Wealth is good when there is no sin; but poverty is evil by the
standards of the proud. [SIRACH 13:23]
The heart of a man changes his countenance,
either for good or for evil. [SIRACH 13:24]
Abominable wickedness the LORD hates, he does not let it befall
those who fear him. [SIRACH 15:13]
Desire not a brood of worthless children, nor rejoice in wicked
offspring. [SIRACH 16:1]
He says to them, "Avoid all evil"; each of them he
gives precepts about his fellow men. [SIRACH 17:12]
Their wickedness cannot be hidden from him; all of their sins
are before the LORD. [SIRACH 17:16]
He who gloats over evil will meet with evil, and he who repeats
an evil report has no sense. [SIRACH 19:5]
The knowledge of wickedness is not wisdom, nor is there
prudence in the counsel of sinners. [SIRACH 19:18]
A fall to the ground is less sudden than a slip of the tongue;
that is why the downfall of the wicked comes so quickly. [SIRACH
20:17]
Wickedness changes a woman's looks, and makes her sullen as a
female bear. [SIRACH 25:16]
Store up almsgiving in your treasure house, and it will save you from every evil; Better than a stout shield and a sturdy spear it will fight for you against the foe. [SIRACH 29:12-13]
For he has been tested by gold and come off safe, and this
remains his glory; He could have sinned but did not, could have
done evil but would not [Taken from SIRACH 31:10]
Remember that gluttony is evil. [Taken from SIRACH 31:13]
No evil can harm the man who fears the LORD; through trials,
again and again he is safe. [SIRACH 33:1]
As evil contrasts with good, and death with life, so are
sinners in contrast with the just [Taken from SIRACH 33:14]
To refrain from evil pleases the LORD, and to avoid injustice
is an atonement. [SIRACH 35:3]
Good and evil, death and life, their absolute mistress is the
tongue. [SIRACH 37:18]
Flee wickedness; let your hands be just, cleanse your heart of
every sin [Taken from SIRACH 38:10]
Good things for the good he provided from the beginning, but for the wicked good things and bad.
Chief of all needs for human life are water and fire, iron and salt, The heart of the wheat, milk and honey, the blood of the grape, and oil, and cloth; For the good all these are good, but for the wicked they turn out evil.
[SIRACH 39:25-27]
A reprobate line are the children of sinners, and witless
offspring are in the homes of the wicked. [SIRACH 41:5]
Children curse their wicked father, for they suffer disgrace
through him. [SIRACH 41:7]
The name JOSIAH is like blended incense, made lasting by a skilled perfumer.
Precious is his memory, like honey to the taste, like music at a banquet. For he grieved over our betrayals, and destroyed the abominable idols. He turned to God with his whole heart, and, though times were evil, he practiced virtue.
[SIRACH 49:1-3]
I turned every way, but there was no one to help me, I looked for one to sustain me, but could find no one. But then I remembered the mercies of the LORD, his kindness through ages past;
For he saves those who take refuge in him, and rescues them from every evil. So I raised my voice from the very earth, from the gates of the nether world, my cry. I called out: O Lord, you are my father, you are my champion and my savior;
Do not abandon me in time of trouble, in the midst of storms and dangers. I will ever praise your name and be constant in my prayers to you.
Thereupon the LORD heard my voice, he listened to my appeal; He saved me from evil of every kind and preserved me in time of trouble. For this reason I thank him and I praise him; I bless the name of the LORD.
[SIRACH 51:7-12]
Ah! sinful nation, people laden with wickedness, evil race,
corrupt children! They have forsaken the LORD, spurned the Holy
One of Israel, apostatized. [ISA 1:4]
Wash yourselves clean! Put away your misdeeds from before my eyes; cease doing evil; learn to do good.
