Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, bowed down before him, and kissed him. Having greeted each other, they went into the tent.
Moses then told his father-in-law of all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for the sake of Israel, and of all the hardships they had had to endure on their journey, and how the LORD had come to their rescue. Jethro rejoiced over all the goodness that the LORD had shown Israel in rescuing them from the hands of the Egyptians. [EX
18:7-9]

and you, Issachar, in your tents!" [DEUT 33:18]

Jerubbaal and his family this day, rejoice in Abimelech and may he
in turn rejoice in you. [Taken from JUDG 9:19]

God. I have swallowed up my enemies; I rejoice in my victory."

things." [2CHRON 6:41]

The priests sanctified themselves in great numbers, and the whole assembly of Judah rejoiced, together with the priests and Levites and the rest of the assembly that had come from Israel, as well as the sojourners from the land of Israel and those that lived in Judah.
There was great rejoicing in Jerusalem, for since the days of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel, there had not been the like in the city. Then the levitical priests rose and blessed the people; their voice was heard and their prayer reached heaven, God's holy dwelling.
[Taken from 2CHRON 30:24-27]
At that time men were appointed over the chambers set aside for stores, offerings, first fruits, and tithes; in them they were to collect from the fields of the various cities the portions legally assigned to the priests and Levites. For Judah rejoiced in its appointed priests and Levites who carried out the ministry of their God and the ministry of purification (as did the singers and the gatekeepers) in accordance with the prescriptions of David and of Solomon, his son.
[NEH 12:44-45]
Ahiqar and his nephew Nadab also came to rejoice with Tobit.

all be gathered together and shall bless the Lord of the ages. [TOBIT
13:13]

your prosperity. Happy are all the men who shall grieve over you,
over all your chastisements, For they shall rejoice in you as they
behold all your joy forever. [TOBIT 13:14]
All the nations of the world shall be converted and shall offer God true worship; all shall abandon their idols which have deceitfully led them into error,
and shall bless the God of the ages in righteousness. Because
all the Israelites who are to be saved in those days will truly be
mindful of God, they shall be gathered together and go to
Jerusalem; in security shall they dwell forever in the land of
Abraham, which will be given over to them. Those who sincerely
love God shall rejoice, but those who become guilty of sin shall
completely disappear from the land. [TOBIT 14:6-7]
But before he died, he heard of the destruction of Nineveh and
saw its effects. He witnessed the exile of the city's inhabitants
when Cyaxares, king of Media, led them captive into Media. Tobiah
praised God for all that he had done against the citizens of
Nineveh and Assyria. Before dying he rejoiced over Nineveh's
destruction, and he blessed the Lord God forever and ever. Amen. [TOBIT
14:15]
The people rejoiced greatly, and observed that day as a great
festival. [1MACC 7:48]
We, on our part, have never ceased to remember you in the sacrifices and prayers that we offer on our feasts and other appropriate days, as it is right and proper to remember brothers.
We likewise rejoice in your renown. But many hardships and wars have beset us, and the kings around us have attacked us. We did not wish to be troublesome to you and to the rest of our
allies and friends in these wars; with the help of Heaven for our support, we have been saved from our enemies, and they have been humbled. [1MACC
12:11-15]
Fighting with their hands and praying to God with their hearts,
they laid low at least thirty-five thousand, and rejoiced greatly
over this manifestation of God's power. [2MACC 15:27]
Why is light given to the toilers, and life to the bitter in spirit? They wait for death and it comes not; they search for it rather than for hidden treasures, Rejoice in it exultingly, and are glad when they reach the grave: Men whose path is hidden from them, and whom God has hemmed in! [JOB
3:20-23]
Restoring his gains, he shall not enjoy them; though his wealth
increases, he shall not rejoice. [JOB 20:18]
Had I put my trust in gold or called fine gold my security; Or had I rejoiced that my wealth was great, or that my hand had acquired
abundance - Had I looked upon the sun as it shone, or the moon in the splendor of its progress, And had my heart been secretly enticed to waft them a kiss with my hand; This too would be a crime for condemnation, for I should have denied God above. [JOB
31:24-28]
I will delight and rejoice in you; I will sing hymns to your
name, Most High. [PS 9:3]

his people! [PS 14:7]
I bless the LORD who counsels me; even at night my heart exhorts me. I keep the LORD always before me; with the Lord at my right, I shall never be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, my soul rejoices; my body also dwells secure, For you will not abandon me to Sheol, nor let your faithful servant see the pit. You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever.
[PS 16:7-11]
LORD, the king finds joy in your power; in your victory how greatly he rejoices! You have granted him his heart's desire; you did not refuse the prayer of his lips.

