Act of Consecration to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus (Feast of Christ the King) |
Most
sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly
prostrate before Thy altar. We are Thine, and Thine we wish to be;
but, to be more surely united with Thee, behold, each one of us
freely consecrates himself today to Thy most Sacred Heart. Many
indeed have never known Thee; many too, despising Thy precepts,
have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus,
and draw them all to Thy Sacred Heart. Be Thou King, O Lord, not
only of the faithful who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the
prodigal children who have abandoned Thee; grant that they may
quickly return to their Father's house, lest they die of
wretchedness and hunger. Be Thou King of those who are deceived by
erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them
back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith.. Grant, O Lord, to Thy
Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and
order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole
with one cry: Praise be to the Divine Heart that wrought our
salvation; to It be glory and honor for ever. Amen.

on the Feast of Christ the King)

Act of Contrition
after Examination of Conscience |
O
my God, I detest these and all other sins which I have committed
against Thy divine Majesty. I am extremely sorry that I have
offended Thee, because Thou art infinitely good, and sin
displeaseth Thee. I love Thee with my whole heart; and firmly
purpose, by the help of Thy grace, never more to offend Thee. I
resolve to avoid the occasions of sin; I will confess my sins, and
will endeavor to make satisfaction for them. Have mercy on me, O
God, have mercy, and pardon me, a wretched sinner. In the name of
Thy beloved Son Jesus, I humbly beg of Thee so to wash me with His
precious Blood, that my sins may be entirely remitted. (St.
Andrew's Missal)

Advent Prayer (4) |
I
adore Thee, O incarnate Word, the true Son of God from all
eternity, and the true Son of Mary in the fullness of time. As I
adore Thy divine Person and the sacred Humanity thereto united, I
feel myself drawn to venerate likewise the poor Crib that welcomed
Thee, when Thou wast a little Child, and which was, in very truth,
the first throne of Thy love. Would that I could fall prostrate
before it with the simplicity of the shepherds, with the faith of
Joseph, and the love of Mary! Would that I too could bend low to
venerate this precious memorial of our salvation with the spirit
of mortification, poverty and humility, with which Thou, the Lord
of heaven and earth, didst choose a manger to be the resting place
of Thy dear limbs! And do Thou, O Lord, who didst deign in Thine
infancy to be laid in this manger, pour into my heart a drop of
that joy which must have been experienced at the sight of Thy
lovely infancy and of the wonders that accompanied Thy birth; by
virtue of this Thy holy birth, I implore Thee to give peace and
good-will to all the world, and, in the name of all mankind, to
render perfect thanksgiving and infinite glory to Thine eternal
Father, with whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, Thou livest
and reignest one God, world without end. Amen. (Raccolta)

light of day, providing thus the world's beginning with the
beginning of the new-made light. Thou biddest us call the time
from morn till eve day; this day is over; dark night comes on: Oh!
Hear our tearful prayers. Let not our soul, weighted down by
crime, misspend thy gift of life; and, forgetting what is eternal,
be earth-tied by her sins. Oh! May we strive to enter our heavenly
home, and bear away the prize of life; may we shun what would
injure us, and cleanse our soul from her defilements. Most
merciful Father, and thou, his only-begotten Son, co-equal with
him, reigning for ever, with the holy Paraclete, grant this our
prayer. Amen. (Liturgical Year)

O merciful Creator, the tearful prayers we present to thee, during
these forty days of fast. O loving searcher of the heart, thou

yet spare us, for we confess our sins to thee: and, for the glory
of thy name, heal our languid hearts. Grant that we may subdue our
flesh by abstinence; that thus our hearts may leave what nourishes
sin, and fast from every crime. O blessed Trinity! O undivided
Unity! Grant to us, thy servants, that our fasts may produce
abundant fruits. Amen. (Vespers of Lent)

Lenten Prayer (8) |
My
divine Savior, what didst Thou become, when for love of souls Thou
didst suffer Thyself to be bound to the pillar? Ah! How truly then
was fulfilled the word of the Prophet, saying of Thee that from
head to foot Thou shouldst be all one wound, so as to be no longer
recognizable! What shame Thou didst endure when they stripped Thee
of Thy garments! What torments Thou didst undergo in that tempest
of countless blows! In what torrents did Thy Most Precious Blood
gush forth from Thy bursting veins! I know well it was not so much
the injustice of the Roman governor and the cruelty of the
soldiers that scourged Thee as my sins. O accursed sins, that have
cost Thee so many pains! Alas, what hardness of heart, when
notwithstanding Thy manifold sufferings for me I have continued to
offend Thee! But from this day forth it shall be so no longer.
United to Thee by bonds of loyalty for ever, as long as I shall
live. I shall seek to satisfy Thine offended justice. By the pains
Thou didst suffer when bound to the pillar, by the scourges which
tore Thine innocent Flesh, by the Blood which Thou didst shed in
such abundance, have mercy on this unhappy soul of mine; deliver
me today and always from the snares of the tempter; and when I
have come to the end of my exile, bring me safely home to heaven
with Thee.

