Q.
Are all ads on this site Catholic?
A.
No, commercial sections are not restricted to Catholics. (Why?) However,
there are some restrictions on non-Catholics (e.g. non-Catholics should
not sell religious products, advertise non-Catholic
"churches", etc.). We may also restrict participation in
commercial sections by non-Catholics at our sole option. Further, note
that it is not possible for us to limit ads on this site to Catholics.
Not only is it impossible for us to verify the Catholicity of all
advertisers, the law may not allow us to limit our public advertising to
Catholics. Besides, there are various benefits of allowing non-Catholics
to advertise (e.g. they may be encouraged to visit other areas of the
site and learn more about the Catholic faith). Allowing non-Catholics to
advertise also tends to encourage advertisers to be truthful about their
Catholic affiliation since they may feel more confident that their
suitable ad won't be automatically "rejected" simply because
they are not Catholic. Furthermore, note that Catholics must associate
and interact with non-Catholics in daily life. As Tertullian has said,
"We are not strangers to life. We are fully aware of the gratitude
we owe to God, our Lord and Creator. We reject none of the fruits of His
handiwork; we only abstain from their immoderate or unlawful use. We are
living in the world with you; we do not shun your forum, your markets,
your baths, your shops, your factories, your stables, your places of
business and traffic. We take shop with you and we serve in your armies;
we are farmers and merchants with you; we interchange skilled labor and
display our works in public for your service. How we can seem
unprofitable to you with whom we live and of whom we are, I know
not." (Tertullian, as quoted by Pope Pius XI in "Divini Illius
Magistri")

Summary
Q.
Are non-Catholics allowed to advertise here? Are there any restrictions
on non-Catholics?
A.
Yes, non-Catholics are allowed to advertise and respond to
advertisements in commercial sections of this site. (Why?) However,
there are some restrictions on non-Catholics (e.g. non-Catholics should
not sell religious products, advertise non-Catholic
"churches", advertise unCatholic/non-Catholic messages,
anti-Catholics should not advertise, those notoriously engaged in
unCatholic activities should not advertise, non-Catholics should not
submit ad content deemed inappropriate for a Catholic site, etc.). Note:
We may limit / restrict participation in commercial sections by
non-Catholics at our sole option. If you submit ad requests which do not
meet our guidelines (or which we otherwise deem inappropriate), we may
process but not schedule your ad. If so, you may be charged for
processing even though your ad does not appear on this site.

Summary
Q.
Should I donate to/patronize a non-Catholic organization?
A.
Your decision of which organizations to patronize is up to you (in
accordance with the law), and we cannot prohibit you from patronizing
non-Catholic organizations (although you should be aware that there may
be may be a risk to your faith if you patronize certain anti-Catholic or
non-Catholic organizations - and that your patronizing of non-Catholic
or anti-Catholic organizations may directly or indirectly promote the
spread of heresy). Reminder: Catholics should not patronize non-Catholic
or anti-Catholic religious activities or non-Catholic or anti-Catholic
religious organizations.

Summary
Q.
Why do you allow non-Catholics to advertise on a Catholic website?
A.
As indicated previously, it is not possible for us to limit ads on this
site to Catholics. Not only is it impossible for us to verify the
Catholicity of all advertisers, the law may not allow us to limit our
public advertising to Catholics. Besides, there are various benefits of
allowing non-Catholics to advertise (e.g. they may be encouraged to
visit other areas of the site and learn more about the Catholic faith).
Allowing non-Catholics to advertise also tends to encourage advertisers
to be truthful about their Catholic affiliation since they may feel more
confident that their suitable ad won't be automatically
"rejected" simply because they are not Catholic. And, since
paid third party advertisements should appear only in commercial areas of this site,
they do not affect the Catholic content of this site. Furthermore, note
that Catholics must associate and interact with non-Catholics in daily
life. As Tertullian has said, "We are not strangers to life. We are
fully aware of the gratitude we owe to God, our Lord and Creator. We
reject none of the fruits of His handiwork; we only abstain from their
immoderate or unlawful use. We are living in the world with you; we do

shop with you and we serve in your armies; we are farmers and merchants

for your service. How we can seem unprofitable to you with whom we live
and of whom we are, I know not." (Tertullian, as quoted by Pope
Pius XI in "Divini Illius Magistri") Finally, note that our
main focus is content of this site - "we are not in the business of
screening potential advertisers for true and faithful Catholicity - as
if this were even possible!" Clearly, we can't control others, and
the best we can hope for is to merely control what actually appears on
our site.

Summary
Q.
Doesn't allowing ads of non-Catholics affect the Catholic identity of
this site?
A.
Perhaps no more than harmless ads of non-Catholics which may appear in
an average parish bulletin affect the Catholic identity of the church. Our
Catholic identity is of critical importance to us - and while we can't
forbid non-Catholics from advertising, we believe the best we can hope
for is to control what actually appears on our site. Remember that paid third
party advertisements should appear only in commercial areas so they do not
affect the Catholic content of this site.

appears here does not mean that we agree with or endorse it. Information

Summary
Q.
So you would knowingly allow non-Catholics to advertise?
A.
Yes. (Why?) Harmless third party ads of non-Catholics do not affect the
Catholicity of this site any more than such ads on your parish bulletin
would affect the Catholicity of the parish. Furthermore paid third party
advertisements should appear only in commercial areas, so they do not affect
the Catholic content of this site.

