Thus says the LORD of hosts: Oppressed are the men of Israel, and with them the men of Judah;
All their captors hold them fast and refuse to let them go. Strong is their avenger, whose name is LORD of hosts;
He will defend their cause with success, and give rest to the earth, but unrest to those who live in Babylon.
[JER 50:33-34]
Every man is stupid, ignorant; every artisan is put to shame by his idol:
He molded a fraud, without breath of life. Nothingness are they, a ridiculous work, that will perish in their time of punishment. Not like these is the portion of Jacob, he is the creator of all things;
Israel is his very own tribe, LORD of hosts is his name. [JER
51:17-19]
For the destroyer comes upon her, (Babylon,) her heroes are captured, their bows broken;
The LORD is a God who requites, he will surely repay. I will make her princes and her wise men drunk, her governors, her prefects, and her warriors, so that they sleep an eternal sleep, never to awaken, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. [JER
51:56-57]
I called upon your name, O LORD, from the bottom of the pit; You heard me call, "Let not your ear be deaf to my cry for help!" You came to my aid when I called to you; you said, "Have no fear!" You defended me in mortal danger, you redeemed my life.
[LAM 3:55-58]
"And now, LORD, God of Israel, you who led your people out of the land of Egypt with your mighty hand, with signs and wonders and great might, and with your upraised arm, so that you have made for yourself a name till the present day: we have sinned, been impious, and violated, O LORD, our God, all your statutes. Let your anger be withdrawn from us, for we are left few in number among the nations to which you scattered us. Hear, O LORD, our prayer of supplication, and deliver us for your own sake: grant us favor in the presence of our captors, that the whole earth may know that you are the LORD, our God, and that Israel and his descendants bear your name." [BARUCH
2:11-15]
Jerusalem, take off your robe of mourning and misery; put on the splendor of glory from God forever: Wrapped in the cloak of justice from God, bear on your head the mitre that displays the glory of the eternal name. For God will show all the earth your splendor: you will be named by God forever the peace of justice, the glory of God's worship. [BARUCH
5:1-4]
As for you, house of Israel, thus says the Lord GOD: Come, each
one of you, destroy your idols! Then listen to me, and never again
profane my holy name with your gifts and your idols. [EZEK 20:39]
And you shall know that I am the LORD when I deal with you
thus, for my name's sake, and not according to your evil conduct
and corrupt actions, O house of Israel, says the Lord GOD. [EZEK
20:44]
I scattered them among the nations, dispersing them over foreign lands; according to their conduct and deeds I judged them. But when they came among the nations (wherever they came), they served to profane my holy name, because it was said of them: "These are the people of the LORD, yet they had to leave their land." So I have relented because of my holy name which the house of Israel profaned among the nations where they came. Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord GOD: Not for your sakes do I act, house of Israel, but for the sake of my holy name, which you profaned among the nations to which you came. I will prove the holiness of my great name, profaned among the nations, in whose midst you have profaned it. Thus the nations shall know that I am the LORD, says the Lord GOD, when in their sight I prove my holiness through you. For I will take you away from among the nations, gather you from all the foreign lands, and bring you back to your own land. I will sprinkle clean water upon you to cleanse you from all your impurities, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts. [EZEK
36:19-26]
I will make my holy name known among my people Israel; I will
no longer allow my holy name to be profaned. Thus the nations
shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. [EZEK 39:7]
Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: Now I will restore the
fortunes of Jacob and have pity on the whole house of Israel, and
I will be jealous for my holy name. [EZEK 39:25]
"Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom
and power are his." [DAN 2:20]
"Blessed are you, and praiseworthy, O Lord, the God of our
fathers, and glorious forever is your name." [DAN 3:26]
"And now we follow you with our whole heart, we fear you and we pray to you. Do not let us be put to shame, but deal with us in your kindness and great mercy. Deliver us by your wonders, and bring glory to your name, O Lord: Let all those be routed who inflict evils on your servants;
Let them be shamed and powerless, and their strength broken; Let them know that you are the Lord God, glorious over the whole world." [DAN
3:41-45]
"Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers,
praiseworthy and exalted above all forever; And blessed is your
holy and glorious name, praiseworthy and exalted above all for all
ages." [DAN 3:52]
"Now, O Lord, our God, who led your people out of the land of Egypt with a strong hand, and made a name for yourself even to this day, we have sinned, we are guilty. O Lord, in keeping with all your just deeds, let your anger and your wrath be turned away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain. On account of our sins and the crimes of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people have become the reproach of all our neighbors. Hear, therefore, O God, the prayer and petition of your servant; and for your own sake, O Lord, let your face shine upon your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, O my God, and listen; open your eyes and see our ruins and the city which bears your name. When we present our petition before you, we rely not on our just deeds, but on your great mercy. O Lord, hear! O Lord, pardon! O Lord, be attentive and act without delay, for your own sake, O my God, because this city and your people bear your name!" [DAN
9:15-19]
He contended with the angel and triumphed, entreating him with tears.
