Note: Exchanges and loans are allowed in the "Catholic Book Review & Exchange" section only. The "Give & Take" section is not for exchanges or loans.

While this site offers you the opportunity to share with others, it is prudent to take precautions to protect yourself (whether you are lending / borrowing / exchanging / giving / sending / receiving, etc.).

Consider the following:

• We strongly urge you to protect all personal information! We warn against providing any personal information (both on this site and in e-mail & other correspondence). NEVER give out - or ask for - credit card numbers or personal information such as social security numbers, driver's license numbers, identification numbers, mother's maiden name, children's names, pet's name, medical information, etc. You should also carefully avoid disclosing any identifying information or personal information that should be kept private (i.e. personal details, information about one's sins, personal matters, specific locations, etc.). Note that even your name is personal information! By disclosing any personal information, you may put yourself and your loved ones at risk.

• Set terms / limits in advance [i.e. time limits, geographical limits, what to do in case of damage/loss/problem/etc., who pays for return shipping (where applicable), etc.]. Be sure also to settle jurisdictional matters in advance.

• Consider utilizing a post office box to help protect your personal information.

• Consider talking with the other party on the phone prior to sharing. Remember, however, that if you provide your phone number, you may receive unwanted or harassing calls.

• Avoid sharing one-of-a-kind items, sentimental items, hard to replace items, etc.

• Don't lend / exchange / transfer items you can't afford to be without.

• Don't send any cash!

• Become familiar with and do not break any applicable laws.

• Think it through - What do you expect from the other party? What will you do if the other party doesn't perform their responsibilities properly? What actions can you take to reduce your risk? How can you be certain the other party is who they say they are? How can you be certain that addresses are valid and belong to the intended party? What happens if a borrowed article is lost, damaged, or misused? Can the item be replaced? What if other problems occur? How can you protect your personal information?...

• Should you request or provide a self addressed stamped envelope (SASE)? If so, what amount of postage is required?... What happens if the article is damaged or never delivered?... What if a SASE contains insufficient postage?... What if an item is misaddressed?...

• If you provide shipping prepayment, should you apply postage directly to a self-addressed envelope?... What happens if the other party never mails the item or you don't receive it?... What happens if it is broken or is lost in transit?... If you shipped the item, would you be expected to reimburse the other party if it was lost or damaged? Would you be expected to replace the item? Should you insure items mailed?... Should you obtain proof of mailing?... Should you require a signature upon delivery?... Who pays for this?... Can you prove you mailed an item to the other party's satisfaction? On book exchanges, what if one party spends more for shipping than the other party?...

• Book Transfers: Don't lend/exchange/transfer items you can't afford to lose. Don't borrow items you can't afford to replace. Books should be exchanged only for other (Catholic) books/booklets of equal value, and not for other items. Do not lend/exchange/transfer any non-Catholic books! Reminder: Those who violate our policies may be banned from future posting on this site (not just a certain section). If lending/borrowing books, should you first document the condition of the item (e.g. with photographs)? Remember also that some wear may be expected with each reading of a book. If exchanging books, what if the other party sends you a lower value item in return? 

• Should you ask for the other party's contact information? Work phone number? Fax? E-mail address? Copy of individual's weekly parish envelope (e.g. parish envelope pre-printed with their name/address)?... Should you verify any information? If you are asked for such information, should you provide it?... Does your parish envelope contain private information?... Would you require that items you provide be sent back to you?...

• Consider asking the other party for their parish / diocese information. You may want to request a parish bulletin.

• Should you request a copy of the other party's business card? If asked, are you willing to provide this information?

• Who will be responsible for any taxes or fees?

• What if a party is injured by a transferred item?... Would you be held responsible?... Would they?...

• What if you discovered that an individual misused an item you sent or resold or donated it? Or, what if they received it from you fraudulently (e.g. they lied to receive the item)?

• Note that provided contact information, descriptive information, Catholic affiliation, and other information may be subjective / inaccurate, or may change, and that items may not be as described or may arrive inappropriately. Information appearing on the site may be the opinion of the submitter.

• Before participating, you should carefully consider how you might distribute/accept items. If you receive many requests/offers, how can you lawfully choose?

• Sharing sections are not intended for sales of products (or services). Commercial abuses of sharing sections may cause all applicable items to be removed and the party in question may be banned from future posting on this site. Note: If you are interested in purchasing/selling products/services, try the commercial sections of this site.