Summary
Q.
So you may accept money from heretics / schismatics / apostates /
atheists to advertise here?
A.
It would be impossible to avoid. Our ads are priced for widest variety
and we simply do not have the staff or ability to personally research
every organization / ad / group / etc., and we may be legally prevented
from placing various restrictions on non-Catholics. We must limit
ourselves to being satisfied that the actual content of ads themselves
is not offensive (which is our goal, but not a guarantee). They are
responsible for their own faith and actions. By allowing them to
advertise here, we are not directly encouraging Catholics to support
them since we specifically indicate that we do not endorse or recommend
any product / service / ad / advertiser / organization / group /
institution / school / religious order / charity / business / provider /
employer / individual / website / publication / message / information /
instruction / assistance / opinion / point of view / activity / event /
offer / offerer / request / requestor / seller / buyer / manufacturer /
distributor / author / publisher / submitter / item / etc. Further, we
recommend that Catholics carefully research those whom they do business
with.

religious order / charity / business / provider / employer / individual
/ website / publication / activity / event / offerer / requestor /

Unfortunately not. There is no guarantee that what any advertiser /
organization / group / institution / school / religious order / charity
/ business / provider / employer / individual / website / publication /
offerer / requestor / seller / buyer / manufacturer / distributor /

Summary
Q.
How can I tell if a business / organization / individual / etc. is truly
Catholic?
A.
You should use principles always taught by the Church when evaluating
whether a business / organization / individual / etc. is truly Catholic.
Note that certain issues in today's climate may be especially helpful
when considering the Catholicity of a business / organization /
individual / etc. (For example, are they against abortion, homosexual
behavior, contraception, and 'women's ordination'? Do they support
charismatic or new age activities? Do they promote false ecumenism or
religious indifferentism? Are they schismatic?). Remember that anyone
may lie or misrepresent their true position. And remember that,
unfortunately, even episcopal approval doesn't necessarily guarantee
that any given business / organization / individual / etc. may be
recognized as 'truly Catholic' based on the constant teachings of the
Church.

Q.
What does it mean that Catholic or traditional Catholic items may
receive preference?
A.
This means that we may give preference to ads regarding Catholic or
traditional Catholic items (including products, services, messages,
information, organizations, groups, charities, schools, activities,
events, publications, etc.). For example, an ad for Catholic artwork
(especially traditional Catholic artwork) may receive preference over,
say, an ad for non-Catholic artwork. This especially may occur, for
example, if we are restricting the number of records or if we are behind
in processing (or for any other reason).

