G
- I:
Gaining
Christ /
Pursuing Resurrection After Death / Enemies of the Cross |
Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord...I even consider
everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ
Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things
and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be
found in him, not having any righteousness of my own based on the
law but that which comes through faith in Christ, the
righteousness from God, depending on faith to know him and the
power of his resurrection and (the) sharing of his sufferings by
being conformed to his death, if somehow I may attain the
resurrection from the dead. It is not that I have already taken
hold of it or have already attained perfect maturity, but I
continue my pursuit in hope that I may possess it, since I have
indeed been taken possession of by Christ (Jesus). Brothers, I for
my part do not consider myself to have taken possession. Just one
thing: forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what
lies ahead, I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of
God's upward calling, in Christ Jesus. Let us, then, who are
"perfectly mature" adopt this attitude. And if you have
a different attitude, this too God will reveal to you. Only, with
regard to what we have attained, continue on the same course. Join
with others in being imitators of me, brothers, and observe those
who thus conduct themselves according to the model you have in us.
For many, as I have often told you and now tell you even in tears,
conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is
destruction. Their God is their stomach; their glory is in their
"shame." Their minds are occupied with earthly things.
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a
savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will change our lowly body to
conform with his glorified body by the power that enables him also
to bring all things into subjection to himself. [Taken from PHIL
3:1, 8-21]

Generosity / God's Grace |
Consider this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must
do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God
loves a cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace
abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you
need, you may have an abundance for every good work. As it is
written: "He scatters abroad, he gives to the
poor; his righteousness endures forever." The one who
supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and
multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
You are being enriched in every way for all generosity, which
through us produces thanksgiving to God, for the administration of
this public service is not only supplying the needs of the holy
ones but is also overflowing in many acts of thanksgiving to God.
Through the evidence of this service, you are glorifying God for
your obedient confession of the gospel of Christ and the
generosity of your contribution to them and to all others, while
in prayer on your behalf they long for you, because of the
surpassing grace of God upon you. [2 COR 9:6-14]

Live Worthily / Humility / Gentleness / Love / Unity |
I, then, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner
worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and
gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love,
striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of
peace: one body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one
hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and
Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. [EPH
4:1-6]

Compassion / Kindness / Humility /
Gentleness / Patience /
Forgiveness / Love |
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing
with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance
against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also
do. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of
perfection. [COL 3:12-14]

Gentleness / Tolerance / Correction |
A slave of the Lord should not quarrel, but should be gentle
with everyone, able to teach, tolerant, correcting opponents with
kindness. It may be that God will grant them repentance that leads
to knowledge of the truth, and that they may return to their
senses out of the devil's snare, where they are entrapped by him,
for his will. [2 TM 2:24-26]

Gifts Are From Above |
Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers: all good giving and
every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of
lights, with whom there is no alteration or shadow caused by
change. [JMS 1:16-17]

Gifts of
the Spirit |
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same
Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord;
there are different workings but the same God who produces all of
them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the
Spirit is given for some benefit. To one is given through the
Spirit the expression of wisdom; to another the expression of
knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the
same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit; to
another mighty deeds; to another prophecy; to another discernment
of spirits; to another varieties of tongues; to another
interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit produces
all of these, distributing them individually to each person as he
wishes. [1 COR 12:4-11]

Glory and Love of Christ |
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every
family in heaven and on earth is named, that he may grant you in
accord with the riches of his glory to be strengthened with power
through his Spirit in the inner self, and that Christ may dwell in
your hearts through faith; that you, rooted and grounded in love,
may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the
breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of
Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with
all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to accomplish far
more than all we ask or imagine, by the power at work within us,
to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all
generations, forever and ever. Amen. [EPH 3:14-21]

God is Light / Walking in Darkness / Acknowledging Sin |
Now this is the message that we have heard from him and
proclaim to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at
all. If we say, "We have fellowship with him," while we
continue to walk in darkness, we lie and do not act in truth. But
if we walk in the light as he is in the light, then we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of his Son Jesus
cleanses us from all sin. If we say, "We are without
sin," we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we
acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our
sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing. If we say, "We
have not sinned," we make him a liar, and his word is not in
us. [1 JN 1:5-10]

God is Not Mocked / Reap What You Sow / Eternal Life |
Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only
what he sows, because the one who sows for his flesh will reap
corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows for the spirit
will reap eternal life from the spirit. [GAL 6:7-8]

God's Co-Workers |
What is Apollos, after all, and what is Paul? Ministers through
whom you became believers, just as the Lord assigned each one. I
planted, Apollos watered, but God caused the growth. Therefore,
neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but
only God, who causes the growth. The one who plants and the one
who waters are equal, and each will receive wages in proportion to
his labor. For we are God's co-workers; you are God's field, God's
building. [1 COR 3:5-9]