Make justice your aim: redress the wronged, hear the orphan's plea, defend the widow. Come now, let us set things right, says the LORD:
Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow; Though they be crimson red, they may become white as wool. If you are willing, and obey, you shall eat the good things of the land; But if you refuse and resist, the sword shall consume you: for the mouth of the LORD has spoken! [ISA
1:16-20]
Woe to the wicked man! All goes ill, with the work of his hands
he will be repaid. [ISA 3:11]
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who change
darkness into light, and light into darkness, who change bitter
into sweet, and sweet into bitter! [ISA 5:20]
For wickedness burns like fire, devouring brier and thorn; It
kindles the forest thickets, which go up in columns of smoke. [ISA
9:17]
But he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide aright for
the land's afflicted. He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of
his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the
wicked. [ISA 11:4]
Lo, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and burning anger;
To lay waste the land and destroy the sinners within it! The stars and constellations of the heavens send forth no light;
The sun is dark when it rises, and the light of the moon does not shine. Thus I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their guilt.
I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant, the insolence of tyrants I will humble. [ISA
13:9-11]
The wicked man, spared, does not learn justice; in an upright
land he acts perversely, and sees not the majesty of the LORD.
[ISA 26:10]
For the fool speaks foolishly, planning evil in his heart: How
to do wickedness, to speak perversely against the LORD, To let the
hungry go empty and the thirsty be without drink. [ISA 32:6]
He who practices virtue and speaks honestly, who spurns what is gained by oppression,
Brushing his hands free of contact with a bribe, stopping his ears lest he hear of bloodshed, closing his eyes lest he look on
evil - He shall dwell on the heights, his stronghold shall be the rocky fastness, his food and drink in steady supply.
[ISA 33:15-16]
Because you felt secure in your wickedness, and said, "No one sees me."
Your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray, And you said to yourself, "I, and no one else!" But upon you shall come evil you will not know how to predict;
Disaster shall befall you which you cannot allay. Suddenly there shall come upon you ruin which you will not expect.
[ISA 47:10-11]
Their webs cannot serve as clothing, nor can they cover themselves with their works.
Their works are evil works, and deeds of violence come from their hands. Their feet run to evil, and they are quick to shed innocent blood;
Their thoughts are destructive thoughts, plunder and ruin are on their highways. The way of peace they know not, and there is nothing that is right in their paths;
Their ways they have made crooked, whoever treads them knows no peace. [ISA
59:6-8]
Right is repelled, and justice stands far off; For truth stumbles in the public square, uprightness cannot enter. Honesty is lacking, and the man who turns from evil is despoiled. The LORD saw this, and was aggrieved that right did not exist. He saw that there was no one, and was appalled that there was none to intervene;
So his own arm brought about the victory, and his justice lent him its support. [ISA
59:14-16]
I in turn will choose ruthless treatment for them and bring
upon them what they fear. Because, when I called, no one answered,
when I spoke, no one listened; Because they did what was evil in
my sight, and chose what gave me displeasure [Taken from ISA 66:4]
Your own wickedness chastises you, your own infidelities punish
you. Know then, and see, how evil and bitter is your forsaking the
LORD, your God, And showing no fear of me, says the Lord, the GOD
of hosts. [JER 2:19]
"Will he keep his wrath forever, will he hold his grudge
to the end?" This is what you say; yet you do all the evil
you can. [JER 3:5]
Fools my people are, they know me not; Senseless children they
are, having no understanding; They are wise in evil, but know not
how to do good. [JER 4:22]
Why do these people rebel with obstinate resistance? Why do they cling to deceptive idols, refuse to turn back? I listen closely: they speak what is not true;
No one repents of his wickedness, saying, "What have I done!" Everyone keeps on running his course, like a steed dashing into battle.