• Users are warned that some may attempt to abuse sharing sections in various ways. We are not responsible for any abuses, even if we become aware of them and take no action (or if we take ineffective, insufficient, or otherwise unsuitable action) to stop them or to reduce their occurrence or to mitigate their damage.

• You should work out a detailed agreement between yourself and the other party(ies) in advance (preferably in writing). Remember that we are not a party to your transactions (including lending, borrowing, exchanging, giving, sending, receiving, offering, requesting, contacts / correspondence etc.) and we do not get involved in your dealings with others or mediate disputes.

• As the other party may not actually have an item indicated in their offer, it may be wise to ask for proof that they actually have the item before you send a money order/check, provide an address, etc.

• Remember that descriptions of items, book reviews, etc. are subjective and may contain varying degrees of truthfulness. We encourage you to independently research items, books, submitters, offers, requests, offerers, requestors, etc. before engaging in any transaction (including all transfers, contacts / correspondence, etc.).

• Although our goal is for this site to be "safe", users are cautioned that we cannot guarantee that items / offers / requests / submitters / requestors / offerers, etc. listed here are beneficial or "safe". In fact, we caution that items received, individuals (e.g. submitters / requestors / offerers, etc.), and all transactions (including loans, exchanges, transfers, offers / requests, sending / receiving, contacts / correspondence, etc.) may be harmful / dangerous in various ways. For example: Some books may have almost entirely good content, but some dangerous errors may also be contained - these errors may be little or great, very harmful, or minutely harmful; Or, requestors / submitters / offerers, etc. may engage in transfers / correspondence, etc. for the purpose of obtaining information about your for possibly harmful purposes; Or, items transferred may be physically hazardous / dangerous; Etc., etc. You should be especially cautious about dealing with unknown persons and you should carefully consider how you can protect yourself, your loved ones, your possessions, etc. Remember that participation in any transaction (including lending, borrowing, exchanging, giving, sending, receiving, offering, requesting, contacts / correspondence etc.) is at your own risk. We are not a party to your transactions and we do not mediate disputes.

• Note that we do not endorse / recommend any individual(s) / organization(s) / group(s), etc. who may contact you regarding your post(s).

• Users are warned to use extreme caution since unscrupulous people may use these sections for evil purposes. Remember that we are not a party to others' transactions (including lending, borrowing, exchanging, giving, sending, receiving, offering, requesting, contacts / correspondence etc.), even if information about such transactions is contained on our site (or other materials), and we do not mediate disputes. By using this site, you agree to assume all risks and agree to hold us harmless for all consequences which may occur, without limit.

Additional Considerations:

• Availability of all items is subject to change at any time without notice. Remember that posts may appear on this site for a long time, even if items indicated are no longer available. Click here for general timetable information. Note that we are unable to honor requests to remove posts which are no longer applicable.

• Terms and other information provided by users may vary, may not be complete, may be subjective/inaccurate, and may change at any time without notice.

• All information is provided by users, is not comprehensive, has not been verified, may be subjective/inaccurate, is not endorsed / recommended by us, and may change at any time without notice. Note that we cannot guarantee accuracy/truthfulness of any information.

• Note that if you offer an item for loan / transfer / exchange, an e-mail address will be required in order to contact you regarding availability, terms, etc. Please note that, for your protection, we recommend a cautious approach to providing e-mail information. We suggest that you use a special e-mail account exclusively for use on this site (e.g. one that you could easily abandon/change should a problem arise). If you do not wish to include your e-mail address, you will be unable to participate in sharing sections (although you may share Catholic books by contributing them to our 'lending library'). Please note that we may verify e-mail addresses provided and require a certain timely response. (Note that our verification will not ask for personal information.)

• If you provide or require a deposit for lent items (i.e. books / booklets), should the check be cashed or held? If held, will it be good later? If the check is not cashed, will it have to be mailed back? Must a SASE be provided for its return? What if the deposit is lost? Who would be responsible for stop payment fees? What happens if a check bounces? Who would be responsible for bank fees? How might a bad check be replaced? What if someone is supposed to hold the check, but instead cashes it? When would the recipient be entitled to keep the deposit? How much would they be entitled to keep? Is the situation effectively a sale (which is forbidden here)? Should the lender require a deposit covering the full replacement cost (and other costs)?...  