God's Encouragement |
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of compassion and God of all encouragement, who encourages
us in our every affliction, so that we may be able to encourage
those who are in any affliction with the encouragement with which
we ourselves are encouraged by God. For as Christ's sufferings
overflow to us, so through Christ does our encouragement also
overflow. [2 COR 1:3-5]

God's Generosity / We Will Conquer / No One Can Separate Us
From God's Love |
What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be
against us? He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over
for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along
with him? Who will bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is
God who acquits us. Who will condemn? It is Christ (Jesus) who
died, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God,
who indeed intercedes for us. What will separate us from the love
of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine,
or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?... No, in all these things we conquer
overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that
neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor
depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the
love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. [ROM 8:31-39]

Affliction / Endurance / Hope /
God's Love / We Are Saved
Through Jesus |
Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing
that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven
character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not
disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our
hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. For
Christ, while we were still helpless, yet died at the appointed
time for the ungodly. Indeed, only with difficulty does one die
for a just person, though perhaps for a good person one might even
find courage to die. But God proves his love for us in that while
we were still sinners Christ died for us. How much more then,
since we are now justified by his blood, will we be saved through
him from the wrath. Indeed, if, while we were enemies, we were
reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more,
once reconciled, will we be saved by his life. Not only that, but
we also boast of God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom
we have now received reconciliation. [ROM 5:3-11]

Anxiety / Prayer & Thanksgiving / God's Peace |

God's Spirit
/ Bearing Hardship For
the Gospel / Call to a Holy
Life |
For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of
power and love and self-control. So do not be ashamed of your
testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but
bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that
comes from God. He saved us and called us to a holy life, not
according to our works but according to his own design and the
grace bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before time began, but now
made manifest through the appearance of our savior Christ Jesus,
who destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light
through the gospel, for which I was appointed preacher and apostle
and teacher. [2 THES 1:7-11]

God's Wisdom |
Yet we do speak a wisdom to those who are mature, but not a
wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age who are passing

predetermined before the ages for our glory [1 COR 2:6-7]

Obedience of Faith / Call to Be Holy / The Gospel
/ The
Righteous |
Through him we have received the grace of apostleship, to bring
about the obedience of faith, for the sake of his name, among all
the Gentiles, among whom are you also, who are called to belong to
Jesus Christ; to all the beloved of God in Rome, called to be
holy. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ. For I am not ashamed of the gospel. It is the power
of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: for Jew first,
and then Greek. For in it is revealed the righteousness of God
from faith to faith; as it is written, "The one who is
righteous by faith will live." [ROM 1:5-7, 16-17]

Grace of God /
Immoral People |
See to it that no one be deprived of the grace of God, that no
bitter root spring up and cause trouble, through which many may
become defiled, that no one be an immoral or profane person like
Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. For you know that
later, when he wanted to inherit his father's blessing, he was
rejected because he found no opportunity to change his mind, even
though he sought the blessing with tears. [HEB 12:15-17]

Immorality and Impurity / Greed / Obscenity |
Immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned

Hatred |
Whoever says he is in the light, yet hates his brother, is
still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother remains in the

Have Same Attitude As Jesus |
Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in
Christ Jesus, Who, though he was in the form of God, did not
regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he
emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human
likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself,
becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Because of
this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is
above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should
bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and
every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of
God the Father. [PHIL 2:5-11]

Jesus' Suffering / Healing Through Jesus |
When he was insulted, he returned no insult; when he suffered,
he did not threaten; instead, he handed himself over to the one
who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body upon the
cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By
his wounds you have been healed. For you had gone astray like
sheep, but you have now returned to the shepherd and guardian of
your souls. [1 PT 2:23-25]

Turn From Evil / Act on the Word / Hearing the Word |
Therefore, put away all filth and evil excess and humbly
welcome the word that has been planted in you and is able to save
your souls. Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding
yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer,
he is like a man who looks at his own face in a mirror. He sees
himself, then goes off and promptly forgets what he looked like.
But the one who peers into the perfect law of freedom and
perseveres, and is not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts,
such a one shall be blessed in what he does. [JMS 1:21-25]