[JER 8:5-6]
They ready their tongues like a drawn bow; with lying, and not
with truth, they hold forth in the land. They go from evil to
evil, but me they know not, says the LORD. [JER 9:2]
But they did not listen or give ear. Each one followed the
hardness of his evil heart, till I brought upon them all the
threats of this covenant which they had failed to observe as I
commanded them. [JER 11:8]
Can the Ethiopian change his skin? the leopard his spots? As
easily would you be able to do good, accustomed to evil as you
are. [JER 13:23]
We recognize, O LORD, our wickedness, the guilt of our fathers; that we have sinned against you. For your name's sake spurn us not, disgrace not the throne of your glory; remember your covenant with us, and break it not.
[JER 14:20-21]
I will free you from the hand of the wicked, and rescue you
from the grasp of the violent. [JER 15:21]
But if that nation does what is evil in my eyes, refusing to
obey my voice, I repent of the good with which I promised to bless
it. [JER 18:10]
Sing to the LORD, praise the LORD, For he has rescued the life
of the poor from the power of the wicked! [JER 20:13]
Therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, against the
shepherds who shepherd my people: You have scattered my sheep and
driven them away. You have not cared for them, but I will take
care to punish your evil deeds. [JER 23:2]
Do not follow strange gods to serve and adore them, lest you
provoke me with your handiwork, and I bring evil upon you. [JER
25:6]
No longer will they have need to teach their friends and
kinsmen how to know the LORD. All, from least to greatest, shall
know me, says the LORD, for I will forgive their evildoing and
remember their sin no more. [JER 31:34]
The LORD could no longer bear your evil deeds, the horrible
things which you were doing; and so your land became a waste, a
desert, a thing accursed and without inhabitants, as it is today.
[JER 44:22]
If I say to the wicked man, You shall surely die; and you do
not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his wicked conduct
so that he may live: that wicked man shall die for his sin, but I
will hold you responsible for his death. [EZEK 3:18]
On the other hand, if a man begets a son who, seeing all the sins his father commits, yet fears and does not imitate him; a son who does not eat on the mountains, or raise his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, or defile his neighbor's wife; who does not oppress anyone, or exact a pledge, or commit robbery; who gives his food to the hungry and clothes the naked; who holds off from evildoing, accepts no interest or usury, but keeps my ordinances and lives by my
statutes - this one shall not die for the sins of his father, but shall surely live. [EZEK
18:14-17]
Only the one who sins shall die. The son shall not be charged
with the guilt of his father, nor shall the father be charged with
the guilt of his son. The virtuous man's virtue shall be his own,
as the wicked man's wickedness shall be his own. [EZEK 18:20]
But if the wicked man turns away from all the sins he
committed, if he keeps all my statutes and does what is right and
just, he shall surely live, he shall not die. [EZEK 18:21]
Do I indeed derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked?
says the Lord GOD. Do I not rather rejoice when he turns from his
evil way that he may live? [EZEK 18:23]
And if the virtuous man turns from the path of virtue to do
evil, the same kind of abominable things that the wicked man does,
can he do this and still live? None of his virtuous deeds shall be
remembered, because he has broken faith and committed sin; because
of this, he shall die. [EZEK 18:24]
But if a wicked man, turning from the wickedness he has
committed, does what is right and just, he shall preserve his life
[Taken from EZEK 18:27]
There you shall recall your conduct and all the deeds by which
you defiled yourselves; and you shall loathe yourselves because of
all the evil things you did. [EZEK 20:43]
If I tell the wicked man that he shall surely die, and you do
not speak out to dissuade the wicked man from his way, he (the
wicked man) shall die for his guilt, but I will hold you
responsible for his death. But if you warn the wicked man, trying to turn him from his
way, and he refuses to turn from his way, he shall die for his
guilt, but you shall save yourself. [EZEK 33:8-9]
We have sinned, been wicked and done evil; we have rebelled and
departed from your commandments and your laws. [DAN 9:5]
"As for you, Daniel, keep secret the message and seal the
book until the end time; many shall fall away and evil shall
increase." [DAN 12:4]
Many shall be refined, purified, and tested, but the wicked
shall prove wicked; none of them shall have understanding, but the
wise shall have it. [DAN 12:10]
They have sunk to the depths of corruption, as in the days of
Gibeah; He shall remember their iniquity and punish their sins.
