The Angel who has delivered me from all harm, bless
these boys That in them my name be recalled, and the names of my
fathers, Abraham and Isaac, And they may become teeming multitudes
upon the earth! [GEN 48:16] There an angel of the LORD appeared to him in fire
flaming out of a bush. As he looked on, he was surprised to see
that the bush, though on fire, was not consumed. [EX 3:2]
See, I am sending an angel before you, to guard
you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared. [EX 23:20]
Now, go and lead the people whither I have told you.
My angel will go before you. When it is time for me to punish, I
will punish them for their sin. [EX 32:34]
Exult with him, you heavens, glorify him, all you
angels of God; For he avenges the blood of his servants and purges
his people's land. [DEUT 32:43]
When the angel of the LORD had made these threats to
all the Israelites, the people wept aloud [JUDG 2:4]
An angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said
to her, "Though you are barren and have had no children, yet
you will conceive and bear a son." [JUDG 13:3]
The angel of the LORD answered him, "Why do you
ask my name, which is mysterious?" [JUDG 13:18]
God also sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem; but
as he was on the point of destroying it, the LORD saw and decided
against the calamity, and said to the destroying angel,
"Enough now! Stay your hand!" The angel of the LORD was
then standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. [1CHRON 21:15]
Then the LORD gave orders to the angel to return
his sword to its sheath. [1CHRON 21:27]
Tobiah went to look for someone acquainted with the
roads who would travel with him to Media. As soon as he went out,
he found the angel Raphael standing before him, though he did not
know that this was an angel of God. [TOBIT 5:4]
So, no such thought; do not worry about them, my
love. For a good angel will go with him, his journey will be
successful, and he will return unharmed. [TOBIT 5:22]
I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who enter and
serve before the Glory of the Lord. [TOBIT 12:15]
Sovereign of the heavens, send a good angel now to
spread fear and dread before us. [2MACC 15:23]
If then there be for him an angel, one out of a
thousand, a mediator, To show him what is right for him and bring
the man back to justice, He will take pity on him and say, Deliver him from going down to the pit; I have found him a ransom."
[JOB 33:23-24]
The angel of the LORD, who encamps with them, delivers
all who fear God. [PS 34:8]
For God commands the angels to guard you in all your
ways. [PS 91:11]
Bless the LORD, all you angels, mighty in strength
and attentive, obedient to every command. [PS 103:20]
Praise him, all you angels; give praise, all you
hosts. [PS 148:2]
My angel is with you, and he is the custodian of
your lives. [Taken from BARUCH 6:6]
Angels of the Lord, bless the Lord, praise and exalt
him above all forever. [DAN 3:58]
My God has sent his angel and closed the lions' mouths
so that they have not hurt me. For I have been found innocent
before him; neither to you have I done any harm, O king! [DAN 6:23]
To the angel who spoke with me, the LORD replied with
comforting words. [ZECH 1:13]
Then the angel who spoke with me advanced, and another
angel came out to meet him [Taken from ZECH 2:7]
Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing
before the angel of the LORD, while Satan stood at his right hand
to accuse him. And the angel of the LORD said to Satan, "May the
LORD rebuke you, Satan; may the LORD who has chosen Jerusalem
rebuke you! Is not this man a brand snatched from the fire?" The angel of the LORD then gave Joshua
(an) assurance [Taken from ZECH 3:1-2,6]
I asked the angel who spoke with me, "What are
these, my lord?"
The angel said to me in reply, "These are the
four winds of the heavens, which are coming forth after being
reviewed by the LORD of all the earth." [ZECH 6:4-5]
When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the
Holy Spirit.
Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly.
Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the
Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in
her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,"
which means "God is with us." When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.
[Taken from MT 1:18-24]
When they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord
appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child
and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you.
Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him." [MT 2:13]
When Herod had died, behold, the angel of the Lord
appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child's life are
dead." He rose, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel.
[MT 2:19-21]
Then the devil left (Jesus) and, behold, angels came and
ministered to him. [Taken from MT 4:11]
(Jesus') disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."
He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world,
the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one,
and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age,
and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned (up) with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.
The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom
all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear."