False Prophets / False Teachers / Heresies / Punishment /
Corruption |
There were also false prophets among the people, just as there
will be false teachers among you, who will introduce destructive
heresies and even deny the Master who ransomed them, bringing
swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their licentious
ways, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled. In
their greed they will exploit you with fabrications, but from of
old their condemnation has not been idle and their destruction
does not sleep...The Lord knows how to rescue the devout from
trial and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of
judgment, and especially those who follow the flesh with its
depraved desire and show contempt for lordship... [These people] revile things that they do not understand, and in
their destruction they will also be destroyed, suffering wrong as
payment for wrongdoing. Thinking daytime revelry a delight, they
are stains and defilements as they revel in their deceits while
carousing with you. Their eyes are full of adultery and insatiable
for sin. They seduce unstable people, and their hearts are trained
in greed. Accursed children! Abandoning the straight road, they
have gone astray, following the road of Balaam, the son of Bosor,
who loved payment for wrongdoing, but he received a rebuke for his
own crime: a mute beast spoke with a human voice and restrained
the prophet's madness. These people are waterless springs and
mists driven by a gale; for them the gloom of darkness has been
reserved. For, talking empty bombast, they seduce with licentious
desires of the flesh those who have barely escaped from people who
live in error. They promise them freedom, though they themselves
are slaves of corruption, for a person is a slave of whatever
overcomes him. For if they, having escaped the defilements of the
world through the knowledge of (our) Lord and savior Jesus Christ,
again become entangled and overcome by them, their last condition
is worse than their first. For it would have been better for them
not to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it
to turn back from the holy commandment handed down to them. What
is expressed in the true proverb has happened to them, "The
dog returns to its own vomit," and "A bathed sow returns
to wallowing in the mire." [Taken from 2 PT 2:1-3, 9-10,
12-22]

Turn Away From Former Way of Life / Honest Work |
So I declare and testify in the Lord that you must no longer
live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds; darkened
in understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their
ignorance, because of their hardness of heart, they have become
callous and have handed themselves over to licentiousness for the
practice of every kind of impurity to excess. That is not how you
learned Christ, assuming that you have heard of him and were
taught in him, as truth is in Jesus, that you should put away the
old self of your former way of life, corrupted through deceitful
desires, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on
the new self, created in God's way in righteousness and holiness
of truth. The thief must no longer steal, but rather labor, doing
honest work with his (own) hands, so that he may have something to

God. Encourage yourselves daily while it is still
"today," so that none of you may grow hardened by the
deceit of sin. We have become partners of Christ if only we hold
the beginning of the reality firm until the end, And to whom did
he "swear that they should not enter into his rest," if

Hope For Those Who Have Passed On |
We do not want you to be unaware, brothers, about those who
have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who

will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen
asleep. Indeed, we tell you this, on the word of the Lord, that we
who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will
surely not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord
himself, with a word of command, with the voice of an archangel
and with the trumpet of God, will come down from heaven, and the
dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are
left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet

Marital Responsibilities / Wife / Husband / Unmarried / Widows
/ Separation / Divorce |
The husband should fulfill his duty toward his wife, and
likewise the wife toward her husband. A wife does not have
authority over her own body, but rather her husband, and similarly
a husband does not have authority over his own body, but rather
his wife. Indeed, I wish everyone to be as I am, but each has a
particular gift from God, one of one kind and one of another. Now
to the unmarried and to widows, I say: it is a good thing for them
to remain as they are, as I do, but if they cannot exercise
self-control they should marry, for it is better to marry than to
be on fire. To the married, however, I give this instruction (not
I, but the Lord): a wife should not separate from her husband -
and if she does separate she must either remain single or become
reconciled to her husband - and a husband should not divorce his
wife. [1 COR 7:3-4, 7-11]

Being Subordinate / Wives / Husbands / Christ's Church |
Wives should be subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord. For
the husband is head of his wife just as Christ is head of the
church, he himself the savior of the body. As the church is
subordinate to Christ, so wives should be subordinate to their
husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ
loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her,
cleansing her by the bath of water with the word, that he might
present to himself the church in splendor, without spot or wrinkle
or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. So
(also) husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He
who loves his wife loves himself. For no one hates his own flesh
but rather nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ does the
church, because we are members of his body. "For this reason
a man shall leave (his) father and (his) mother and be
joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."
This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and
the church. In any case, each one of you should love his wife as
himself, and the wife should respect her husband. [EPH 5:22-33]

Wives / Husbands |
Likewise, you wives should be subordinate to your husbands so
that, even if some disobey the word, they may be won over without
a word by their wives' conduct when they observe your reverent and
chaste behavior. Your adornment should not be an external one:
braiding the hair, wearing gold jewelry, or dressing in fine
clothes, but rather the hidden character of the heart, expressed
in the imperishable beauty of a gentle and calm disposition, which
is precious in the sight of God. For this is also how the holy
women who hoped in God once used to adorn themselves and were
subordinate to their husbands; thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling
him "lord." You are her children when you do what is
good and fear no intimidation. Likewise, you husbands should live
with your wives in understanding, showing honor to the weaker
female sex, since we are joint heirs of the gift of life, so that
your prayers may not be hindered. [1 PT 3:1-7]

Prisoners / The Ill-Treated |
Be mindful of prisoners as if sharing their imprisonment, and
of the ill-treated as of yourselves, for you also are in the body.