[HOSEA 9:9]
Therefore the prudent man is silent at this time, for it is an
evil time. [AMOS 5:13]
Seek good and not evil, that you may live; Then truly will the
LORD, the God of hosts, be with you as you claim! [AMOS 5:14]
Do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the alien or the poor;
do not plot evil against one another in your hearts. [ZECH 7:10]
These then are the things you should do: Speak the truth to one another; let there be honesty and peace in the judgments at your gates, and let none of you plot evil against another in his heart, nor love a false oath. For all these things I hate, says the LORD.
[ZECH 8:16-17]
True doctrine was in his mouth, and no dishonesty was found
upon his lips; He walked with me in integrity and in uprightness,
and turned many away from evil. [MAL 2:6]
For lo, the day is coming, blazing like an oven, when all the
proud and all evildoers will be stubble, And the day that is
coming will set them on fire, leaving them neither root nor
branch, says the LORD of hosts. [MAL 3:19]
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you. [MT
5:11-12]
"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on (your) right cheek, turn the other one to him as well." [MT
5:38-39]
Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself.
Sufficient for a day is its own evil. [MT 6:34]
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of
bread, or a snake when he asks for a fish? 1 If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him." [MT
7:7-11]
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?' Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you.
Depart from me, you evildoers.'"
[MT 7:21-23]
"Either declare the tree good and its fruit is good, or declare the tree rotten and its fruit is rotten, for a tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you say good things when you are evil? For from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks. A good person brings forth good out of a store of goodness, but an evil person brings forth evil out of a store of evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will render an account for every careless word they speak." [MT
12:33-36]
Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him,
"Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you." He said to them in reply, "An evil and unfaithful
generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights,
so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights." [MT
12:38-40]
"When an unclean spirit goes out of a person it roams through arid regions searching for rest but finds none. Then it says, 'I will return to my home from which I came.' But upon returning, it finds it empty, swept clean, and put in order. Then it goes and brings back with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they move in and dwell there; and the last condition of that person is worse than the first. Thus it will be with this evil generation." [MT
12:43-45]
Just as weeds are collected and burned (up) with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom
all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. [MT
13:40-42]
Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
[MT 13:49-50]
"For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery,
unchastity, theft, false witness, blasphemy. These are what defile a person, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile." [MT
15:19-20]
[Jesus said,] "An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign
will be given it except the sign of Jonah." Then he left them
and went away. [Taken from MT 16:4]
Jesus answered, "I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times. That is why the kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who decided to settle accounts with his servants. When he began the accounting, a debtor was brought before him who owed him a huge amount. Since he had no way of paying it back, his master ordered him to be sold, along with his wife, his children, and all his property, in payment of the debt. At that, the servant fell down, did him homage, and said, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back in full.' Moved with compassion the master of that servant let him go and forgave him the loan. When that servant had left, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a much smaller amount.
He seized him and started to choke him, demanding, 'Pay back what you owe.' Falling to his knees, his fellow servant begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.' But he refused. Instead, he had him put in prison until he paid back the debt. Now when his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were deeply disturbed, and went to their master and reported the whole affair.
His master summoned him and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to. Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you?' Then in anger his master handed him over to the torturers until he should pay back the whole
debt. So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives his brother from his heart."
[MT 18:22-35]
Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean. "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men's bones and every kind of filth. Even so, on the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing." [MT
23:26-28]
Many false prophets will arise and deceive many; and because of the increase of evildoing, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. [MT
24:11-13]
"Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is long delayed,' and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards, the servant's master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."
[MT 24:45-51]
"It will be as when a man who was going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents;
to another, two; to a third, one - to each according to his ability. Then he went away. Immediately the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five. Likewise, the one who received two made another two. But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money. After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them... Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, 'Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.' His master said to him in reply, 'You wicked, lazy servant!