At Bethel he met God and there he spoke with him: The LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is his name! [HOSEA
12:5-6]
You shall eat and be filled, and shall praise the name of the
LORD, your God, Because he has dealt wondrously with you; my
people shall nevermore be put to shame. [JOEL 2:26]
Then everyone shall be rescued who calls on the name of the
LORD; For on Mount Zion there shall be a remnant, as the LORD has
said, And in Jerusalem survivors whom the LORD shall call. [JOEL
3:5]
Him who formed the mountains, and created the wind, and
declares to man his thoughts; Who made the dawn and the darkness,
and strides upon the heights of the earth: The LORD, the God of
hosts by name. [AMOS 4:13]
Seek the LORD, that you may live, lest he come upon the house of Joseph like a fire
That shall consume, with none to quench it for the house of Israel: He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns darkness into dawn, and darkens day into night;
Who summons the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the surface of the earth; Who flashes destruction upon the strong, and brings ruin upon the fortress; whose name is LORD. [AMOS
5:6,8-9]
The Lord GOD has sworn by his very self, say I, the LORD, the God of hosts:
I abhor the pride of Jacob, I hate his castles, and I give over the city with everything in it; Should there remain ten men in a single house, these shall die. Only a few shall be left to carry the dead out of the houses;
If one says to a man inside a house, "Is anyone with you?" and he answers, "No one,"
Then he shall say, "Silence!" for no one must mention the name of the LORD. Indeed, the LORD has given the command to shatter the great house to bits, and reduce the small house to rubble.
[AMOS 6:8-11]
I have built heaven, my upper chamber, and established my vault
over the earth; I summon the waters of the sea and pour them upon
the surface of the earth, I, the LORD by name. [AMOS 9:6]
That they may conquer what is left of Edom and all the nations
that shall bear my name, say I, the LORD, who will do this. [AMOS
9:12]
For all the peoples walk each in the name of its god, But we
will walk in the name of the LORD, our God, forever and ever.
[MICAH 4:5]
He shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of
the LORD, in the majestic name of the LORD, his God; And they
shall remain, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the
earth [Taken from MICAH 5:3]
Hark! the LORD cries to the city. (It is wisdom to fear your
name!) [Taken from MICAH 6:9]
Therefore, wait for me, says the LORD, against the day when I arise as accuser;
For it is my decision to gather together the nations, to assemble the kingdoms,
In order to pour out upon them my wrath, all my blazing anger; For in the fire of my jealousy shall all the earth be consumed. For then I will change and purify the lips of the peoples,
That they all may call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one
accord [ZEPH 3:8-9]
On that day You need not be ashamed of all your deeds, your rebellious actions against me;
For then will I remove from your midst the proud braggarts, And you shall no longer exalt yourself on my holy mountain. But I will leave as a remnant in your midst a people humble and lowly,
Who shall take refuge in the name of the LORD; the remnant of Israel.