Imitate God
/ Live in Love |
So be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love,
as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us as a sacrificial
offering to God for a fragrant aroma. [EPH 5:1-2]

Immoral and Impure People / Deception by Empty Arguments /
Wrath of God Upon the Disobedient |
Be sure of this, that no immoral or impure or greedy person,
that is, an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ
and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for
because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the
disobedient. So do not be associated with them. [EPH 5:5-7]

Immorality / Do Not Associate With Immoral People |
It is widely reported that there is immorality among you, and
immorality of a kind not found even among pagans - a man living
with his father's wife. And you are inflated with pride. Should
you not rather have been sorrowful? The one who did this deed
should be expelled from your midst. I, for my part, although
absent in body but present in spirit, have already, as if present,
pronounced judgment on the one who has committed this deed, in the
name of (our) Lord Jesus: when you have gathered together and I am
with you in spirit with the power of the Lord Jesus, you are to
deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so
that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. Your boasting
is not appropriate. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens
all the dough? Clear out the old yeast, so that you may become a
fresh batch of dough, inasmuch as you are unleavened... [For
Christ] has been sacrificed. Therefore let us
celebrate the feast, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice
and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and
truth. I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral
people, not at all referring to the immoral of this world or the
greedy and robbers or idolaters; for you would then have to leave
the world. But I now write to you not to associate with anyone
named a brother, if he is immoral, greedy, an idolater, a
slanderer, a drunkard, or a robber, not even to eat with such a
person. For why should I be judging outsiders? Is it not your
business to judge those within? God will judge those outside.
"Purge the evil person from your midst." [1 COR 5:1-13]

Immorality |
And do not become idolaters, as some of them did, as it is
written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up
to revel." Let us not indulge in immorality as some of them
did, and twenty-three thousand fell within a single day. Let us
not test Christ as some of them did, and suffered death by
serpents. Do not grumble as some of them did, and suffered death
by the destroyer. [1 COR 10:7-10]

Refrain From Immorality and Impurity / Immorality and Impurity |
This is the will of God, your holiness: that you refrain from
immorality, that each of you know how to acquire a wife for
himself in holiness and honor, not in lustful passion as do the
Gentiles who do not know God; not to take advantage of or exploit
a brother in this matter, for the Lord is an avenger in all these
things, as we told you before and solemnly affirmed. For God did
not call us to impurity but to holiness. Therefore, whoever
disregards this, disregards not a human being but God, who (also)
gives his holy Spirit to you. [1 THES 4:3-8]

Present Yourself Acceptably / Impart Truth Without Deviation |
Be eager to present yourself as acceptable to God, a workman
who causes no disgrace, imparting the word of truth without
deviation. [2 TM 2:15]

Imperishable Inheritance / Trial of Faith |
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in
his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that
is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you
who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a
salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time. In this
you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to
suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your
faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though
tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at
the revelation of Jesus Christ. Although you have not seen him you
love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him,
you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain
the goal of (your) faith, the salvation of your souls. [1 PT
1:3-9]

Independence From Material Goods / Desire to Be Rich |
Indeed, religion with contentment ["independence from
material goods"] is a great gain. For we brought nothing into the
world, just as we shall not be able to take anything out of it. If
we have food and clothing, we shall be content with that. Those
who want to be rich are falling into temptation and into a trap
and into many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge them into
ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all
evils, and some people in their desire for it have strayed from
the faith and have pierced themselves with many pains. But you,
man of God, avoid all this. Instead, pursue righteousness,
devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. [Taken from 1 TM
6:6-11]

BIG Book of Latin Activities For Catholics
Beginning - Intermediate (Vol. 1)
"Suitable For Children Or
Adults!" ~ "Perfect For Home Schoolers!"
+ + +
As many faithful Catholics already know,
the majestic
Latin language – the 'official language' of the Catholic Church –
promotes unity, helps safeguard the purity of doctrine, connects us with
our Catholic ancestors, allows us to pray in "one voice", and even ties
back to the inscription on the Cross which was written in Hebrew, Latin,
and Greek. The Latin language is still used today in the precious
treasure that is the
Traditional Latin ('Tridentine') Mass, in 'everyday speech' (much of
English is derived from Latin), in mottos, in specialized fields, and in
educational endeavors. It has been shown that the study of Latin brings
many benefits. "And, Latin is truly the language of heaven!"
If you enjoy Latin, you may be glad to know that
this full-sized (8.5" x 11"), tradition-minded publication features an
assortment of activity types related to Latin (including: word searches,
crosswords, coloring activities, challenges, fill-ins, spelling bee,
quizzes, unscrambles, true/false, multiple choice, matching, cross-offs,
circling, word associations, translation exercises, and more...), and
treats of various topics (including: common Latin words, Latin language
facts, Latin grammar, nouns & verbs, abbreviations,
phrases / sayings / mottos, prefixes, cardinal numbers, grammatical gender,
inflection, word roots, diacritics / accenting, pronunciation, Latin
prayers / hymns, Scripture verses, Catholic phrases, and more...).