So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter? Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return? Now then! Take the
talent from him and give it to the one with ten.'" [MT
25:14-19,24-28]
Then he said to them, "Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?" But they remained silent. Looking around at them with anger and grieved at their hardness of heart, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out and his hand was restored. [MK
3:4-5]
"From within people, from their hearts, come evil thoughts,
unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils come from within and they defile." [MK
7:21-23]
Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?" Looking around at them all, he then said to him, "Stretch out your hand." He did so and his hand was restored.
[LK 6:9-10]
Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way. [LK 6:22-23]
But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend
expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you
will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the
ungrateful and the wicked. [LK 6:35]
A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart
produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces
evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks. [LK
6:45]
"What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish? Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the
Holy Spirit to those who ask him?"
[LK 11:11-13]
"When an unclean spirit goes out of someone, it roams through arid regions searching for rest but, finding none, it says, 'I shall return to my home from which I came.' But upon returning, it finds it swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and brings back seven other spirits more wicked than itself who move in and dwell there, and the last condition of that person is worse than the first."
[LK 11:24-26]
While still more people gathered in the crowd, he said to them,
"This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but
no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah." [LK 11:29]
The Lord said to him, "Oh you Pharisees! Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, inside you are filled with plunder and evil.
You fools! Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside? But as to what is within, give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you."
[LK 11:39-41]
Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" He answered them, "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough. After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, 'Lord, open the door for us.' He will say to you in reply, 'I do not know where you are from.' And you will say, 'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.' Then he will say to you, 'I do not know where (you) are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!' And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out."
[LK 13:23-28]
"For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me,
namely, 'He was counted among the wicked'; and indeed what is
written about me is coming to fulfillment." [LK 22:37]
And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.
[JN 3:19-21]
Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and will come out, those who have done good deeds to the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked deeds to the resurrection of condemnation.
[JN 5:28-29]
The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I testify
to it that its works are evil. [JN 7:7]
He testified with many other arguments, and was exhorting them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."
Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand persons were added that day.
[ACTS 2:40-41]
"You are the children of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors when he said to Abraham, 'In your offspring all the families of the earth shall be blessed.' For you first, God raised up his servant and sent him to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways."
[ACTS 3:25-26]
Repent of this wickedness of yours and pray to the Lord that,
if possible, your intention may be forgiven. [ACTS 8:22]
The Lord said to him, "Get up and go to the street called Straight and ask at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is there praying, and (in a vision) he has seen a man named Ananias come in and lay (his) hands on him, that he may regain his sight." But Ananias replied, "Lord, I have heard from many sources about this man, what evil things he has done to your holy ones
in Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison all who call upon your name." But the Lord said to him, "Go, for this man is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before Gentiles, kings, and Israelites, and I will show him what he will have to suffer for my name." [ACTS
9:11-16]
The wrath of God is indeed being revealed from heaven against every impiety and wickedness of those who suppress the truth by their wickedness. For what can be known about God is evident to them, because God made it evident to them. Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made. As a result, they have no excuse; for although they knew God they did not accord him glory as God or give him thanks. Instead, they became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless minds were darkened. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God handed them over to their undiscerning mind to do what is improper. They are filled with every form of wickedness, evil, greed, and malice; full of envy, murder, rivalry, treachery, and spite. They are gossips and scandalmongers and they hate God. They are insolent, haughty, boastful, ingenious in their wickedness, and rebellious toward their parents. They are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know the just decree of God that all who practice such things deserve death, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
[ROM 1:18-21,28-32]
By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God, who will repay everyone according to his
works: eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works, but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness. Yes, affliction and distress will come upon every human being who does evil, Jew first and then Greek. But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, Jew first and then Greek. [ROM
2:5-10]
But if our wickedness provides proof of God's righteousness, what can we say? Is God unjust, humanly speaking, to inflict his wrath?
