Unfortunately, this is
not something we could help with. We regret that we are not able to provide
direct financial assistance to visitors (we oftentimes struggle about covering
our own costs). Also we, unfortunately, are not personally aware of others who
have excesses that would be able to help. Many people nowadays seem to be
struggling financially. We also do not have a forum for such requests on our
site. And even if we could allow third-party requests for donations on our site
(which we cannot), it seems doubtful there would be a very favorable response to
appeals for donations by unknown individuals. Please keep in mind that visitors
might (wisely) be uncomfortable giving a stranger their banking information
(e.g. a check with their bank account number and signature). Furthermore, it
could be problematic as donors might want some personal details concerning the
family and/or their financial situation (e.g. number of children, address to
mail check to, phone number, etc.) and they would wisely be cautious about
providing such information to strangers. Our site really isn't suitable for this
(in fact, our 'prohibited items' page indicates that we may restrict/prohibit
requests for donations).
Please keep
in mind that Catholics are 'always' being asked for money for various causes and
appeals from unknown persons may wisely be met with great caution (or simply
ignored). Also, no matter how worthy
the cause, it can be VERY difficult to get people to part with their money.
Furthermore, people who do find they have excess funds may already have favorite
causes/charities they like to give to, not to mention needy friends and
relatives that seek their help. My guess would be that this might be better done
at the parish level where people already know the family. Perhaps someone active
at the parish could be trusted to make inquiries on their behalf? Or maybe a
local Catholic charity or government program could provide assistance? Also, I
believe some people have had success with online fundraising campaigns. Whether
that would be a good idea or not, I really couldn't say.
In case it
helps, please note that we do have a section where people can request low-value,
non-cash items. To post a request for such items in the Give & Take section,
please visit
here.
Lastly, we know that
God provides, so the family should ask perseveringly for His help. They might
also consider requesting others' prayers (e.g. try
here).
Prayers are so very powerful! And regarding prayer, if one is (hopefully) able
to receive Holy Communion, the few minutes afterwards is the 'very best' time
for petitioning as you are so closely united with our Lord at this time. A very
wise priest recently reminded us of this great and powerful truth and I think
it's very good to keep in mind.
Best wishes to you all
for God's blessings.