[Taken from MT 13:36-43]
Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will
go out and separate the wicked from the righteous [MT 13:49]
For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his
Father's glory, and then he will repay everyone according to his
conduct. [MT 16:27]
(Jesus said,) "See that you do not despise one of these little
ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look
upon the face of my heavenly Father." [Taken from MT 18:10]
At the resurrection they neither marry nor are given
in marriage but are like the angels in heaven. [MT 22:30]
And he will send out his angels with a trumpet blast,
and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end
of the heavens to the other. [MT 24:31]
But of that day and hour no one knows, neither
the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. [MT 24:36]
When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all
the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne [Taken
from MT 25:31]
Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from
me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and
his angels.' [MT 25:41]
Do you think that I cannot call upon my Father and he
will not provide me at this moment with more than twelve legions
of angels? [MT 26:53]
And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel
of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the
stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as
snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men.
Then the angel said to the women in reply, "Do not
be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay."
[MT 28:2-6]
(Jesus) remained in the desert for forty days, tempted
by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to
him. [Taken from MK 1:13]
Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this
faithless and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of
when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels. [MK 8:38]
When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor
are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven. [MK 12:25]
He will send out the angels and gather (his)
elect from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of
the sky. [Taken from MK 13:27]
But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither
the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. [MK 13:32]
The angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right of the altar of incense.
Zechariah was troubled by what he saw, and fear came upon him. But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid,
Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth
will bear you a son, and you shall name him John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of (the) Lord. He will drink neither wine nor strong drink.
He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb,
and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.
He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers toward children and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people fit for the Lord."
Then Zechariah said to the angel, "How shall I
know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in
years." And the angel said to him in reply, "I am Gabriel,
who stand before God. I was sent to speak to you and to announce
to you this good news. But now you will be speechless and unable to talk
until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at their proper time."
[Taken from LK 1:11-20]
And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God
into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a
man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's
name was Mary. And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail,
full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among
women. Who having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought
with herself what manner of salutation this should be. And the
angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with
God. Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth
a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and
shall be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God shall
give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign
in the house of Jacob for ever. And of his kingdom there shall be
no end. And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done,
because I know not man? And the angel answering, said to her: The
Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the most High
shall overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shall be
born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And behold thy cousin
Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this
is the sixth month with her that is called barren: Because no word
shall be impossible with God. And Mary said: Behold the handmaid
of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word. And the angel
departed from her. [LK 1:26-38]
Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields
and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the
Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them,
"Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of
great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city
of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.
And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped
in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." And suddenly
there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel,
praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest and on
earth peace to those on whom his favor rests." When the
angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one
another, "Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing
that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us." [LK
2:8-15]
I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others
the Son of Man will acknowledge before the angels of God. But whoever denies me before others will be denied
before the angels of God. [LK 12:8-9]
In just the same way, I tell you, there will be
rejoicing among the angels of God over one sinner who
repents. [LK 15:10]
When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels
to the bosom of Abraham. [Taken from LK 16:22]
They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and
they are the children of God because they are the ones who will
rise. [LK 20:36]
And to strengthen (Jesus) an angel from heaven appeared
to him. [Taken from LK 22:43]
And he said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you
will see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and
descending on the Son of Man." [JN 1:51]
But Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken my Lord, and I don't know where they laid him.
[JN 20:11-13]
But during the night, the angel of the Lord opened
the doors of the prison, led them out, and said, "Go and take your place in the temple area, and tell the people everything about this life."
[ACTS 5:19-20]
All those who sat in the Sanhedrin looked intently at (Stephen)
and saw that his face was like the face of an angel. [Taken from ACTS 6:15]
It was this Moses who said to the Israelites, 'God will raise up for you, from among your own kinsfolk, a prophet like
me.' It was he who, in the assembly in the desert, was
with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai and with our
ancestors, and he received living utterances to hand on to us. [ACTS
7:37-38]
You received the law as transmitted by angels, but
you did not observe it. [ACTS 7:53]
Then the angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, "Get
up and head south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to
Gaza, the desert route." [ACTS 8:26]
One afternoon about three o'clock, he saw plainly in
a vision an angel of God come in to him and say to him,
"Cornelius." He looked intently at him and, seized with fear, said, "What is it, sir?" He said to him, "Your prayers and almsgiving have ascended as a memorial offering before God.
Now send some men to Joppa and summon one Simon who is called Peter.
He is staying with another Simon, a tanner, who has a house by the sea."
When the angel who spoke to him had left, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier
from his staff, explained everything to them, and sent them to Joppa.
[ACTS 10:3-8]
They answered, "Cornelius, a centurion, an
upright and God-fearing man, respected by the whole Jewish nation,
was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and to
hear what you have to say." [ACTS 10:22]
He related to us how he had seen (the) angel
standing in his house, saying, 'Send someone to Joppa and summon
Simon, who is called Peter, who will speak words to you by which you and all your household will be saved.'
