3:15
[DR] |
I will put enmities between thee and
the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she
shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie
in wait for her heel. [Note: This
passage is from the Douay Rheims version
of the Bible (used widely for many years before the Second Vatican
Council). Modern translations may interpret the one who crushes
Satan
in the masculine gender (meaning
Jesus). For more on this topic, click here.] |
ISA 7:14 |
Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.
|
MICAH 5:1-3
|
But you, Bethlehem-Ephrathah too small to be among the clans of Judah,
From you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel;
Whose origin is from of old, from ancient times. (Therefore the Lord will give them up, until the time when she who is to give birth has borne,
And the rest of his brethren shall return to the children of Israel.)
He shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of the LORD, in the majestic name of the LORD, his God;
And they shall remain, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the
earth |
MT
1:16 |
Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Of her was born Jesus who is called the Messiah.
|
MT 1:18-25 |
Now this is how the birth of Jesus
Christ came about. When his mother Mary
was betrothed to Joseph, but before they
lived together, she was found with child
through the Holy Spirit. Joseph her
husband, since he was a righteous man, yet
unwilling to expose her to shame, decided
to divorce her quietly. Such was his
intention when, behold, the angel of the
Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
"Joseph, son of David, do not be
afraid to take Mary your wife into your
home. For it is through the Holy Spirit
that this child has been conceived in
her. She will bear a son and
you are to name him Jesus, because he will
save his people from their
sins." All this took place to
fulfill what the Lord had said through the
prophet: "Behold, the virgin shall be
with child and bear a son, and they shall
name him Emmanuel," which means
"God is with us." When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home. He had no relations with her until she bore a son,
and he named him Jesus. [Note: The use of the word
"until" does not mean they had marital relations after
the birth of Jesus. For more information on Mary's perpetual

MT 2:9-11 |
After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star,
and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. |
MT
2:13-15 |
When they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to
Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him."
Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt.
He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the
prophet might be fulfilled, "Out of Egypt I called my son." |
MT
2:19-23 |
When Herod had died, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt
and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child's life are
dead." He rose, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel.
But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod,
he was afraid to go back there. And because he had been warned in a dream, he departed for the region of Galilee.
He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazorean."
|
MT 12:46-50 |
While he was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers appeared outside, wishing to speak with him.
(Someone told him, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, asking to speak with
you.") But he said in reply to the one who told him, "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?"
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother." [Note: The above stresses that observance
of God's word is more important that a biological relationship

terminology does not mean that Jesus had blood brothers, which of

MT 13:54-58 |
He came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were
astonished and said, "Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?" And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house." And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith. MK 3:31-35 |
His mother and his brothers arrived. Standing outside they sent word to him and called him. A crowd seated around him told him, "Your mother and your brothers
(and your sisters) are outside asking for you." But he said to them in reply, "Who are my mother and (my) brothers?" And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. (For) whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother." [Note: The above stresses that observance

MK 6:2-5 |
When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands!
Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.
Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own
house." So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them. [Note: Some ancient languages have no

1:26-56
[DR] |
And in
the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of
Galilee, called Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was
Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the
angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is
with thee: blessed art thou among women. Who having heard, was troubled
at his saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this
should be. And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast
found grace with God. Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt
bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be
great, and shall be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God
shall give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign
in the house of Jacob for ever. And of his kingdom there shall be no
end. And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know
not man? And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come
upon thee, and the power of the most High shall overshadow thee. And
therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the
Son of God. And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a
son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that is called
barren: Because no word shall be impossible with God. And Mary said:
Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word.
And the angel departed from her. And Mary rising
up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of
Juda. And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth.
And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary,
the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy
Ghost: And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou
among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to
me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold as soon as
the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb
leaped for joy. And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those
things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord. And
Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced in
God my Saviour. Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid;
for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his
name. And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that
fear him. He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud
in the conceit of their heart. He hath put down the mighty from their
seat, and hath exalted the humble. He hath filled the hungry with good
things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath received Israel
his servant, being mindful of his mercy: As he spoke to our fathers, to
Abraham and to his seed for ever. And Mary abode with her about three
months; and she returned to her own house.