They shall do no wrong and speak no lies; Nor shall there be found in their mouths a deceitful
tongue [Taken from ZEPH 3:11-13]
Then he said to me: "This is the curse which is to go forth over the whole earth; in accordance with it shall every thief be swept away, and in accordance with it shall every perjurer be expelled from here. I will send it forth, says the LORD of hosts, and it shall come into the house of the thief, or into the house of him who perjures himself with my name; it shall lodge within his house, consuming it, timber and stones." [ZECH
5:3-4]
I will bring the one third through fire, and I will refine them
as silver is refined, and I will test them as gold is tested. They
shall call upon my name, and I will hear them. I will say,
"They are my people," and they shall say, "The LORD
is my God." [ZECH 13:9]
The LORD shall become king over the whole earth; on that day
the LORD shall be the only one, and his name the only one. [ZECH
14:9]
For from the rising of the sun, even to its setting, my name is
great among the nations... great is my name among the nations,
says the LORD of hosts. [Taken from MAL 1:11]
For a great King am I,
says the LORD of hosts, and my name will be feared among the
nations. [Taken from MAL 1:14]
And now, O priests, this commandment is for you: If you do not listen, And if you do not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name, says the LORD of hosts,
I will send a curse upon you and of your blessing I will make a curse.
Yes, I have already cursed it, because you do not lay it to heart. [MAL
2:1-2]
Then they who fear the LORD spoke with one another, and the
LORD listened attentively; And a record book was written before
him of those who fear the LORD and trust in his name. [MAL 3:16]
Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to
Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the
Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the
Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,"
which means "God is with us." [MT 1:18-23]
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?' Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you.
Depart from me, you evildoers.'"
[MT 7:21-23]
You will be hated by all because of my name, but whoever
endures to the end will be saved. [MT 10:22]
Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me. [MT
18:4-5]
"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there
am I in the midst of them." [MT 18:20]
Jesus said to them, "Amen, I say to you that you who have followed me, in the new age, when the Son of Man is seated on his throne of glory, will yourselves sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first."
[MT 19:28-30]
The very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and strewed them on the road. The crowds preceding him and those following kept
crying out and saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord;
hosanna in the highest." [MT 21:8-9]
"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her young under her wings, but you were unwilling! Behold, your house will be abandoned, desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
[MT 23:37-39]
Jesus said to them in reply, "See that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Messiah,' and they will deceive many." [MT
24:4-5]
Then they will hand you over to persecution, and they will kill
you. You will be hated by all nations because of my name. [MT
24:9]
"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." [MT
28:19-20]
"Whoever receives one child such as this in my name,
receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the one
who sent me." [MK 9:37]
John said to him, "Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us." Jesus replied, "Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us. Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward."
[MK 9:38-41]
So they brought the colt to Jesus and put their cloaks over it. And he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. Those preceding him as well as those following kept
crying out: "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is to come!
Hosanna in the highest!"
[MK 11:7-10]
Many will come in my name saying, 'I am he,' and they will
deceive many. [MK 13:6]
You will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who
perseveres to the end will be saved. [MK 13:13]
"These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents (with their hands), and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." [MK
16:17-18]
When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was
named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was
conceived in the womb. [LK 2:21]
An argument arose among the disciples about which of them was the greatest. Jesus realized the intention of their hearts and took a child and placed it by his side and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest."
[LK 9:46-48]
The seventy (-two) returned rejoicing, and said, "Lord,
even the demons are subject to us because of your name." [LK
10:17]
"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were unwilling! Behold, your house will be abandoned. (But) I tell you, you will not see me until (the time comes when) you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
[LK 13:34-35]
So they brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks over the colt, and helped Jesus to mount. As he rode along, the people were spreading their cloaks on the road; and now as he was approaching the slope of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of his disciples began to praise God aloud with joy for all the mighty deeds they had seen. They proclaimed:
"Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest."