and found help. So my heart rejoices; with my song I praise my
God. [PS 28:7]
I praise you, LORD, for you raised me up and did not let my
enemies rejoice over me. [PS 30:2]
I will rejoice and be glad in your love, once you have seen my misery, observed my distress. You will not abandon me into enemy hands, but will set my feet in a free and open space.
[PS 31:8-9]

upright of heart. [PS 32:11]

fitting. [PS 33:1]
For in God our hearts rejoice; in your holy name we trust. [PS
33:21]
Without cause they set their snare for me; without cause they dug a pit for me. Let ruin overtake them unawares; let the snare they have set catch them; let them fall into the pit they have dug. Then I will rejoice in the LORD, exult in God's salvation.

their feet in the blood of the wicked. [PS 58:11]

shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be shut! [PS 63:12]
The just will rejoice and take refuge in the LORD; all the
upright will glory in their God. [PS 64:11]
Come and see the works of God, awesome in the deeds done for us.
He changed the sea to dry land; through the river they passed on foot.
Therefore let us rejoice in him, who rules by might forever, Whose eyes are fixed upon the nations. Let no rebel rise to challenge!
[Taken from PS 66:5-7]
God will arise for battle; the enemy will be scattered; those who hate God will flee. The wind will disperse them like smoke; as wax is melted by fire, so the wicked will perish before God. Then the just will be glad; they will rejoice before God; they will celebrate with great joy.
[PS 68:2-4]
Sing to God, praise the divine name; exalt the rider of the
clouds. Rejoice before this God whose name is the LORD. [PS 68:5]
Graciously rescue me, God! Come quickly to help me, LORD! Confound and put to shame those who seek my life.
Turn back in disgrace those who desire my ruin. Let those who say "Aha!" turn back in their shame. But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you.
May those who long for your help always say, "God be glorified!" [PS
70:2-5]
For judgment comes not from east or from west, not from the desert or from the mountains, But from God who decides, who brings some low and raises others high. Yes, a cup is in the LORD'S hand, foaming wine, fully spiced.
When God pours it out, they will drain it even to the dregs; all the wicked of the earth must drink. But I will rejoice forever; I will sing praise to the God of
Jacob [PS 75:7-10]
Please give us life again, that your people may rejoice in you.

[PS 106:3-5]
They rose up to the heavens, sank to the depths; their hearts trembled at the danger. They reeled, staggered like drunkards; their skill was of no avail. In their distress they cried to the LORD, who brought them out of their peril, Hushed the storm to a murmur; the waves of the sea were stilled. They rejoiced that the sea grew calm, that God brought them to the harbor they longed for. Let them thank the LORD for such kindness, such wondrous deeds for mere mortals.
[PS 107:26-31]

mouth. [PS 107:42]

word. [PS 119:74]

"Let us go to the house of the LORD." [PS 122:1]

in their king. [PS 149:2]

their banquet [Taken from PS 149:5]

perish, there is jubilation. [PROV 11:10]
My son, if your heart be wise, my own heart also will rejoice; And my inmost being will exult, when your lips speak what is right. Let not your heart emulate sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the
LORD always; For you will surely have a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
[PROV 23:15-18]
Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and when he stumbles, let not your heart exult, Lest the LORD see it, be displeased with you, and withdraw his wrath from your enemy.

rule, the people groan. [PROV 29:2]