• Should you require/provide an expense reimbursement? If so, how much will appropriate expenses total?... Should the sender be reimbursed in advance? If so, how do you know they will use the funds properly? If not, how can the sender be certain they will be reimbursed?... Should you remit funds by check or private money order? (Note that a private money order may better protect privacy.) Do not mail cash! What if the reimbursement is lost? Who would be responsible for stop payment fees?... What happens if a check bounces? Who will be responsible for bank fees? How might a bad check be replaced?... What happens if you never receive an expense reimbursement?... What if advance expense reimbursement funds are spent improperly? What if the other party spends more to ship an item (at your expense) than they needed to?... What if the shipping reimbursement amounts to more than the item is worth?... Should you obtain proof of mailing for expense reimbursements?... Should you require a signature upon delivery?... Who pays for this?... Note: The total amount of any expense reimbursements should be modest and should equal (and not exceed) the actual amount of appropriate costs to be reimbursed. Expense reimbursements should be in the form of a check or (preferably) private money order denominated in U.S. currency. All expense reimbursement arrangements should be specific, detailed, and agreed to in advance by all applicable parties (preferably in writing and containing appropriate original signatures).

• Does the sending/receiving party have any special shipping instructions or needs? Are these acceptable to both parties?

• Rather than a check, should you pay deposits / shipping reimbursements by a private money order to protect your personal information? If so, how much would this cost you?

• Remember that even if you are promised reimbursement for expenses, you may never receive it. If you do not want to - or cannot afford to - take this risk, you should not participate.

• We recommend limiting your lending / exchanging / transferring to one item at a time. Reminder: Exchanges and loans are allowed in the "Catholic Book Review & Exchange" section only. The "Give & Take" section is not for exchanges or loans.

• Senders: You should verify that you are sending item(s) directly to the requestor and that the requestor is capable of receiving/utilizing the item(s) lawfully (no minors!). Do NOT send your item(s) to any other party. You should note that items you give become the property of the other party. All items may be further transferred by the other party (even if they do not notify you of their decision to do so). You should consider carefully removing any ownership markings / postal information, etc. before sending items to protect your information, and you should also be cautious about any information on the packaging (e.g. postal information) which may be subsequently transferred to other party(ies). 

• Requestors: Do not submit requests for others (including individuals, organizations, etc.) [either by submitting an item request(s) for another party or responding to an item offer(s) for another party]. If another party wants to request an item, they should submit their own request. Note that you may NEVER request that an item be sent directly to any other party - however, if you want to request an item which you will subsequently (and personally) give to another individual (not an organization, group, business, etc.), it may be acceptable to request it here. • You may wish to limit participation in the Catholic Book Review & Exchange section to items which contain an Imprimatur (assurance provided by the Church that a particular item, while not necessarily true, has not been found to contradict Catholic dogma). You may also wish to employ additional caution regarding "Catholic" books printed during or after the 1960's as they are more likely to be "infected with modernism".

• If you'd like to share Catholic books, but don't want to offer them online, consider giving them to our 'lending library' (click here for more information).

• We do not guarantee that any posts will appear on the site, that anyone will receive/provide any item(s), or anything else about any offer / request / submitter / requestor / offerer / item, etc.

• If you offer an item for loan / transfer / exchange, we recommend that you include a "final date" in the applicable field to notify users not to contact you after that date. Unfortunately, however, there is no guarantee that you will not be contacted after that time. Note that posts may appear on the site for a long time and that we cannot honor requests to remove posts which are no longer applicable. 

• Long processing delays in this section are not unexpected. Therefore, please submit your post early. Note: Do not contact us regard the status of any submission.

• Contact the postal service or other appropriate carrier to inquire about rates, special pricing for printed matter, and for other mailing assistance. 

• Transfers of items are probably not deductible, even if given for charitable reasons. The IRS may require that donations be made to qualified charities to be deductible. If you give or receive items, you may be responsible for paying tax. For assistance with tax matters, consult a qualified tax professional.

• Items / submitters / requestors / offerers / requests / offers, etc. may be harmful in various ways. You agree to assume all risks of transactions (including loans, exchanges, transfers, offers / requests, sending / receiving, contacts / correspondence, etc.), without limit.

• Blessed articles should receive special consideration. If an article has been blessed by a Roman Catholic priest, you should notify the other party. (Note: Remember that those who sell/purchase blessed items may be guilty of the sin of Simony.)