[LK 19:35-38]
He answered, "See that you not be deceived, for many will
come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and 'The time has come.' Do
not follow them!" [LK 21:8]
Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.
Before all this happens, however, they will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. It will lead to your giving testimony.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives."
[LK 21:10-19]
He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man's decision but of God.
[JN 1:11-13]
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does
not believe has already been condemned, because he has not
believed in the name of the only Son of God. [JN 3:18]
I came in the name of my Father, but you do not accept me; yet
if another comes in his own name, you will accept him. [JN 5:43]
So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, "How long are you going to keep us in suspense?
If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly." Jesus answered them, "I told you
and you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name testify to me. But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me." [JN
10:24-27]
On the next day, when the great crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took palm branches and went out to meet him, and
cried out: "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, (even) the king of Israel."
[JN 12:12-13]
[Jesus said,] "Father, glorify your name." Then a
voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it and will glorify
it again." [Taken from JN 12:28]
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father. And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. [JN
14:11-14]
The Advocate, the Holy Spirit that the Father will send in my
name - he will teach you everything and remind you of all that (I)
told you. [JN 14:26]
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed
you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you
ask the Father in my name he may give you. [JN 15:16]
"If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you,
'No slave is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name,
because they do not know the one who sent me." [JN 15:18-21]
"So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.
Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
I have told you this in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures but I will tell you clearly about the Father. On that day you will ask in my name, and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you. For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have come to believe that I came from
God." [JN 16:22-27]
And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the
world, while I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your
name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we
are. [JN 17:11]
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may (come to) believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.
[JN 20:30-31]
No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 'It will come to pass in the last days,' God says, 'that I will pour out a portion of my spirit upon all flesh.
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. Indeed, upon my servants and my handmaids I will pour out a portion of my spirit in those days, and they shall prophesy. And I will work wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below: blood, fire, and a cloud of smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the great and splendid day of the Lord,1 and it shall be that everyone shall be saved who calls on the name of the Lord.' [ACTS 2:16-21]
Peter (said) to them, "Repent and be baptized, every one
of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." [ACTS
2:38]
Now Peter and John were going up to the temple area for the three o'clock hour of
prayer. And a man crippled from birth was carried and placed at the gate of the temple called "the Beautiful Gate" every day to beg for alms from the people who entered the temple. When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked for alms. But Peter looked intently at him, as did John, and said, "Look at us." He paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them. Peter said, "I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, (rise and) walk." Then Peter took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles grew strong. He leaped up, stood, and walked around, and went into the temple with them, walking and jumping and praising God. [ACTS
3:1-8]
If we are being examined today about a good deed done to a cripple, namely, by what means he was saved, then all of you and all the people of Israel should know that it was in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead; in his name this man stands before you healed. [ACTS
4:9-10]
So they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, and conferred with one another, saying, "What are we to do with these men? Everyone living in Jerusalem knows that a remarkable sign was done through them, and we cannot deny it. But so that it may not be spread any further among the people, let us give them a stern warning never again to speak to anyone in this name." So they called them back and ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. Peter and John, however, said to them in reply, "Whether it is right in the sight of God for us to obey you rather than God, you be the judges. It is impossible for us not to speak about what we have seen and heard." After threatening them further, they released them, finding no way to punish them, on account of the people who were all praising God for what had happened. For the man on whom this sign of healing had been done was over forty years old. [ACTS
4:15-22]
"And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and enable your servants to speak your word with all boldness, as you stretch forth (your) hand to heal, and signs and wonders are done through the name of your holy servant Jesus." As they prayed, the place where they were gathered shook, and they were all filled with the
Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. [ACTS
4:29-31]
"So now I tell you, have nothing to do with these men, and let them go. For if this endeavor or this activity is of human origin, it will destroy itself. But if it comes from God, you will not be able to destroy them; you may even find yourselves fighting against God." They were persuaded by him. After recalling the apostles, they had them flogged, ordered them to stop speaking in the name of Jesus, and dismissed them. So they left the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they had been found worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name. And all day long, both at the temple and in their homes, they did not stop teaching and proclaiming the Messiah, Jesus.