[ACTS 11:13-14]
Suddenly the angel of the Lord stood by him and a
light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and awakened
him, saying, "Get up quickly." The chains fell from his
wrists. The angel said to him, "Put on your belt and
your sandals." He did so. Then he said to him, "Put on
your cloak and follow me." So he followed him out, not realizing that what was
happening through the angel was real; he thought he was seeing a
vision. They passed the first guard, then the second, and came to the iron gate leading out to the city, which opened for them by itself. They emerged and made their way down an alley, and suddenly the angel left him.
Then Peter recovered his senses and said, "Now
I know for certain that (the) Lord sent his angel and rescued me
from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people had
been expecting." [ACTS 12:7-11]
At once the angel of the Lord struck (Herod) down
because he did not ascribe the honor to God, and he was eaten by
worms and breathed his last. [Taken from ACTS 12:23]
For last night an angel of the God to whom (I)
belong and whom I serve stood by me and said, 'Do not be afraid, Paul. You are destined to stand before Caesar; and behold, for your sake, God has granted safety to all who are sailing with you.'
Therefore, keep up your courage, men; I trust in God that it will turn out as I have been told.
We are destined to run aground on some island." [ACTS 27:23-26]
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor
angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things,
nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
[ROM 8:38-39]
For as I see it, God has exhibited us apostles as the
last of all, like people sentenced to death, since we have become
a spectacle to the world, to angels and human beings alike. [1COR 4:9]
Do you not know that we will judge angels? Then why
not everyday matters? [1COR 6:3]
For this reason a woman should have a sign of
authority on her head, because of the angels. [Taken from 1COR 11:10]
If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not
have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. [1COR 13:1]
For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, who masquerade as apostles of Christ.
And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an
angel of light. [2COR 11:13-14]
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach
(to you) a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let
that one be accursed! [GAL 1:8]
Why, then, the law? It was added for transgressions,
until the descendant came to whom the promise had been made; it
was promulgated by angels at the hand of a mediator. [GAL 3:19]
For the Lord himself, with a word of command, with
the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, will come
down from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. [1THES 4:16]
For it is surely just on God's part to repay with afflictions
those who are afflicting you, and to grant rest along with us to
you who are undergoing afflictions, at the revelation of the Lord
Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels, in blazing fire,
inflicting punishment on those who do not acknowledge God and on
those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay
the penalty of eternal ruin, separated from the presence of the
Lord and from the glory of his power, when he comes to be
glorified among his holy ones and to be marveled at on that day
among all who have believed, for our testimony to you was
believed. [2THES 1:6-10]
In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets;
in these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe,
who is the refulgence of his glory, the very imprint of his being,
and who sustains all things by his mighty word. When he had accomplished purification from sins,
he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high, as far superior to the angels as the name he has
inherited is more excellent than theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say: "You
are my son; this day I have begotten you"? Or again: "I
will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me"? And again, when he leads the first-born into the world,
he says: "Let all the angels of God worship him." Of the angels he says: "He makes his angels winds
and his ministers a fiery flame"; but of the Son: "Your throne, O God,
stands forever and ever; and a righteous scepter is the scepter of your kingdom.
You loved justice and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions"; and:
"At the beginning, O Lord, you established the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; and they will all grow old like a garment.
You will roll them up like a cloak, and like a garment they will be changed.
But you are the same, and your years will have no end." But to which of the angels has he ever said: "Sit
at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool"? [HEB
1:1-13]
For it was not to angels that he subjected the world to come, of
which we are speaking. Instead, someone has testified somewhere: "What is man that you are mindful of him, or the son of man that you care for him? You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor, subjecting all things under his feet."
In "subjecting" all things (to him), he left nothing not "subject to him." Yet at present we do not see "all things subject to
him," but we do see Jesus "crowned with glory and honor" because he suffered death, he who "for a little while" was made "lower than the angels," that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
[HEB 2:5-9]
Surely he did not help angels but rather the descendants of
Abraham; therefore, he had to become like his brothers in every
way, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before
God to expiate the sins of the people. Because he himself was
tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are
being tested. [HEB 2:16-18]
No, you have approached Mount Zion and the city of
the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in
festal gathering, and the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven,
and God the judge of all, and the spirits of the just made perfect, and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled blood that speaks more eloquently
than that of Abel. See that you do not reject the one who speaks. For if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much more in our case if we turn away from the one who warns from heaven.