• Be specific about what you are offering/requesting in your posts, but do not include any organization names, brand names, web addresses, etc. If you include such detail in your post, the post - and all your future posts - may be subject to auto rejection. As applicable, you may discuss such information privately with interested individuals. 

• Do not attempt to advertise here or otherwise promote your products/services/website/organization, etc. Do not name any organization, individual, brand name, website, etc. in your posts or provide contact information. If you include such detail in your post, the post - and all your future posts to this site (not just this section) - may be subject to auto rejection. Note: If you wish to advertise your products / services / website / organization, etc., consider an inexpensive ad in a commercial section of this site.

• If you participate in any transaction, you may receive unwanted communications and/or you may receive or be subject to other unwanted items (including personal visits, anti-Catholic literature, harassment, encounters with those who have an intent to harm or deceive, etc.) and/or others may use your information in ways unsuitable/harmful to you. Proceed at your own risk.

• Book loans may be especially risky. In fact, a loan may end up costing you more than it would have cost you to buy a book - and, to top it off, you might end up with no book to show for it. For example, a lender may require you to ship the item both ways and include a deposit and, if the lender failed to return your deposit, you may be without the book, out the cost of shipping the book two ways, and out the amount of the deposit! Also, consider whether the cost to ship an item two ways (if you would be required to do so) plus other applicable costs adds up to more than the item is worth...

• Whether you are requesting or offering items, you may encounter various problems. For example: The other party may not do what they say or otherwise may fail to live up to their commitments; Items may not be as indicated or promised; Items may never be received; Items received may turn out to be anti-Catholic or against Church teachings; The other party might not be who they say they are; Offers/requests may be cancelled or changed unexpectedly; Parties may receive differing treatment by others; The other party may disclose your personal information; Offers/requests may turn out to be profit-minded, or otherwise inappropriate; You may be exposed to insult, ridicule, disparaging comments, etc. or may be questioned about beliefs, etc.; Items received may be in unexpected or poor condition or may cause injury; The other party may be dangerous or may associate with others who are dangerous; The other party may continue engaging in unwanted communications (including e-mail, personal visits, phone calls, etc.); Etc... Reminder: Participation in any transactions (including requesting items, offering items, lending, borrowing, exchanging, giving, sending, receiving, contacts / correspondence, etc.) is at your own risk. Should you experience problems, you may attempt to work them out with the other party. As applicable, you may notify law enforcement or seek other legal remedies. Remember that we are not a party to others' transactions (including lending, borrowing, exchanging, giving, sending, receiving, offering, requesting, contacts / correspondence, etc.) and do not mediate disputes. You are solely responsible for all consequences of your transactions.

• We advise users to research offers / requests / items (including books / authors / publishers, etc.) / individuals / submitters / requestors / offerers, etc. independently before participation (including lending / borrowing, exchanging, transferring, giving, sending / receiving, offering / requesting, contacts / correspondence, etc.) and to use great caution when participating in any transaction (including all transfers, contacts / correspondence, etc.). Remember that you should not rely on the information here as we provide no guarantee of accuracy / truthfulness / completeness, etc. You are responsible for obtaining/verifying all necessary information.

• By requesting/offering any item(s), you agree to take full responsibility for all consequences, outcomes, occurrences, etc., without limitation, and without recourse to us. Note that you may be held legally liable for others should any problems occur (e.g. if an item injures another party in any way, etc.). Do NOT offer/request any item(s) if you cannot afford such liability. Remember that any use of this site is entirely at your own risk, with no recourse to us and that you agree to hold us harmless for all consequences / damages / etc. - direct or indirect - which may occur as a result of use of this site (or other materials), regardless of their nature, without limit. If you do not want to take these risks (or cannot afford to), you should not participate. 

• When transferring books, should you mark the book with ownership information (e.g. your name, return to information, etc.)? Does the book contain any personal information that should be removed? Are any other items (e.g. papers, mementos, etc.) contained within the book?...

• You should be careful not to reveal personal information unintentionally in your post(s) and other correspondence. Note that some options on the add page(s) may disclose various types of information (i.e. your location, your religious affiliation, etc.). Proceed at your own risk. Remember that any participation [including submitting a post(s) / responding to post(s), etc.] is at your own risk. If you do not want to take such risks (or cannot afford to), you should not participate.

• You may not revoke (or change) your offer/request online. However, you may terminate (or change) your offer/request (as allowed) by notifying individuals who contact you that it has been changed or revoked (where permitted by law and as allowed under our terms). Note: Those who cancel or change offers / requests frequently may be banned from future posting on this site (not just certain sections).