[ACTS 5:38-42]
A man named Simon used to practice magic in the city and astounded the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great. All of them, from the least to the greatest, paid attention to him, saying, "This man is the 'Power of God' that is called 'Great.'" They paid attention to him because he had astounded them by his magic for a long time, but once they began to believe Philip as he preached the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, men and women alike were baptized. Even Simon himself believed and, after being baptized, became devoted to Philip; and when he saw the signs and mighty deeds that were occurring, he was astounded. [ACTS
8:9-13]
Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had
accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went
down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit,
for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been
baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on
them and they received the Holy Spirit. [ACTS 8:14-17]
There was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias, and the Lord
said to him in a vision, "Ananias." He answered,
"Here I am, Lord." The Lord said to him, "Get up
and go to the street called Straight and ask at the house of Judas
for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is there praying, and (in a
vision) he has seen a man named Ananias come in and lay (his)
hands on him, that he may regain his sight." But Ananias
replied, "Lord, I have heard from many sources about this
man, what evil things he has done to your holy ones in
Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to
imprison all who call upon your name." But the Lord said to
him, "Go, for this man is a chosen instrument of mine to
carry my name before Gentiles, kings, and Israelites, and I will
show him what he will have to suffer for my name." [ACTS 9:10-16]
When he arrived in Jerusalem he tried to join the disciples,
but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a
disciple. Then Barnabas took charge of him and brought him to the
apostles, and he reported to them how on the way he had seen the
Lord and that he had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had
spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus. He moved about freely with
them in Jerusalem, and spoke out boldly in the name of the Lord.
[ACTS 9:26-28]
While Peter was still speaking these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the
word. The circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the
Holy Spirit should have been poured out on the Gentiles also, for they could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying God. Then Peter responded, "Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people, who have received the
Holy Spirit even as we have?" He ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for a few days.
[ACTS 10:44-49]
After they had fallen silent, James responded, "My brothers, listen to me. Symeon has described how God first concerned himself with acquiring from among the Gentiles a people for his name. The words of the prophets agree with this, as is written: 'After this I shall return and rebuild the fallen hut of David; from its ruins I shall rebuild it and raise it up again, so that the rest of humanity may seek out the Lord, even all the Gentiles on whom my name is invoked.
Thus says the Lord who accomplishes these things, known from of old.' It is my judgment, therefore, that we ought to stop troubling the Gentiles who turn to
God" [Taken from ACTS 15:13-19]
Since we have heard that some of our number (who went out) without any mandate from us have upset you with their teachings and disturbed your peace of mind, we have with one accord decided to choose representatives and to send them to you along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, who have dedicated their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. [ACTS
15:24-26]
As we were going to the place of prayer, we met a slave girl with an oracular spirit, who used to bring a large profit to her owners through her fortune-telling. She began to follow Paul and us, shouting, "These people are slaves of the Most High God, who proclaim to you a way of salvation." She did this for many days. Paul became annoyed, turned, and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." Then it came out at that moment.