myself of any joy, but my heart rejoiced in the fruit of all my
toil. This was my share for all my toil. [ECCL 2:10]
Rejoice, O young man, while you are young and let your heart be
glad in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart, the
vision of your eyes; Yet understand that as regards all this God
will bring you to judgment. [ECCL 11:9]
Court not death by your erring way of life, nor draw to yourselves destruction by the works of your hands. Because God did not make death, nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living. For he fashioned all things that they might have being; and the creatures of the world are wholesome,
And there is not a destructive drug among them nor any domain of the nether world on
earth, For justice is undying. [WISDOM 1:12-15]
Therefore I prayed, and prudence was given me; I pleaded and the spirit of Wisdom came to me. I preferred her to scepter and throne,
And deemed riches nothing in comparison with her, nor did I liken any priceless gem to her;
Because all gold, in view of her, is a little sand, and before her, silver is to be accounted mire. Beyond health and comeliness I loved her,
And I chose to have her rather than the light, because the splendor of her never yields to sleep. Yet all good things together came to me in her company, and countless riches at her hands; And I rejoiced in them all, because Wisdom is their leader, though I had not known that she is the mother of these.
[WISDOM 7:7-12]
Rejoice not when a man dies; remember, we are all to die. [SIRACH
8:7]
Rejoice not at a proud man's success; remember he will not
reach death unpunished. [SIRACH 9:12]
Desire not a brood of worthless children, nor rejoice in wicked
offspring. [SIRACH 16:1]
Who will apply the lash to my thoughts, to my mind the rod of discipline,
That my failings may not be spared, nor the sins of my heart overlooked; Lest my failings increase, and my sins be multiplied;
Lest I succumb to my foes, and my enemy rejoice over me? [SIRACH
23:2-3]
Mockery and abuse will be the lot of the proud, and vengeance lies in wait for them like a lion. The trap seizes those who rejoice in pitfalls, and pain will consume them before they die; Wrath and anger are hateful things, yet the sinner hugs them tight.
[SIRACH 27:28-30]
Let your spirits rejoice in the mercy of God, and be not
ashamed to give him praise. [SIRACH 51:29]
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone. You have brought them abundant joy and great rejoicing,
As they rejoice before you as at the harvest, as men make merry when dividing
spoils. For the yoke that burdened them, the pole on their shoulder,
And the rod of their taskmaster you have smashed, as on the day of Midian.
[ISA 9:1-3]
On this mountain he will destroy the veil that veils all peoples,
The web that is woven over all nations; he will destroy death forever.
The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces; The reproach of his people he will remove from the whole earth; for the LORD has
spoken. On that day it will be said: "Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us! This is the LORD for whom we looked; let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!"
[ISA 25:7-9]
The lowly will ever find joy in the LORD, and the poor rejoice
in the Holy One of Israel. [ISA 29:19]
The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom. They will bloom with abundant flowers, and rejoice with joyful song.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to them, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
They will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees that are weak, Say to those whose hearts are
frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comes with vindication;
With divine recompense he comes to save you. Then will the eyes of the blind be opened, the ears of the deaf be
cleared [Taken from ISA 35:1-5]
Sing out, O heavens, and rejoice, O earth, break forth into
song, you mountains. For the LORD comforts his people and shows
mercy to his afflicted. [ISA 49:13]
I rejoice heartily in the LORD, in my God is the joy of my
soul; For he has clothed me with a robe of salvation, and wrapped
me in a mantle of justice, Like a bridegroom adorned with a
diadem, like a bride bedecked with her jewels. [ISA 61:10]
As a young man marries a virgin, your Builder shall marry you;
And as a bridegroom rejoices in his bride so shall your God
rejoice in you. [ISA 62:5]
Lo, I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; The things of the past shall not be remembered or come to mind. Instead, there shall always be rejoicing and happiness in what I create;
For I create Jerusalem to be a joy and its people to be a delight; I will rejoice in Jerusalem and exult in my people.
No longer shall the sound of weeping be heard there, or the sound of crying; No longer shall there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not round out his full lifetime;
He dies a mere youth who reaches but a hundred years, and he who fails of a hundred shall be thought accursed.
[ISA 65:17-20]
As a mother comforts her son, so will I comfort you; in Jerusalem you shall find your comfort. When you see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bodies flourish like the grass;
The LORD'S power shall be known to his servants, but to his enemies, his wrath.
[ISA 66:13-14]
"Look, O LORD, upon my distress: all within me is in ferment, My heart recoils within me from my monstrous rebellion.
In the streets the sword bereaves, at home death stalks. Give heed to my groaning; there is no one to console me.
All my enemies rejoice at my misfortune: it is you who have wrought it.
Bring on the day you have proclaimed, that they may be even as I."
[LAM 1:20-21]
He who established the earth for all time, and filled it with four-footed beasts; He who dismisses the light, and it departs, calls it, and it obeys him trembling; Before whom the stars at their posts shine and rejoice; When he calls them, they answer, "Here we are!" shining with joy for their Maker. Such is our God; no other is to be compared to
him [Taken from BARUCH 3:32-36]
Fear not, Jerusalem! He who gave you your name is your encouragement. Fearful are those who harmed you, who rejoiced at your downfall; Fearful are the cities where your children were enslaved, fearful the city that took your sons. As that city rejoiced at your collapse, and made merry at your downfall, so shall she grieve over her own desolation. I will take from her the joyous throngs, and her exultation shall be turned to mourning: For fire shall come upon her from the Eternal God, for a long time, and demons shall dwell in her from that time on. Look to the east, Jerusalem! behold the joy that comes to you from God.