O
eternal God! Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; the beginning and end of
all things; in whom we live, and move, and have our being;
prostrate before Thee in body and soul, I adore Thee with the most
profound humility. I bless Thee, and give Thee thanks for all the
benefits Thou hast conferred upon me; especially that Thou hast
created me out of nothing, made me after Thine own image and
likeness, redeemed me with the precious Blood of Thy Son, and
sanctified me with Thy Holy Spirit. I thank Thee that thou hast
called me into Thy Church, assisted me by Thy grace, admitted me
to Thy sacraments, watched over me by Thy special providence;
blessed me, notwithstanding my sins and unworthiness, with the
continuance of Thy gracious protection; and for all the
innumerable blessings which I owe to Thy undeserved bounty. I
thank Thee especially for having preserved me during the past
night, and for bringing me in safety to the beginning of another
day. What return can I make to Thee, O my God, for all that Thou
hast done for me? I will bless Thy holy Name, and serve Thee all
the days of my life. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and let all that
is within me praise His holy Name. (St. Andrew's Missal)

Morning Hymn
(Ambrosian) |
The
star of morn to night succeeds, We therefore meekly pray, May God,
in all our words and deeds, Keep us from harm this day. May He in
love restrain us still From tones of strife and words of ill, And
wrap around and close our eyes To earth's absorbing vanities. May
wrath and thoughts that gender shame Ne'er in our breasts abide,
And painful abstinences tame Of wanton flesh the pride. So when
the wary day is o'er And night and stillness come once more,
Blameless and clean from spot of earth We may repeat with reverent
mirth - To God the Father glory be, And to His only Son, And to
the Spirit, One and Three, While endless ages run. Amen.

Prayer Before a
Crucifix (Vers. 2) |
Behold,
O good and sweetest Jesus, I cast myself upon my knees in Thy
sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul I pray and
beseech Thee to impress upon my heart lively sentiments of faith,
hope and charity, true repentance for my sins and a most firm
purpose of amendment; whilst with deep affection and grief of soul
I consider within myself and mentally contemplate Thy five most
precious Wounds, having before mine eyes, that which David, the
prophet, long ago spoke in Thine own person concerning Thee, my
Jesus: they have pierced my hands and my feet; they have numbered
all my bones.

Come,
Holy Ghost, divine Spirit of light and truth, assist me to

Confession (2) |
Come,
Holy Spirit, enlighten the darkness of my understanding and
sharpen my conscience so that I may recognize God's will in all
things. Send forth your light and truth into my soul. May I see
all my sins and failures in this light and confess them with a
contrite heart. Jesus Christ, gentle Savior, I put my hope of
salvation in You. Accept my confession with loving mercy and move
my heart to true contrition for my sins. Heavenly Father, when you
look into my soul, look not so much at the evil I have done but at
the genuine sorrow which I feel within my heart. Help me to
confess all my sins with a childlike trust in your loving
forgiveness.

Prayer
Before Extreme Unction |
Thou
hast mercifully provided remedies, O Lord, for all our
necessities: Grant me Thy grace to so make use of them, that my
soul may receive all those good effects which Thou hast appointed
in their institution. Now I desire to be anointed as Thou hast
commanded by thy apostle; grant, I beseech Thee, that by this holy
unction and the prayers of the Church, I may partake of that
spirit with which Christ suffered on the cross, for Thy glory, and
for the destruction of sin. Give me true patience to support all
the pains and trouble of my distemper; give me an inward strength
to resist all the temptations of the enemy; give me grace for the
pardon of all my failings; give me that true light by which I may
be conducted through the shadow of death to eternal happiness; and
if my health be expedient for Thy glory, let this be the means to
restore it. Behold, I approach this holy ordinance with a firm
faith and confidence in Thy goodness, that Thou wilt not forsake
me in this time of my distress, but that Thou wilt stand by me
with Thy grace, and defend me from all evil, and now prepare my
soul for a happy passage. Amen.