Summary
Q.
I am unclear about your terms regarding transaction(s) / activity(ies) /
offer(s) / request(s) / etc. What do they include?
A.
When we state terms such as (but not limited to): "we are not a
party to others' transactions / activities", "we are not a
party to your transactions / activities", "we are not a party
to others' transactions", etc. the terms "transaction(s)"
[and/or "activity(ies)", and/or "transfer(s)" /
etc.] refers to any offering / requesting / buying / selling / sending /
receiving / providing / contacts / correspondence / payments / mailing /
shipping / sending / transfers / events / advertising / browsing of ads
/ performance of services / receipt of services / activity(ies) / etc.
conducted in connection with any commercial area(s) of this site
(including any related materials), regardless of the initiating party
(and regardless of whether or not any money changes hands). It includes
requesting an ad, responding to an ad, requesting item(s), contacts /
corresponding about an ad - or any other contact / correspondence /
communication - including all contacts / dealings of any sort between
any parties, offering any item(s)/service(s), sending any item(s),
requesting any item(s)/service(s), lending any item(s), borrowing any
item(s), trading any item(s), receiving any item(s)/service(s),
exchanging any item(s), providing any item(s)/service(s), giving any
item(s), providing any service(s) / use of any item(s), providing /
receiving payments / reimbursements / etc. of any kind, follow up, and
any other activity / action (or non-action) / occurrence / contact /
correspondence / outcome / consequence, etc. which occurs as a (direct
or indirect) result of use of any commercial area(s) of this site (or
related materials), whether incidental or not, whether completed or not,
whether related to the direct shipping/mailing/receiving of any item (or
providing / receipt of a service) or not, without limit. Note that terms
such as "your transactions", "your activities",
"your transfers", "others' transfers", "other's
transactions", "others' activities",
"transactions", "activities", "transfers",
etc. are broad terms which (generally) include all actions (and
non-actions) of yourself and of others. For example, the term "your
transactions" (e.g. "You are solely responsible for all
consequences of your transactions") does include the actions and
non-actions of others [e.g. their sending item(s) to you or failing to
send item(s) to you, their requesting/receiving item(s) from you or
failing to receive items from you, their contacting you, etc., and all
other actions / non-actions / contacts / correspondence, etc. of any
party, without limit]. The following terms may be used interchangeably
(or as much so as deemed applicable by us): transfer(s), transaction(s),
activity(ies), commercial activity(ies), commercial related activity(ies),
etc. The above terms apply regardless of who initiates the contact, and
they apply whether use of the site involves advertising or responding to
advertisement(s) [whether or not any item(s)/service(s) are ever
requested / offered / provided / received], and they apply to any other
use of the site (or related materials). The following terms may also be
used in a similar manner (and interchangeably): offers / offer &
requests / request. The terms "offer" or "offers"
are broad terms which refer to all actions (including any advertisement
/ response, correspondence, etc.) and non-actions connected in any way,
without limit, to any ad [whether or not any item(s)/service(s) are
offered / provided], and to all actions (including any ad / response,
correspondence, etc.) and non-actions, without limit, which may include
an offer for item(s)/service(s) (e.g. submitting an ad request,
submitting ad content, responding to an ad / etc.), whether or not any
item(s)/services are actually offered / provided - and regardless of the
nature of any ad / response / correspondence, etc. (e.g. they apply even
to any "fake" / "pretend", blank, etc. submissions /
responses / correspondence, etc.). The terms "request" or
"requests" are broad terms which refer to all actions
(including any advertisement / response, correspondence, etc.) and
non-actions connected in any way, without limit, to any item ad [whether
or not any item(s)/service(s) are requested / received], and to all
actions (including any ad / response, correspondence, etc.) and
non-actions, without limit, which may include a request for item(s)/service(s)
(e.g. submitting an ad request, submitting ad content, responding to an
ad / etc.), whether or not any item(s)/services are actually requested /
received - and regardless of the nature of any ad / response /
correspondence, etc. (e.g. they apply even to any "fake" /
"pretend", blank, etc. submissions / responses /
correspondence, etc.). Note also that the terms "offer" and
"offers" may include the submitter / offerer (and anything
else in any way connected with/to the offer / offerer / submitter,
without limit - including, but not limited to, mailing/shipping,
packaging, addressing, providing of items/services, disbursement or
non-disbursement of items, receipt or non-receipt of items, use of
items, research, activities, follow up, correspondence / contacts, etc.)
and the terms "request" and "requests" may include
the submitter / requestor (and anything else in any way connected
with/to the request / requestor / submitter, without limit - including,
but not limited to, receiving, unpacking, receipt or non-receipt of
items/services, use of items, research, activities, follow up,
correspondence / contacts, etc.). Also note that the term
"contacts" may be used for convenience to refer to all forms
of contact / correspondence / communication / dealings with others, etc.
in any form - regarding any matter, regardless of the initiating party.
Also note that we may list various related terms (e.g.
"transaction", "transfer", "activities",
etc.) together in a single sentence even though one or more of the terms
may include the other terms (e.g. "transactions" includes
"transfers"). Listing such terms individually does not imply
that they refer to separate and distinct items. Also, note that some
items may be synonyms (e.g. advertiser / seller / offerer, etc.), yet
each may be listed separately on occasion. This does not necessarily
mean that such terms are different, but they may both be listed to make
a particular point even more clear for the reader. Note: For more
information regarding the terms "submitter",
"provider", "offerer", "seller",
"transferor", "vendor", "buyer",
"recipient", "requestor", "advertiser",

Q.
How can I put my ad in more places?
A.
In addition to placing your ad in the various commercial sections of
this site (e.g. MCS Directory, Sales & Specials, Classified Ads,
etc.), you may be able to request that your ad be duplicated in
additional categories within the various commercial sections. For
example, a provider of educational materials for computer users may
request an ad in the MCS Directory under "Education", and may
also request an ad in the MCS Directory under "Computers &
Technology". If this is done at the time of the original ad
request, a discounted processing fee on the repeated ad may be
available. For more information on repeated ads, see questions
below.

Summary
Q.
Does the term "place your ad now" appearing on this site mean
that I actually place my ad or that it will appear "now"?
A.
The term "place your ad now" as it appears on this site refers
to the requesting of an ad. You do not actually "place" the ad
on the site (and there is no guarantee that your ad will ever appear on
this site). If your ad does appear, there is no guarantee when it will
appear, how long it will appear, etc. The term "place your ad
now" should be taken to mean "request your ad now" (or
"place your ad in the system for consideration now").

occur on a random basis. If you do not respond to our verification on a
timely basis, your advertisement may be unscheduled. [Note that if we do
verify details regarding your offer, we will not ask for personal
information.] Users of this site, however, should assume that no details
whatsoever regarding ads have been verified.

Q.
May I include any Latin in my ad?
A.
Very small amounts (e.g. a couple/few words) of Latin (not Spanish!) may
be allowed in ads, providing that each and every Latin word is
accompanied by an English translation [e.g. in brackets ( )]. Note that
even if the company name (or website address) is in Latin, an English
translation of the company name (or website address) is required. Note
that if you do not provide complete & appropriate English
translations for all Latin words, your ad may be processed and
unscheduled. If so, you may be charged for processing even though your
ad does not appear on this site.