[BARUCH 4:30-36]
Do I indeed derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked?
says the Lord GOD. Do I not rather rejoice when he turns from his
evil way that he may live? [EZEK 18:23]
Thus says the Lord GOD: Just as you rejoiced over my land
because it was desolate, so will I do to you. [EZEK 35:14]
Rejoice not, O Israel, exult not like the nations! For you have
been unfaithful to your God, loving a harlot's hire upon every
threshing floor. [HOSEA 9:1]
Fear not, O land! exult and rejoice! for the LORD has done
great things. [JOEL 2:21]
And do you, O children of Zion, exult and rejoice in the LORD,
your God! He has given you the teacher of justice: he has made the
rain come down for you, the early and the late rain as before.
[JOEL 2:23]
Rejoice not over me, O my enemy! though I have fallen, I will
arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD is my light. [MICAH 7:8]
Yet will I rejoice in the LORD and exult in my saving God. [HAB
3:18]
On that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not, O Zion, be not discouraged! The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a mighty savior;
He will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in his love,
He will sing joyfully because of you, as one sings at festivals. I will remove disaster from among you, so that none may recount your disgrace.
[ZEPH 3:16-18]
Sing and rejoice, O daughter Zion! See, I am coming to dwell
among you, says the LORD. [ZECH 2:14]
This word of the LORD then came to me: The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands shall finish it; then you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you. For even they who were scornful on that day of small beginnings shall rejoice to see the select stone in the hands of Zerubbabel. These seven facets are the eyes of the LORD that range over the whole earth. [ZECH
4:8-10]
Rejoice heartily, O daughter Zion, shout for joy, O daughter
Jerusalem! See, your king shall come to you; a just savior is he,
Meek, and riding on an ass, on a colt, the foal of an ass. [ZECH
9:9]
I will strengthen the house of Judah, the house of Joseph I will save;
I will bring them back, because I have mercy on them, they shall be as though I had never cast them off, for I am the LORD, their God,
and I will hear them. Then Ephraim shall be valiant men, and their hearts shall be cheered as by wine.
Their children shall see it and be glad, their hearts shall rejoice in the LORD.
[ZECH 10:6-7]
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
[MT 5:11-12]
What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.
[MT 18:12-14]
Zechariah was troubled by what he saw, and fear came upon him. But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid,
Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of (the) Lord. He will drink neither wine nor strong drink.
He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb, and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God."
[LK 1:12-16]
And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the
Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon
his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call
me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy
is his name." [LK 1:46-49]
When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.
[LK 1:57-58]
Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.
[LK 6:22-23]
The seventy (-two) returned rejoicing, and said, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name." Jesus said, "I have observed Satan fall like lightning
from the sky. Behold, I have given you the power 'to tread upon serpents' and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you.
Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven."
[LK 10:17-20]
At that very moment he rejoiced (in) the Holy Spirit and said, "I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."
[LK 10:21-22]
He was teaching in a synagogue on the sabbath. And a woman was
there who for eighteen years had been crippled by a spirit; she
was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect. When Jesus
saw her, he called to her and said, "Woman, you are set free
of your infirmity." He laid his hands on her, and she at once
stood up straight and glorified God. But the leader of the
synagogue, indignant that Jesus had cured on the sabbath, said to
the crowd in reply, "There are six days when work should be
done. Come on those days to be cured, not on the sabbath
day." The Lord said to him in reply, "Hypocrites! Does
not each one of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his ass from
the manger and lead it out for watering? This daughter of Abraham,
whom Satan has bound for eighteen years now, ought she not to have
been set free on the sabbath day from this bondage?" When he
said this, all his adversaries were humiliated; and the whole
crowd rejoiced at all the splendid deeds done by him. [LK 13:10-17]
"What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one
of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after
the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets
it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he
calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them,
'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you,
in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one
sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have
no need of repentance. Or what woman having ten coins and losing
one would not light a lamp and sweep the house, searching
carefully until she finds it? And when she does find it, she calls
together her friends and neighbors and says to them, 'Rejoice with
me because I have found the coin that I lost.' In just the same
way, I tell you, there will be rejoicing among the angels of God
over one sinner who repents." [LK 15:4-10]
Then he said, "A man had two sons, and the younger son
said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of your estate that
should come to me.' So the father divided the property between
them. After a few days, the younger son collected all his
belongings and set off to a distant country where he squandered
his inheritance on a life of dissipation. When he had freely spent
everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he found
himself in dire need. Coming to his senses he thought, 'How many
of my father's hired workers have more than enough food to eat,
but here am I, dying from hunger. I shall get up and go to my
father and I shall say to him, "Father, I have sinned against
heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son;
treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers."' So
he got up and went back to his father. While he was still a long
way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with
compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him. His
son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against
you; I no longer deserve to be called your son. But his father
ordered his servants, 'Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on
him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet...Then let
us celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead, and
has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found.' Then the
celebration began. Now the older son had been out in the field
and, on his way back, as he neared the house, he heard the sound
of music and dancing. He became angry, and when he refused to
enter the house, his father came out and pleaded with him. He said
to him, 'My son, you are here with me always; everything I have is
yours. But now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother
was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been
found.'" [Taken from LK 15:11-14, 17-25, 28, 31-32]
John answered and said, "No one can receive anything except what has been given him from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said (that) I am not the Messiah, but that I was sent before him.
The one who has the bride is the bridegroom; the best man, who stands and listens for him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine has been made complete.
He must increase; I must decrease." [JN 3:27-30]
Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work. Do you not say, 'In four months
the harvest will be here'? I tell you, look up and see the fields ripe for the harvest. The reaper is already
receiving his payment and gathering crops for eternal life, so that the sower and reaper can rejoice
together. For here the saying is verified that 'One sows and another reaps.' I sent you to reap what you have not worked for; others have done the work, and you are sharing the fruits of their work."
[JN 4:34-38]
[Jesus said,] "If I testify on my own behalf, my testimony
cannot be verified. But there is another who testifies on my
behalf, and I know that the testimony he gives on my behalf is
true. You sent emissaries to John, and he testified to the truth.
I do not accept testimony from a human being, but I say this so
that you may be saved. He was a burning and shining lamp, and for
a while you were content to rejoice in his light. But I have
testimony greater than John's. The works that the Father gave me
to accomplish, these works that I perform testify on my behalf
that the Father has sent me. Moreover, the Father who sent me has
testified on my behalf. But you have never heard his voice nor
seen his form, and you do not have his word remaining in you,
because you do not believe in the one whom he has sent." [Taken
from JN 5:31-38]
(So) the Jews said to him, "Now we are sure that you are
possessed. Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say,
'Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.' Are you greater
than our father Abraham, who died? Or the prophets, who died? Who
do you make yourself out to be?" Jesus answered, "If I
glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing; but it is my Father who
glorifies me, of whom you say, 'He is our God.' You do not know
him, but I know him. And if I should say that I do not know him, I
would be like you a liar. But I do know him and I keep his word.
Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was
glad." So the Jews said to him, "You are not yet fifty
years old and you have seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them,
"Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I
AM." [JN 8:52-58]
You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to
you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the
Father; for the Father is greater than I. [JN 14:28]
Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.
So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.
[JN 16:20-23]
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you."
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.
[JN 20:19-20]
The hand of the Lord was with them and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. The news about them reached the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas (to go) to Antioch. When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced and encouraged them all to remain faithful to the Lord in firmness of heart, for he was a good man, filled with the
Holy Spirit and faith. And a large number of people was added to the Lord.
[ACTS 11:21-24]
Then he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you and your household will be saved." So they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to everyone in his house. He took them in at that hour of the night and bathed their wounds; then he and all his family were baptized at once. He brought them up into his house and provided a meal and with his household rejoiced at having come to faith in God.
[ACTS 16:30-34]
Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.
[ROM 12:12]
Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. [ROM
12:15]
Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God. For I say that Christ became a minister of the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, to confirm the promises to the patriarchs,
but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written:
"Therefore, I will praise you among the Gentiles and sing praises to your name." And again it says: "Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his
people." And again: "Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him."
[ROM 15:7-11]
For while your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I want you to be wise as to what is good, and simple as to what is evil; then the God of peace will quickly crush Satan
under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. [ROM
16:19-20]
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.
[1COR 13:4-6]
I rejoice in the arrival of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus, because they made up for your absence, for they refreshed my spirit as well as yours. So give recognition to such people.
[1COR 16:17-18]
And I wrote as I did so that when I came I might not be pained by those in whom I should have rejoiced, confident about all of you that my joy is that of all of you. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not that you might be pained but that you might know the abundant love I have for you.