Prayer in Time of
Sickness (2) |
Lord
Jesus Christ, behold I receive this sickness, with which Thou art
pleased to visit me, as coming from Thy fatherly hand. It is Thy
Will it should be thus with me, and therefore I submit: Thy Will
be done on earth, as it is in heaven. May this sickness be to the
honor of Thy Holy Name, and for the good of my soul. For this end
I here offer myself with an entire submission to all Thy
appointments, to suffer whatever Thou pleasest, as long as Thou
pleasest, and in what manner Thou pleasest, for I am Thy creature,
O Lord, who have most ungratefully offended Thee; and since my
sins have a long time cried aloud to heaven for justice, why
should I now complain if I feel Thy hand upon me? No, my God, Thou
art just in all Thy ways; I have truly deserved Thy punishment,
and therefore I have no reason to complain of Thee, but only of my
own wickedness. But rebuke me not, O Lord, in Thy fury, nor
chastise me in Thy wrath; but have regard to my weakness. Thou
knowest how frail I am, that I am nothing but dust and ashes; deal
not with me, therefore, according to my sins, neither punish me
according to my iniquities; but according to the multitude of thy
most tender mercies, have compassion on me. Oh! Let Thy justice be
tempered with mercy, and let Thy heavenly grace come to my
assistance, to support me under my illness. Confirm my soul with
strength from above, that I may bear with a true Christian
patience all the uneasiness, pains, disquiets and difficulties of
my sickness, and that I may cheerfully accept them as the just
punishment of my offenses. Preserve me from all temptations, and
be Thou my defense against all the assaults of the enemy, that in
this illness I may in no way offend Thee; and if this is to be my
last, I beg of Thee so to direct me by Thy grace, that I may in no
way neglect or be deprived of those helps which Thou hast, in Thy
mercy, ordained for the good of my soul, to prepare it for its
passage into eternity; that being perfectly cleansed from all my
sins, I may believe in Thee, put my whole trust in Thee, love Thee
above all things, and through the merits of Thy death and passion,
be admitted into the company of the blessed, where I may praise
thee for ever. Amen.

Prayer of the Sick
to the Infant of Prague |
O
merciful Infant Jesus! I know of Your miraculous deeds for the
sick. How many diseases You cured during Your blessed life on
earth, and how many venerators of Your miraculous image ascribe to
You their recovery and deliverance from most painful and hopeless
maladies. I know, indeed, that a sinner like me has merited his
sufferings and has no right to ask for favors. But in view of the
innumerable graces and the miraculous cures granted even to the
greatest sinners through the veneration of Your holy infancy,
particularly in the miraculous statue of Prague or in
representations of it, I exclaim with the greatest assurance: most
loving, most pitiful Infant Jesus, You can cure me if You will! Do
not hesitate, O heavenly Physician, if it be Your will that I
recover from this present illness; extend Your most holy hands,
and by Your power take away all pain and infirmity, so that my
recovery may be due, not to natural remedies, but to You alone.
If, however, You in Your inscrutable wisdom have determined
otherwise, then at least restore my soul to perfect health, fill
me with heavenly consolation and blessing, that I may be like You,
O Jesus, in my sufferings, and may glorify Your providence until
You, at the death of my body, bestow on me eternal life. Amen.

Three O'clock
Prayer (3:00 Prayer)
Note: Three O'clock is the Hour of Our Lord's Death on the Cross
|
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Note: It is traditional for Catholics to recite the Lord's
Prayer each day at 3:00 p.m. Those who are devotees of Faustina's
'Divine Mercy' devotion may instead supplant the Lord's Prayer
given to us by Jesus in Holy Scripture with Faustina's 3:00 prayer
(below) which is based on her alleged private revelations.
Tradition-minded Catholics, however, may avoid this 'questionable
devotion' as Faustina - who admits her body smelled like a corpse
(in contrast to other saints who emitted pleasant fragrances) - is
known for a diary which contains factual errors, contradictions,
unfulfilled prophecies, and theological issues. For more
information on Faustina's 'Divine Mercy' devotion, please see our
publication: "What's Up With Faustina's Divine Mercy Devotion?
Unanswered Questions & Things You May Not Know"
here. Or, try online version (click
here). [Update: Also try second publication
here (online version
here) and subsequent follow up

You
expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls and
the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life,
unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty
Yourself out upon us. O Blood and water, which gushed forth from
the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You.
Amen.

BIG Book of Latin Activities For Catholics
Beginning - Intermediate (Vol. 1)
"Suitable For Children Or
Adults!" ~ "Perfect For Home Schoolers!"
+ + +
As many faithful Catholics already know,
the majestic
Latin language – the 'official language' of the Catholic Church –
promotes unity, helps safeguard the purity of doctrine, connects us with
our Catholic ancestors, allows us to pray in "one voice", and even ties
back to the inscription on the Cross which was written in Hebrew, Latin,
and Greek. The Latin language is still used today in the precious
treasure that is the
Traditional Latin ('Tridentine') Mass, in 'everyday speech' (much of
English is derived from Latin), in mottos, in specialized fields, and in
educational endeavors. It has been shown that the study of Latin brings
many benefits. "And, Latin is truly the language of heaven!"
If you enjoy Latin, you may be glad to know that
this full-sized (8.5" x 11"), tradition-minded publication features an
assortment of activity types related to Latin (including: word searches,
crosswords, coloring activities, challenges, fill-ins, spelling bee,
quizzes, unscrambles, true/false, multiple choice, matching, cross-offs,
circling, word associations, translation exercises, and more...), and
treats of various topics (including: common Latin words, Latin language
facts, Latin grammar, nouns & verbs, abbreviations,
phrases / sayings / mottos, prefixes, cardinal numbers, grammatical gender,
inflection, word roots, diacritics / accenting, pronunciation, Latin
prayers / hymns, Scripture verses, Catholic phrases, and more...).