Of course not! For how else is God to judge the world? [ROM 3:5-6]
And why not say - as we are accused and as some claim we say -
that we should do evil that good may come of it? Their
penalty is what they deserve. [ROM 3:8]
And do not present the parts of your bodies to sin as weapons
for wickedness, but present yourselves to God as raised from the
dead to life and the parts of your bodies to God as weapons for
righteousness. [ROM 6:13]
For I know that good does not dwell in me, that is, in my flesh. The willing is ready at hand, but doing the good is not. For I do not do the good I want, but I do the evil I do not want. Now if (I) do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. So, then, I discover the principle that when I want to do right, evil is at hand. For I take delight in the law of God, in my inner self, but I see in my members
another principle at war with the law of my mind, taking me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my
members. Miserable one that I am! Who will deliver me from this mortal body? [ROM
7:18-24]
Let love be sincere; hate what is evil, hold on to what is good
[Taken from ROM 12:9]
Do not repay anyone evil for evil; be concerned for what is
noble in the sight of all. [ROM 12:17]
Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good. [ROM
12:21]
Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God. Therefore, whoever resists authority opposes what God has appointed, and those who oppose it will bring judgment upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear to good conduct, but to evil. Do you wish to have no fear of authority? Then do what is
good and you will receive approval from it, for it is a servant of God for your good. But if you do evil, be afraid, for it does not bear the sword without purpose; it is the servant of God to inflict wrath on the evildoer. [ROM
13:1-4]
Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the
fulfillment of the law. [ROM 13:10]
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who create dissensions and obstacles, in opposition to the teaching that you learned; avoid them. For such people do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites, and by fair and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the innocent. For while your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I want you to be wise as to what is good, and simple as to what is evil; then the God of peace will quickly crush Satan
under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. [ROM
16:17-20]
Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with the old yeast,
the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread
of sincerity and truth. [1COR 5:8]
But I now write to you not to associate with anyone named a brother, if he is immoral, greedy, an idolater, a slanderer, a drunkard, or a robber, not even to eat with such a person. For why should I be judging outsiders? Is it not your business to judge those within? God will judge those outside. "Purge the evil person from your midst."
[1COR
5:11-13]
I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea, and all of them were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. All ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from a spiritual rock that followed them,
and the rock was the Christ. Yet God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the desert. These things happened as examples for us, so that we might not desire evil things, as they did. [1COR
10:1-6]
Brothers, stop being childish in your thinking. In respect to
evil be like infants, but in your thinking be mature. [1COR 14:20]
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so
that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in
the body, whether good or evil. [2COR 5:10]
I hope you will discover that we have not failed. But we pray to God that you may not do evil, not that we may appear to have passed the test but that you may do what is right, even though we may seem to have failed. [2COR
13:6-7]
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins that he might rescue us from the present evil age in accord with the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
[Taken from GAL 1:4]
Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise, making the most of the opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord.
[EPH 5:15-17]
Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to
resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your
ground. [EPH 6:13]
And you who once were alienated and hostile in mind because of evil deeds he has now reconciled in his fleshly body through his death, to present you holy, without blemish, and irreproachable before him, provided that you persevere in the faith, firmly grounded, stable, and not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, am a minister.
