Seek Heavenly Treasure |
He said to (his) disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not
worry about your life and what you will eat, or about your body
and what you will wear. For life is more than food and the body
more than clothing. Notice the ravens: they do not sow or reap;
they have neither storehouse nor barn, yet God feeds them. How
much more important are you than birds! Can any of you by worrying
add a moment to your lifespan? If even the smallest things are
beyond your control, why are you anxious about the rest? Notice
how the flowers grow. They do not toil or spin. But I tell you,
not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of them.
If God so clothes the grass in the field that grows today and is
thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for
you, O you of little faith? As for you, do not seek what you are
to eat and what you are to drink, and do not worry anymore. All
the nations of the world seek for these things, and your Father
knows that you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom, and these
other things will be given you besides. Do not be afraid any
longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the
kingdom. Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags
for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in
heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy. For where your

good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even
sinners do the same. If you lend money to those from whom you
expect repayment, what credit (is) that to you? Even sinners lend
to sinners, and get back the same amount. But rather, love your
enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then
your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most
High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be

another king advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops? But
if not, while he is still far away, he will send a delegation to

not give its light, and the stars will be falling from the
sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. And then
they will see 'the Son of Man coming in the clouds' with great
power and glory, and then he will send out the angels and gather
(his) elect from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the
end of the sky. Learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its
branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is
near. In the same way, when you see these things happening, know
that he is near, at the gates. Amen, I say to you, this generation
will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven
and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in
heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert!
You do not know when the time will come. It is like a man
traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in
charge, each with his work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the
watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the lord of the
house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at
cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you

your joy may be complete. I have told you this in figures of
speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in
figures but I will tell you clearly about the Father. On that day
you will ask in my name, and I do not tell you that I will ask the
Father for you. For the Father himself loves you, because you have
loved me and have come to believe that I came from God. I came
from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the
world and going back to the Father." (Then) His disciples said,
"Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of
speech. Now we realize that you know everything and that you do
not need to have anyone question you. Because of this we believe

you believe now? Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived when
each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave
me alone. But I am not alone, because the Father is with me. I
have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the
world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered

Coming
of the Holy Spirit After Jesus Leaves |
The Advocate, the Holy Spirit that the Father will send in my
name - he will teach you everything and remind you of all that (I)
told you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as
the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be
troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I
will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I
am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now
I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens
you may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the
ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, but the
world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the

Coming
of the Son of Man /
Being Prepared |
For just as lightning comes from the east and is seen as far as
the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the
sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its
light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the
powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son
of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will
mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of
heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels
with a trumpet blast, and they will gather his elect from the four
winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. But of that
day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the
Son, but the Father alone. For as it was in the days of Noah, so
it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. In (those) days before
the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in
marriage, up to the day that Noah entered the ark. They did not
know until the flood came and carried them all away. So will it be
(also) at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be out in the
field; one will be taken, and one will be left [to perish]. Two women will be
grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be left [to
perish].
Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord
will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known
the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed
awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, you also must
be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will
come. [MT 24:27, 29-31, 36-44] [Note: Explanatory text has been
provided in brackets. Despite current notions to the contrary
among some anti-Catholic sects, Jesus has only promised a Second
Coming. Therefore, those not taken must be left to perish.]

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the
angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the
nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them
one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the
goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his
left. Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who
are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you
from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me
food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you
welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.' Then the righteous will answer him
and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or
thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and
welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or
in prison, and visit you?' And the king will say to them in reply,
'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least
brothers of mine, you did for me.' Then he will say to those on
his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire
prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you
gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a
stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no
clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.' Then
they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or
thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not
minister to your needs?' He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you,
what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do
for me.' And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the
righteous to eternal life. [MT 25:31-46]

When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, "Lord,
do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume
them?" Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to

The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of
the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things. But the one who
comes from heaven (is above all). He testifies to what he has seen
and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. Whoever does accept
his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy. For the one whom
God sent speaks the words of God. He does not ration his gift of
the Spirit. The Father loves the Son and has given everything over
to him. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever
disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains
upon him. [JN 3:31-36]