[2COR 2:3-4]
But God, who encourages the downcast, encouraged us by the
arrival of Titus, and not only by his arrival but also by the
encouragement with which he was encouraged in regard to you, as he
told us of your yearning, your lament, your zeal for me, so that I
rejoiced even more. For even if I saddened you by my letter, I do
not regret it; and if I did regret it ((for) I see that that
letter saddened you, if only for a while), I rejoice now, not
because you were saddened, but because you were saddened into
repentance; for you were saddened in a godly way, so that you did
not suffer loss in anything because of us. For godly sorrow
produces a salutary repentance without regret, but worldly sorrow
produces death. For behold what earnestness this godly sorrow has
produced for you, as well as readiness for a defense, and
indignation, and fear, and yearning, and zeal, and punishment. In
every way you have shown yourselves to be innocent in the matter.
So then even though I wrote to you, it was not on account of the
one who did the wrong, or on account of the one who suffered the
wrong, but in order that your concern for us might be made plain
to you in the sight of God. For this reason we are encouraged. And
besides our encouragement, we rejoice even more because of the joy
of Titus, since his spirit has been refreshed by all of you. [2COR
7:6-13]
I rejoice, because I have confidence in you in every respect.
[2COR 7:16]
For we rejoice when we are weak but you are strong. What we
pray for is your improvement. [2COR 13:9]
Finally, brothers, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one
another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of
love and peace will be with you. [2COR 13:11]
For it is written: "Rejoice, you barren one who bore no
children; break forth and shout, you who were not in labor; for
more numerous are the children of the deserted one than of her who
has a husband." [GAL 4:27]
Of course, some preach Christ from envy and rivalry, others from good will. The latter act out of love, aware that I am here for the defense of the gospel; the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not from pure motives, thinking that they will cause me trouble in my imprisonment. What difference does it make, as long as in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is being proclaimed? And in that I rejoice.
Indeed I shall continue to rejoice, for I know that this will result in deliverance for
me through your prayers and support from the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
[PHIL 1:15-19]
But, even if I am poured out as a libation upon the sacrificial
service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with all of you.
In the same way you also should rejoice and share your joy with
me. [PHIL 2:17-18]
With regard to Epaphroditus, my brother and co-worker and fellow soldier, your messenger and minister in my need, I consider it necessary to send him to you. For he has been longing for all of you and was distressed because you heard that he was ill. He was indeed ill, close to death; but God had mercy on him, not just on him but also on me, so that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow. I send him therefore with the greater eagerness, so that, on seeing him, you may rejoice again, and I may have less anxiety. Welcome him then in the Lord with all joy and hold such people in esteem, because for the sake of the work of Christ he came close to death, risking his life to make up for those services to me that you could not perform.
[PHIL 2:25-30]
Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. Writing the same
things to you is no burden for me but is a safeguard for you.
[PHIL 3:1]
Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice!
[PHIL 4:4]
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is
lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church, of which I am a minister in accordance with God's stewardship given to me to bring to completion for you the word of God, the mystery hidden from ages and from
generations past. But now it has been manifested to his holy ones,
to whom God chose to make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; it is Christ in you, the hope for glory.
[COL 1:24-27]
Rejoice always. [1THES 5:16]
In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of (your) faith, the salvation of your souls.
[1PT 1:6-9]
Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as if something strange were happening to you. But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
[1PT 4:12-14]
I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the
truth just as we were commanded by the Father. [2JN 1:4]
I rejoiced greatly when some of the brothers came and testified to how truly you walk in the truth. Nothing gives me greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
[3JN 1:3-4]
Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled
against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but
they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in
heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the
Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to
earth, and its angels were thrown down with it. Then I heard a
loud voice in heaven say: "Now have salvation and power come,
and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed. For
the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before
our God day and night. They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter
them from death. Therefore, rejoice, you heavens, and you who
dwell in them. But woe to you, earth and sea, for the Devil has
come down to you in great fury, for he knows he has but a short
time." [RV 12:7-12]
They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and
mourning: "Alas, alas, great city, in which all who had ships at sea grew rich from her wealth.
In one hour she has been ruined. Rejoice over her, heaven, you holy ones, apostles, and prophets.
For God has judged your case against her." [RV 18:19-20]
A voice coming from the throne said: "Praise our God, all you his servants, (and) you who revere him, small and great." Then I heard something like the sound of a great
multitude or the sound of rushing water or mighty peals of thunder, as they said: "Alleluia!
The Lord has established his reign, (our) God, the almighty. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory.
For the wedding day of the Lamb has come, his bride has made herself ready."
