your midst,
(overseeing) not by constraint but willingly, as God would have
it, not for shameful profit but eagerly. Do not lord it over those
assigned to you, but be examples to the flock. And when the chief
Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of
glory. [1PT 5:1-4]
Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling
around like a roaring lion looking for (someone) to devour. Resist
him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your fellow believers
throughout the world undergo the same sufferings. The God of all
grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ (Jesus)
will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after
you have suffered a little. To him be dominion forever. Amen. [1PT 5:8-11]
His divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for
life and devotion, through the knowledge of him who called us by
his own glory and power. Through these, he has bestowed on us the
precious and very great promises, so that through them you may
come to share in the divine nature, after escaping from the
corruption that is in the world because of evil desire. [2PT 1:3-4]
We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to
you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been
eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from
God the Father when that unique declaration came to him from the
majestic glory, "This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am
well pleased." We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven
while we were with him on the holy mountain. Moreover, we possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do
well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place,
until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Know
this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is
a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came
through human will; but rather human beings moved by the Holy Spirit
spoke under the influence of God. [2PT 1:16-21]
Therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned, be on your guard not to be led into the error of the unprincipled and to fall from your own stability.
But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory now and to the day of eternity. (Amen.)
[2PT 3:17-18]
Similarly, these dreamers nevertheless also defile the flesh,
scorn lordship, and revile glorious beings. [JUDE 1:8]
To the one who is able to keep you from stumbling and to
present you unblemished and exultant, in the presence of his
glory, to the only God, our savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord be
glory, majesty, power, and authority from ages past, now, and for
ages to come. Amen. [JUDE 1:24-25]
The four living creatures, each of them with six wings, were
covered with eyes inside and out. Day and night they do not
stop exclaiming: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God
almighty, who was, and who is, and who is to come."
Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to
the one who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the
twenty-four elders fall down before the one who sits on the throne
and worship him, who lives forever and ever. They throw down their
crowns before the throne, exclaiming: "Worthy are you, Lord
our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you
created all things; because of your will they came to be and
were created." [RV 4:8-11]
I looked again and heard the voices of many angels who
surrounded the throne and the living creatures and the elders.
They were countless in number, and they cried out in a loud
voice: "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to
receive power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and
glory and blessing." Then I heard every creature in heaven
and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, everything
in the universe, cry out: "To the one who sits on
the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor, glory and
might, forever and ever." The four living creatures
answered, "Amen," and the elders fell down and
worshiped. [RV 5:11-14]
After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one
could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They
stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes
and holding palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud
voice: "Salvation comes from our God, who is seated on
the throne, and from the Lamb." All the angels stood
around the throne and around the elders and the four living
creatures. They prostrated themselves before the throne, worshiped
God, and exclaimed: "Amen. Blessing and glory, wisdom
and thanksgiving, honor, power, and might be to our God
forever and ever. Amen." [RV 7:9-12]
The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and be glad
and exchange gifts because these two prophets tormented the
inhabitants of the earth. But after the three and a half days, a
breath of life from God entered them. When they stood on their
feet, great fear fell on those who saw them. Then they heard a
loud voice from heaven say to them, "Come up here." So
they went up to heaven in a cloud as their enemies looked on. At
that moment there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city
fell in ruins. Seven thousand people were killed during the
earthquake; the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of
heaven. [RV 11:10-13]
Then I saw another angel flying high overhead, with everlasting good
news to announce to those who dwell on earth, to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.
He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, for his time has come to sit in judgment. Worship him who made heaven and earth and sea and springs of water."
[RV 14:6-7]
Then I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire. On
the sea of glass were standing those who had won the victory over
the beast and its image and the number that signified its name.
They were holding God's harps, and they sang the song of Moses,
the servant of God, and the song of the
Lamb: "Great and wonderful are your works, Lord God
almighty. Just and true are your ways, O king of the
nations. Who will not fear you, Lord, or glorify your name?
For you alone are holy. All the nations will come and
worship before you, for your righteous acts have been
revealed." [RV 15:2-4]
After this I had another vision. The temple that is the
heavenly tent of testimony opened, and the seven angels with the
seven plagues came out of the temple. They were dressed in clean
white linen, with a gold sash around their chests. One of the four
living creatures gave the seven angels seven gold bowls filled
with the fury of God, who lives forever and ever. Then the temple
became so filled with the smoke from God's glory and might that no
one could enter it until the seven plagues of the seven angels had
been accomplished. [RV 15:5-8]
The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun. It was given the power to burn people with fire.
People were burned by the scorching heat and blasphemed the name of God who had power over these plagues, but they did not repent or give him glory.
[RV 16:8-9]
After this I heard what sounded like the loud voice of
a great multitude in heaven, saying: "Alleluia!
Salvation, glory, and might belong to our God, for true and just
are his judgments. He has condemned the great harlot who
corrupted the earth with her harlotry. He has avenged on her
the blood of his servants." [RV 19:1-2]
Then I heard something like the sound of a great multitude
or the sound of rushing water or mighty peals of thunder, as
they said: "Alleluia! The Lord has established his
reign, (our) God, the almighty. Let us rejoice and be
glad and give him glory. For the wedding day of the Lamb
has come, his bride has made herself ready." [RV 19:6-7]
I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God
almighty and the Lamb. The city had no need of sun or moon to
shine on it, for the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was
the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and to it the kings
of the earth will bring their treasure. During the day its gates
will never be shut, and there will be no night there. The treasure
and wealth of the nations will be brought there, but nothing
unclean will enter it, nor any (one) who does abominable things or
tells lies. Only those will enter whose names are written in the
Lamb's book of life. [RV 21:22-27]