[COL 1:21-23]
Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly:
immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and the greed that is
idolatry. [COL 3:5]
See that no one returns evil for evil; rather, always seek what
is good (both) for each other and for all. [1THES 5:15]
Refrain from every kind of evil. [1THES 5:22]
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. But the one who restrains is to do so only for the present, until he is removed from the scene. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord (Jesus) will kill with the breath of his mouth and render powerless by the manifestation of his coming, the one whose coming springs from the power of Satan in every mighty deed and in signs and wonders that lie, and in every wicked deceit for those who are perishing because they have not accepted the love of truth so that they may be saved. [2THES
2:7-10]
Finally, brothers, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord
may speed forward and be glorified, as it did among you, and that
we may be delivered from perverse and wicked people, for not all
have faith. [2THES 3:1-2]
Whoever teaches something different and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the religious teaching is conceited, understanding nothing, and has a morbid disposition for arguments and verbal disputes. From these come envy, rivalry, insults, evil suspicions, and mutual friction among people with corrupted minds, who are deprived of the truth, supposing religion to be a means of gain [1TM
6:3-5]
For the love of money is the root of all evils, and some people
in their desire for it have strayed from the faith and have
pierced themselves with many pains. [1TM 6:10]
Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands, bearing this
inscription, "The Lord knows those who are his"; and,
"Let everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord avoid
evil." [2TM 2:19]
In fact, all who want to live religiously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. But wicked people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. [2TM
3:12-13]
The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring
me safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever.
Amen. [2TM 4:18]
Take care, brothers, that none of you may have an evil and
unfaithful heart, so as to forsake the living God. [HEB 3:12]
Everyone who lives on milk lacks experience of the word of righteousness, for he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those whose faculties are trained by practice to discern good and evil. [HEB
5:13-14]
For if that first covenant had been faultless, no place would have been sought for a second one. But he finds fault with them and says:
"Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will conclude a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah... For I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sins no more." [HEB
8:7-8,12]
Therefore, brothers, since through the blood of Jesus we have confidence of entrance into the sanctuary by the new and living way he opened for us through the veil, that is, his flesh, and since we have "a great priest over the house of God,"
let us approach with a sincere heart and in absolute trust, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. [HEB
10:19-22]
No one experiencing temptation should say, "I am being
tempted by God"; for God is not subject to temptation to
evil, and he himself tempts no one. [JMS 1:13]
Therefore, put away all filth and evil excess and humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you and is able to save your souls. Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves. [JMS
1:21-22]
My brothers, show no partiality as you adhere to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. For if a man with gold rings on his fingers and in fine clothes comes into your assembly, and a poor person in shabby clothes also comes in, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say, "Sit here, please," while you say to the poor one, "Stand there," or "Sit at my feet," have you not made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil
designs? [JMS 2:1-4]
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. [JMS
3:7-8]
Do not speak evil of one another, brothers. Whoever speaks evil
of a brother or judges his brother speaks evil of the law and
judges the law. If you judge the law, you are not a doer of the
law but a judge. [JMS 4:11]
But now you are boasting in your arrogance. All such boasting
is evil. [JMS 4:16]
Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that if they speak
of you as evildoers, they may observe your good works and glorify
God on the day of visitation. Be subject to every human institution for the Lord's sake, whether it be to the king as supreme or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the approval of those who do good. For it is the will of God that by doing good you may silence the ignorance of foolish people. [1PT
2:12-15]
Be free, yet without using freedom as a pretext for evil, but
as slaves of God. [1PT 2:16]
Do not return evil for evil, or insult for insult; but, on the contrary, a blessing, because to this you were called, that you might inherit a blessing. For:
"Whoever would love life and see good days must keep the tongue from evil and the lips from speaking deceit, must turn from evil and do good, seek peace and follow after it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears turned to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against evildoers." [1PT 3:9-12]
For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be the will
of God, than for doing evil. [1PT 3:17]
Through these, he has bestowed on us the precious and very
great promises, so that through them you may come to share in the
divine nature, after escaping from the corruption that is in the
world because of evil desire. [2PT 1:4]
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him in your house or even greet him; for whoever greets him shares in his evil works. [2JN
1:10-11]
Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does
what is good is of God; whoever does what is evil has never seen
God. [3JN 1:11]
"I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and
that you cannot tolerate the wicked; you have tested those who
call themselves apostles but are not, and discovered that they are
impostors." [RV 2:2]
Let the wicked still act wickedly, and the filthy still be filthy. The righteous must still do right, and the holy still be
holy. "Behold, I am coming soon. I bring with me the recompense I will give to each according to his deeds." [RV
