"[Jesus
Christ] instituted seven Sacraments." (Catechism of St. John Neumann)
"Can. 731 §
1 As all the Sacraments of the New Law, instituted by Christ our Lord, are the
principal means of sanctification and salvation, the greatest diligence and
reverence is to be observed in opportunely and correctly administering them and
receiving them." (1917 Code of Canon Law)
"The
institutor of anything is he who gives it strength and power: as in the case of
those who institute laws. But the power of a sacrament is from God alone...
Therefore God alone can institute a sacrament." (St. Thomas Aquinas, Doctor of
the Church and "greatest theologian in the history of the Church")
