The
LORD says to you, my lord: "Take your throne at my right hand,

sovereign might the LORD will extend from Zion. The LORD says:
"Rule over your enemies! Yours is princely power from the day of
your birth. In holy splendor before the daystar, like the dew I begot
you." The LORD has sworn and will not waver: "Like Melchizedek

The
people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Upon those who
dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone. You have brought them
abundant joy and great rejoicing, As they rejoice before you as at the
harvest, as men make merry when dividing spoils. For the yoke that
burdened them, the pole on their shoulder, and the rod of their
taskmaster you have smashed, as on the day of Midian...For a child is
born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They
name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.
His dominion is vast and forever peaceful, from David's throne, and over
his kingdom, which he confirms and sustains by judgment and justice,
both now and forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this!

spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be

The days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new

LORD. But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of
Israel after those days, says the LORD. I will place my law within them,
and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be
my people. No longer will they have need to teach their friends and kinsmen
how to know the LORD. All, from least to greatest, shall know me, says

Shout
for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel! Be glad and exult
with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem! The LORD has removed the
judgment against you, he has turned away your enemies; The King of
Israel, the LORD, is in your midst, you have no further misfortune to
fear. On that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not, O Zion, be
not discouraged! The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a mighty savior;
He will rejoice over you with gladness, and renew you in his love, He
will sing joyfully because of you, as one sings at festivals. I will
remove disaster from among you, so that none may recount your disgrace.
Yes, at that time I will deal with all who oppress you; I will save the
lame, and assemble the outcasts; I will give them praise and renown in
all the earth, when I bring about their restoration. At that time I will
bring you home, and at that time I will gather you; For I will give you

Lo,
I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me; And suddenly
there will come to the temple the LORD whom you seek, And the messenger
of the covenant whom you desire. Yes, he is coming, says the LORD of
hosts. But who will endure the day of his coming? And who can stand when
he appears? For he is like the refiner's fire, Or like the fuller's lye.
I will draw near to you for judgment, and I will be swift to bear
witness against the sorcerers, adulterers, and perjurers, those who
defraud the hired man of his wages, against those who defraud widows and
orphans; those who turn aside the stranger, and those who do not fear
me, says the LORD of hosts. Surely I, the LORD, do not change, nor do
you cease to be sons of Jacob. Since the days of your fathers you
have turned aside from my statutes, and have not kept them...for indeed
evildoers prosper, and even tempt God with impunity. Then they who fear
the LORD spoke with one another, and the LORD listened attentively; And
a record book was written before him of those who fear the LORD and
trust in his name. And they shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, my
own special possession, on the day I take action. And I will have
compassion on them, as a man has compassion on his son who serves him.
Then you will again see the distinction between the just and the wicked;
Between him who serves God, and him who does not serve him. Lo, I will
send you Elijah, the prophet, Before the day of the LORD comes, the
great and terrible day, To turn the hearts of the fathers to their
children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come
and strike the land with doom. Lo, I will send you Elijah, the prophet,
Before the day of the LORD comes, the great and terrible day.

and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not contend or cry out, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break,

And
in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of
Galilee, called Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was
Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the
angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is
with thee: blessed art thou among women. Who having heard, was troubled
at his saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this
should be. And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast
found grace with God. Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt
bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be
great, and shall be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God
shall give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign
in the house of Jacob for ever. And of his kingdom there shall be no
end. And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know
not man? And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come
upon thee, and the power of the most High shall overshadow thee. And
therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the
Son of God. And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a
son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that is called
barren: Because no word shall be impossible with God. And Mary said:
Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word.
And the angel departed from her.

Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man
was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the
Holy Spirit that he should not
see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought
in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:
"Now, Master, you may let your servant go
in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel."
...Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold,
this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to
be a sign that will be contradicted and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of
many hearts may be revealed." There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the
tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with
her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the
temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and
spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of
Jerusalem.