[HEB 12:22-25]
Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have
unknowingly entertained angels. [HEB 13:2]
It was revealed to them that they were serving not
themselves but you with regard to the things that have now been
announced to you by those who preached the good news to you
(through) the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which
angels longed to look. [1PT 1:12]
(Jesus Christ) has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of
God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to him. [Taken
from 1PT 3:22]
God did not spare the angels when they sinned,
but condemned them to the chains of Tartarus and handed them over
to be kept for judgment [Taken from 2PT 2:4]
Angels, despite their superior strength and
power, do not bring a reviling judgment against them from the
Lord. [Taken from 2PT 2:11]
The angels too, who did not keep to their own domain
but deserted their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains,
in gloom, for the judgment of the great day. [JUDE 1:6]
Yet the archangel Michael, when he argued with the
devil in a dispute over the body of Moses, did not venture to
pronounce a reviling judgment upon him but said, "May the
Lord rebuke you!" [JUDE 1:9]
Special note: There are many references to angels in the
Book of Revelation. The following is a sampling of some of
these references. Please refer to your appropriate Catholic bible for full text
of Revelation.
The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to him,
to show his servants what must happen soon. He made it known by
sending his angel to his servant John, who gives witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ by reporting what he saw.
[RV 1:1-2]
This is the secret meaning of the seven stars you saw
in my right hand, and of the seven gold lampstands: the seven
stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven
lampstands are the seven churches. [RV 1:20]
Then I saw a mighty angel who proclaimed in a loud
voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its
seals?" [RV 5:1]
I looked again and heard the voices of many angels who
surrounded the throne and the living creatures and the elders.
They were countless in number, and they cried out in a loud voice:
"Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and glory and blessing."
[RV 5:11-12]
After this I saw four angels standing at the four
corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth so
that no wind could blow on land or sea or against any tree. Then I saw another angel come up from the East, holding
the seal of the living God. He cried out in a loud voice to the
four angels who were given power to damage the land and the sea, "Do not damage the land or the sea or the trees until we put the seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God."
[RV 7:1-3]
All the angels stood around the throne and around the
elders and the four living creatures. They prostrated themselves
before the throne, worshiped God, and exclaimed: "Amen. Blessing and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving, honor, power, and might be to our God forever and ever. Amen."
[RV 7:11-12]
And I saw that the seven angels who stood before God
were given seven trumpets. Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a
gold censer. He was given a great quantity of incense to offer,
along with the prayers of all the holy ones, on the gold altar
that was before the throne. The smoke of the incense along with the prayers of the
holy ones went up before God from the hand of the angel. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with burning
coals from the altar, and hurled it down to the earth. There were
peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an
earthquake. The seven angels who were holding the seven trumpets
prepared to blow them. When the first one blew his trumpet, there came hail and fire mixed with blood, which was hurled down to the earth. A third of the land was burned up, along with a third of the trees and all green
grass. When the second angel blew his trumpet, something like a large burning mountain was hurled into the sea. A third of the sea turned to blood,
a third of the creatures living in the sea died, and a third of the ships were wrecked.
When the third angel blew his trumpet, a large star burning like a torch fell from the sky. It fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.
The star was called "Wormwood," and a third of all the water turned to wormwood. Many people died from this water, because it was made bitter.
When the fourth angel blew his trumpet, a third of the sun, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them became dark. The day lost its light for a third of the time, as did the night.
Then I looked again and heard an eagle flying high overhead cry out in a loud voice, "Woe! Woe! Woe
to the inhabitants of the earth from the rest of the trumpet blasts that the three angels are about to blow!"
[RV 8:2-13]
Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star
that had fallen from the sky to the earth. It was given the key
for the passage to the abyss. [RV 9:1]
Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a
voice coming from the (four) horns of the gold altar before God, telling the sixth angel who held the trumpet,
"Release the four angels who are bound at the banks of the
great river Euphrates." So the four angels were released, who were prepared for
this hour, day, month, and year to kill a third of the human race.
[RV 9:13-15]
Then I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven
wrapped in a cloud, with a halo around his head; his face was like
the sun and his feet were like pillars of fire. In his hand he held a small scroll that had been opened. He placed his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the
land, and then he cried out in a loud voice as a lion roars. When he cried out, the seven thunders raised their voices, too.
[RV 10:1-3]
Then the angel I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven
and swore by the one who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and earth and sea
and all that is in them, "There shall be no more delay. At the time when you hear the seventh angel blow his trumpet, the mysterious plan of God
shall be fulfilled, as he promised to his servants the prophets." Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again and said, "Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land."