[ACTS 16:16-18]
While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior of the country and came (down) to Ephesus where he found some disciples. He said to them, "Did you receive the
Holy Spirit when you became believers?" They answered him, "We have never even heard that there is a
Holy Spirit." He said, "How were you baptized?" They replied, "With the baptism of John." Paul then said, "John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus." When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul laid (his) hands on them, the
Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. [ACTS
19:1-6]
Then some itinerant Jewish exorcists tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those with evil spirits, saying, "I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches." When the seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish high priest, tried to do this, the evil spirit said to them in reply, "Jesus I recognize, Paul I know, but who are you?" The person with the evil spirit then sprang at them and subdued them all. He so overpowered them that they fled naked and wounded from that house. When this became known to all the Jews and Greeks who lived in Ephesus, fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in great esteem. Many of those who had become believers came forward and openly acknowledged their former practices. [ACTS
19:13-18]
We had been there several days when a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. He came up to us, took Paul's belt, bound his own feet and hands with it, and said, "Thus says the
Holy Spirit: This is the way the Jews will bind the owner of this belt in Jerusalem, and they will hand him over to the
Gentiles." When we heard this, we and the local residents begged him not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul replied, "What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? I am prepared not only to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus." Since he would not be dissuaded we let the matter rest, saying, "The Lord's will be
done." [ACTS
21:10-14]
"Why is it thought unbelievable among you that God raises the dead? I myself once thought that I had to do many things against the name of Jesus the Nazorean, and I did so in Jerusalem. I imprisoned many of the holy ones with the authorization I received from the chief priests, and when they were to be put to death I cast my vote against them. Many times, in synagogue after synagogue, I punished them in an attempt to force them to blaspheme; I was so enraged against them that I pursued them even to foreign cities.
On one such occasion I was traveling to Damascus with the authorization and commission of the chief priests. At midday, along the way, O king, I saw a light from the sky, brighter than the sun, shining around me and my traveling companions. We all fell to the ground and I heard a voice saying to me in Hebrew, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the
goad.' And I said, 'Who are you, sir?' And the Lord replied, 'I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. Get up now, and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness of what you have seen (of me) and what you will be
shown. I shall deliver you from this people and from the Gentiles to whom I send you, to open their eyes that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may obtain forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been consecrated by faith in me.'" [ACTS
26:8-18]
You who boast of the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? For, as it is written, "Because of you the name of God is reviled among the
Gentiles." [ROM
2:23-24]
For the scripture says to Pharaoh, "This is why I have
raised you up, to show my power through you that my name may be
proclaimed throughout the earth." [ROM 9:17]
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all who call upon him. For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." But how can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring (the) good
news!" [ROM
10:12-15]
For I say that Christ became a minister of the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, to confirm the promises to the patriarchs, but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his
mercy. As it is written: "Therefore, I will praise you among the Gentiles and sing praises to your name." [ROM
15:8-9]
Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, to the church of God that is in Corinth, to you who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy, with all those everywhere who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. [1COR
1:1-2]
I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that all of you agree in what you say, and that there be no
divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and
in the same purpose. [1COR 1:10]
It is widely reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of a kind not found even among
pagans - a man living with his father's wife. And you are inflated with pride.
Should you not rather have been sorrowful? The one who did this deed should be expelled from your midst. I, for my part, although absent in body but present in spirit, have already, as if present, pronounced judgment on the one who has committed this deed, in the name of (our) Lord Jesus: when you have gathered together and I am with you in spirit with the power of the Lord Jesus, you are to deliver this man to Satan
for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. Your boasting is not appropriate. Do you not know that a little yeast
leavens all the dough? [1COR
5:1-6]
Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor practicing homosexuals nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God. That is what some of you used to be; but now you have had yourselves washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. [1COR
6:9-11]
Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. And do not get drunk on wine, in which lies debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another (in) psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and playing to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father. [EPH
5:17-20]
Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ
Jesus, Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be
grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a
cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. [PHIL
2:5-11]
And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through
him. [COL 3:17]
To this end, we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and powerfully bring to fulfillment every good purpose and every effort of faith, that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, in accord with the grace of our God and Lord Jesus Christ. [2THES
1:11-12]
We instruct you, brothers, in the name of (our) Lord Jesus
Christ, to shun any brother who conducts himself in a disorderly
way and not according to the tradition they received from us.