LK 2:1-20 [DR] |
And it came to pass, that in
those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the
whole world should be enrolled. This enrolling was first made by
Cyrinus, the governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, every
one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out
of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is
called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David,
To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.
And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were
accomplished, that she should be delivered. And she brought forth
her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and
laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the
inn. And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and
keeping the night watches over their flock. And behold an angel of
the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round
about them; and they feared with a great fear. And the angel said
to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great
joy, that shall be to all the people: For, this day, is born to
you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. And
this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped
in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. And suddenly there was
with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and
saying: Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of
good will. And it came to pass, after the angels departed from
them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go
over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass,
which the Lord hath shewed to us. And they came with haste; and
they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to
them concerning this child. And all that heard, wondered; and at
those things that were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept
all these words, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds
returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had
heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
[Note: The use of the term 'firstborn'
does not mean that Mary had other children, which of course she
didn't since she is an ever virgin. For more information on this

LK 2:22, 25,
27-35 [DR] |
And after the days of her
purification, according to the law of Moses, were accomplished,
they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord... And
behold there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man was
just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the
Holy Ghost was in him... And he came by the Spirit into the
temple. And when his parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for
him according to the custom of the law, He also took him into his
arms, and blessed God, and said: Now thou dost dismiss thy
servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace; Because my eyes
have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face
of all peoples: A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the
glory of thy people Israel. And his father and mother were
wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him. And
Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this
child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in
Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted; And thy own
soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may
be revealed. |
LK 2:41-52 |
Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover,
and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions,
and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety."
And he said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's
house?" But they did not understand what he said to them. He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart.
And Jesus advanced (in) wisdom and age and favor before God and man. |
LK 8:19-21 |
Then his mother and his brothers
came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you."
He said to them in reply, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on
it." [Note: The above stresses that

JN 2:1-12 |
On the third day there was a
wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine."
(And) Jesus said to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come."
His mother said to the servers, "Do whatever he tells you." Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter."
So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom
and said to him, "Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now."
Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.
After this, he and his mother, (his) brothers, and his disciples went down to Capernaum and stayed there only a few days. [Note: Some ancient languages have no

JN 6:41-45 |
The Jews murmured about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from
heaven," and they said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" |
JN
19:25-27 [DR] |
Now
there stood by the cross of Jesus, his mother, and his mother's sister,
Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen. When Jesus therefore had seen his
mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he saith to his mother:
Woman, behold thy son. After that, he saith to the disciple: Behold thy
mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own. |
ACTS 1:13-14 |
When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.
All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. [Note: Some ancient languages have no

GAL
4:4-5 |
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption. |
RV 12:1-9, 13-18 |
A great sign appeared in the sky, a
woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give
birth. Then another sign appeared in the sky; it was a huge red dragon,
with seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems.
Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them down to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth.
She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod.
Her child was caught up to God and his throne. The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God, that there she might be taken care of for twelve hundred and sixty
days. Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back,
but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.
The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it...
When the dragon saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.
But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly to her place in the desert, where, far from the serpent, she was taken care of for a year, two years, and a half-year.
The serpent, however, spewed a torrent of water out of his mouth after the woman to sweep her away with the current.
But the earth helped the woman and opened its mouth and swallowed the flood that the dragon spewed out of its mouth.
Then the dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God's commandments and bear witness to
Jesus. It took its position on the sand of the sea. |

EX 25:10-11
The Ark is Covered With
Pure Gold |
You shall make an ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits wide, and one and a half cubits high. Plate it inside and outside with pure gold, and put a molding of gold around the top of it. |
1 SAM 2:1-10
Compare with the Magnificat |
"My heart exults in the LORD,
my horn is exalted in my God. I have swallowed up my enemies; I rejoice in my victory. There is no Holy One like the LORD; there in no Rock like our God.
Speak boastfully no longer, nor let arrogance issue from your mouths.
For an all-knowing God is the LORD, a God who judges deeds. The bows of the mighty are broken, while the tottering gird on strength.
The well-fed hire themselves out for bread, while the hungry batten on spoil.
The barren wife bears seven sons, while the mother of many languishes.
The LORD puts to death and gives life; he casts down to the nether world; he raises up again. The LORD makes poor and makes rich, he humbles, he also exalts. He raises the needy from the dust; from the ash heap he lifts up the poor,
To seat them with nobles and make a glorious throne their heritage.
He gives to the vower his vow, and blesses the sleep of the just.
For the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he has set the world upon them. He will guard the footsteps of his faithful ones, but the wicked shall perish in the darkness.
For not by strength does man prevail; the LORD'S foes shall be shattered.
The Most High in heaven thunders; The LORD judges the ends of the earth,
Now may he give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed!" |
1 SAM 7:2
Where the Ark Was, there
the People Turned to the Lord |
From the day the ark came to rest in Kiriath-jearim a long time-twenty years-elapsed, and the whole Israelite population turned to the LORD. |
2 SAM 6:9
Compare With Lk. 1:43 |
David feared the LORD that day and said, "How can the ark of the LORD come to me?" |
2 SAM 6:11
The Ark Brings Blessings |
The ark of the LORD remained
in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the
LORD blessed Obed-edom and his whole house. |