So I went up to the angel and told him to give me the small scroll. He said to me, "Take and swallow it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will taste as sweet
as honey." [RV 10:5-9]
Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet. There were
loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world now
belongs to our Lord and to his Anointed, and he will reign forever
and ever." [RV 11:15]
Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels
battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back,
but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the
Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to
earth, and its angels were thrown down with it. [RV 12:7-9]
Then I saw another angel flying high overhead, with
everlasting good news to announce to those who dwell on earth, to
every nation, tribe, tongue, and people. He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, for his time has come to sit in judgment. Worship him who made heaven and earth and sea and springs of water."
[RV 14:6-7]
A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice,
"Anyone who worships the beast or its image, or accepts its
mark on forehead or hand, will also drink the wine of God's fury, poured full
strength into the cup of his wrath, and will be tormented in
burning sulfur before the holy angels and before the Lamb." [RV 14:9-10]
Another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a
loud voice to the one sitting on the cloud, "Use your sickle
and reap the harvest, for the time to reap has come, because the
earth's harvest is fully ripe." Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven
who also had a sharp sickle. Then another angel (came) from the altar, (who) was in
charge of the fire, and cried out in a loud voice to the one who
had the sharp sickle, "Use your sharp sickle and cut the
clusters from the earth's vines, for its grapes are ripe." So the angel swung his sickle over the earth and cut
the earth's vintage. He threw it into the great wine press of
God's fury. [RV 14:15, 17-19]
Then I saw in heaven another sign, great and
awe-inspiring: seven angels with the seven last plagues, for
through them God's fury is accomplished. [RV 15:1]
After this I had another vision. The temple that is the heavenly tent of
testimony opened and the seven angels with the seven plagues came out of
the temple. They were dressed in clean white linen, with a gold
sash around their chests. One of the four living creatures gave the seven angels
seven gold bowls filled with the fury of God, who lives forever
and ever. Then the temple became so filled with the smoke from
God's glory and might that no one could enter it until the seven
plagues of the seven angels had been accomplished. [RV15:5-8]
I heard a loud voice speaking from the temple to the
seven angels, "Go and pour out the seven bowls of God's fury
upon the earth." The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the
earth. Festering and ugly sores broke out on those who had the
mark of the beast or worshiped its image. The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea. The
sea turned to blood like that from a corpse; every creature living
in the sea died. The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and
springs of water. These also turned to blood. Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say:
"You are just, O Holy One, who are and who were, in passing
this sentence. For they have shed the blood of the holy ones and the prophets, and you (have) given them blood to drink; it is what they deserve." Then I heard the altar cry out, "Yes, Lord God almighty, your judgments are true and just." The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun. It was
given the power to burn people with fire. The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of
the beast. Its kingdom was plunged into darkness, and people bit
their tongues in pain and blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and sores. But they did not repent of their
works The sixth angel emptied his bowl on the great river
Euphrates. Its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings
of the East. The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air. A
loud voice came out of the temple from the throne, saying,
"It is done." [RV 16:1-8, 10-12, 17]
Then the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed
are those who have been called to the wedding feast of the
Lamb." And he said to me, "These words are true; they
come from God." [RV 19:9]
Then I saw an angel standing on the sun. He cried out
(in) a loud voice to all the birds flying high overhead,
"Come here. Gather for God's great feast, [RV 19:17]
Then I saw an angel come down from heaven, holding in
his hand the key to the abyss and a heavy chain. He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, which is the Devil or Satan,
and tied it up for a thousand years and threw it into the abyss, which he locked over it and sealed, so that it could no longer lead the nations astray until the thousand years are completed. After this, it is to be released for a short time.
[RV 20:1-3]
One of the seven angels who held the seven bowls filled
with the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come here.
I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." He took me in spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. It gleamed with the splendor of God. Its radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal. It had a massive, high wall, with twelve gates where
twelve angels were stationed and on which names were inscribed,
(the names) of the twelve tribes of the Israelites. [RV 21:9-12]
And he said to me, "These words are trustworthy
and true, and the Lord, the God of prophetic spirits, sent his
angel to show his servants what must happen soon."
"Behold, I am coming soon." Blessed is the one who keeps the prophetic message of this book. It is I, John, who heard and saw these things, and when
I heard and saw them I fell down to worship at the feet of the
angel who showed them to me. [RV 22:6-8]