[2THES 3:6]
Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands, bearing this
inscription, "The Lord knows those who are his"; and,
"Let everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord avoid
evil." [2TM 2:19]
For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love
you have demonstrated for his name by having served and continuing
to serve the holy ones. [HEB 6:10]
For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the one that is to come. Through him (then) let us continually offer God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. [HEB
13:14-15]
Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord.
See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth,
being patient with it until it receives the early and the late
rains. You too must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the
coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not complain, brothers, about
one another, that you may not be judged. Behold, the Judge is
standing before the gates. Take as an example of hardship and
patience, brothers, the prophets who spoke in the name of the
Lord. Indeed we call blessed those who have persevered. You have
heard of the perseverance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of
the Lord, because "the Lord is compassionate and
merciful." [JMS 5:7-11]
Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint (him) with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be
forgiven. [JMS
5:14-15]
If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. But let no one among you be made to suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as an intriguer. But whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be ashamed but glorify God because of the name.
[1PT 4:14-16]
(Now) this is how we shall know that we belong to the truth and reassure our hearts before him in whatever our hearts condemn, for God is greater than our hearts and knows everything. Beloved, if (our) hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence in God and receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And his commandment is this: we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another just as he commanded us. Those who keep his commandments remain in him, and he in them, and the way we know that he remains in us is from the Spirit that he gave us. [1JN
3:19-24]
I write these things to you so that you may know that you have
eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God. [1JN
5:13]
"To the angel of the church in Ephesus, write this: 'The one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks in the midst of the seven gold lampstands says this: "I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot tolerate the wicked; you have tested those who call themselves apostles but are not, and discovered that they are
impostors. Moreover, you have endurance and have suffered for my name, and you have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: you have lost the love you had at first. Realize how far you have fallen. Repent, and do the works you did at first. Otherwise, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent."'" [RV
2:1-5]
"To the angel of the church in Pergamum, write this: 'The one with the sharp two-edged sword says this: "I know that you live where Satan's throne
is, and yet you hold fast to my name and have not denied your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was martyred among you, where Satan lives. Yet I have a few things against you."'"
[Taken from RV 2:12-14]
"The victor will thus be dressed in white, and I
will never erase his name from the book of life but will
acknowledge his name in the presence of my Father and of his
angels." [RV 3:5]
"I know your works (behold, I have left an open door before you, which no one can close). You have limited strength, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name. Behold, I will make those of the assembly of Satan who claim to be Jews and are not, but are lying, behold I will make them come and fall prostrate at your feet, and they will realize that I love you." [RV
3:8-9]
I am coming quickly. Hold fast to what you have, so that no one may take your crown. "The victor I will make into a pillar
in the temple of my God, and he will never leave it again. On him I will inscribe the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God, as well as my new name."
[RV 3:11-12]
The beast was given a mouth uttering proud boasts and blasphemies, and it was given authority to act for forty-two months.
It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling and those who dwell in heaven. It was also allowed to wage war against the holy ones and conquer them, and it was granted authority over every tribe, people, tongue, and nation.
[RV 13:5-7]
Then I looked and there was the Lamb standing on Mount Zion,
and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand who had his name
and his Father's name written on their foreheads. [RV 14:1]
"Who will not fear you, Lord, or glorify your name? For you
alone are holy. All the nations will come and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed." [RV 15:4]
People were burned by the scorching heat and blasphemed the
name of God who had power over these plagues, but they did not
repent or give him glory. [RV 16:9]
Then I saw the heavens opened, and there was a white horse; its rider was (called) "Faithful and True." He judges and wages war in righteousness. His eyes were (like) a fiery flame, and on his head were many diadems. He had a name
inscribed that no one knows except himself. He wore a cloak that had been dipped in
blood, and his name was called the Word of God. The armies of heaven followed him, mounted on white horses and wearing clean white linen. Out of his mouth came a sharp sword to strike the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod, and he himself will tread out in the wine press
the wine of the fury and wrath of God the almighty. He has a name written on his cloak and on his thigh, "King of kings and Lord of lords."