Queen Mother Position |
When Solomon was seated on the throne of his father David, with
his sovereignty firmly established, Adonijah, son of Haggith, went
to Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon. "Do you come as a
friend?" she asked. "Yes," he answered, and added,
"I have something to say to you." She replied, "Say
it." So he said: "You know that the kingdom was mine,
and all Israel expected me to be king. But the kingdom escaped me
and became my brother's, for the LORD gave it to him. But now
there is one favor I would ask of you. Do not refuse me." And
she said, "Speak on." He said, "Please ask King
Solomon, who will not refuse you, to give me Abishag the Shunamite
for my wife." "Very well," replied Bathsheba,
"I will speak to the king for you." Then Bathsheba went
to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, and the king stood
up to meet her and paid her homage. Then he sat down upon his
throne, and a throne was provided for the king's mother, who sat
at his right. "There is one small favor I would ask of
you," she said. "Do not refuse me." "Ask it,
my mother," the king said to her, "for I will not refuse
you." So she said, "Let Abishag the Shunamite be given
to your brother Adonijah for his wife." |

art all fair, O my love, and there is not a spot in thee.
|
CANT 6:8-9 (Song.
6:9-10)
[DR] Perfection
/ Praise |
One is my dove, my perfect one
is but one, she is the only one of her mother, the chosen of her
that bore her. The daughters saw her, and declared her most
blessed: the queens and concubines, and they praised her. Who is
she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon,
bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in array?
|
WISDOM 7:14 Applicable
to Mary |
For to men she is an unfailing treasure; those who gain this treasure win the friendship of God, to whom the gifts they have from discipline commend them. |
ECCLES 4:12-15
[DR] Applicable
to Mary |
Wisdom inspireth life into her
children, and protecteth them that seek after her, and will go
before them in the way of justice. And he that loveth her, loveth
life: and they that watch for her, shall embrace her sweetness.
They that hold her fast, shall inherit life: and withersoever she
entereth, God will give a blessing. They that serve her, shall be
servants to the holy one: and God loveth them that love her. |
ECCLES 24:12-13
[DR] Applicable
to Mary |
Then the creator of all things
commanded, and said to me: and he that made me, rested in my
tabernacle, And he said to me: Let thy dwelling be in Jacob, and
thy inheritance in Israel, and take root in my elect. |
EZEK 44:1-2
Mary's Perpetual Virginity |
Then he brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary, facing the east; but it was closed.
He said to me: This gate is to remain closed; it is not to be opened for anyone to enter by it; since the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered by it, it shall remain closed. |

BIG Book of Latin Activities For Catholics
Beginning - Intermediate (Vol. 1)
"Suitable For Children Or
Adults!" ~ "Perfect For Home Schoolers!"
+ + +
As many faithful Catholics already know,
the majestic
Latin language – the 'official language' of the Catholic Church –
promotes unity, helps safeguard the purity of doctrine, connects us with
our Catholic ancestors, allows us to pray in "one voice", and even ties
back to the inscription on the Cross which was written in Hebrew, Latin,
and Greek. The Latin language is still used today in the precious
treasure that is the
Traditional Latin ('Tridentine') Mass, in 'everyday speech' (much of
English is derived from Latin), in mottos, in specialized fields, and in
educational endeavors. It has been shown that the study of Latin brings
many benefits. "And, Latin is truly the language of heaven!"
If you enjoy Latin, you may be glad to know that
this full-sized (8.5" x 11"), tradition-minded publication features an
assortment of activity types related to Latin (including: word searches,
crosswords, coloring activities, challenges, fill-ins, spelling bee,
quizzes, unscrambles, true/false, multiple choice, matching, cross-offs,
circling, word associations, translation exercises, and more...), and
treats of various topics (including: common Latin words, Latin language
facts, Latin grammar, nouns & verbs, abbreviations,
phrases / sayings / mottos, prefixes, cardinal numbers, grammatical gender,
inflection, word roots, diacritics / accenting, pronunciation, Latin
prayers / hymns, Scripture verses, Catholic phrases, and more...).