Also keep in mind these conditions:

• U.S. based lending/exchanges/transfers only. No requestors / submitters / offerers / transfers, etc. outside the U.S.

• To request/receive/offer/provide item(s), you must be a legal-aged adult (no minors) who is able to request/receive/offer/provide them lawfully. 

• Listing/offering of Catholic books in the Book Review & Exchange section is limited to Catholics only.

• You may not pay to include post(s) in the sharing sections.

• No third party offers.

• Do not transfer items (or request that items be transferred) to any party other than the requesting party (i.e. the requestor). If you wish to request an item that you will personally transfer to another individual, it is called a "subsequent transfer". • No organizational requests.

• All religious items offered/requested must be Catholic.

• Non-Catholics should not request/receive religious articles.

• No items harmful to any of God's creatures.

• Sharing sections are for low cost, tangible items only. No cash or cash equivalents (including postage stamps, food stamps, etc.), perishables, services, unsuitable items, etc.

• No party (including offerers, submitters, requestors, etc.) may attempt to sell / solicit anything or otherwise attempt to profit from transactions (including loans, exchanges, transfers, etc.).

• No requests/offers for prohibited items (e.g. weapons, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, illegal, dangerous/hazardous items, controlled substances, medical / legal / financial / sexual / immoral / illicit / political items, anti-Catholic items, distasteful / inappropriate items, items unlawful to mail/ship, etc.).

• The Give & Take section is not designed for sharing food items. Please avoid all offers of and requests for food.

• No items / posts which don't follow traditional Roman Catholic teachings (e.g. "modernist", "progressive" unorthodox, "feminist", "charismatic", anti-Catholic, "new age", etc. items / posts) or which seek to have traditional Church teachings changed, or which adhere to / promote any kind of questionable orthodoxy. Do not offer/request any item which is at odds with traditional Roman Catholic teachings or practices.

• No items / posts endorsing "illicit", Sedevacantist, or schismatic (as defined by the Holy See) activities / organizations, etc.

• Exchanges and loans are allowed in the "Catholic Book Review & Exchange" section only. All books exchanged must be Catholic and should be of equal value. Do not exchange any non-Catholic books or other items. Books exchanged should be exchanged only for other (Catholic) books. The "Give & Take" section is not for exchanges or loans. 

• If transferring item(s), you must be the true and lawful owner with full right to dispose of all transferred items.

• Users are responsible for learning of and following all legal requirements / tax regulations / postal regulations, etc. related to any offers / requests, sending / receiving, contacts / correspondence, transfers, loans, exchanges, expense reimbursements / deposits, etc. We do not provide legal / tax / shipping, etc. advice.

• Be certain that your posts are fully truthful, honest, and accurate. If in doubt, do not submit. We may verify any information you submit (although we are not required to). If any information is deemed inaccurate, the post - and all your future posts - may be subject to auto rejection.

• No selling of items in sharing sections! If you charge for shipping on transferred items, the amount charged should not greatly exceed your cost to ship the item. (Instead, if you have items to sell or wish to loan for a profit, consider placing an inexpensive ad in one or more of the commercial sections of this site.) If you violate our policies, all your future posts to this site (not just certain sections) may be subject to auto rejection.

• We are not responsible for any outcome/consequence/effect, etc. - whether direct or indirect - of any transaction whatsoever (including offers, requests, loans, exchanges, transfers, sending, receiving, contacts / correspondence, etc.).

• We do not endorse/recommend any offer, request, item (including books / booklets / authors / publishers / reviews, etc.), submitter, requestor, offerer, individual, etc. Items which may appear on the site (or related materials) are not screened / evaluated by us and are not endorsed / recommended by us.

• We cannot guarantee that any offer, request, item (including books / authors / publishers, etc.), submitter, requestor, offerer, individual, etc. is as described.

• We may prohibit posts from certain regions at our sole discretion. We may limit non-Catholic participation (as applicable). We may prohibit any post(s) at our sole discretion.

• We may require printed or other materials (or other verification) regarding any item / book / offer / request / review, etc. at our sole option (but are not required to). (Note that any verification will not ask for personal information.)

• We cannot guarantee that any user of this site (or other materials) is in compliance with any/all of our terms/requirements, even if a particular post appears on the site (or other materials of ours).
