According to St.
Thomas Aquinas, Doctor of the Church and "greatest theologian in the history of
the Church"...
"Nothing
prevents one and the same thing being loved under one aspect, while it is hated
under another. God loves sinners in so far as they are existing natures; for
they have existence and have it from Him. In so far as they are sinners, they
have not existence at all, but fall short of it; and this in them is not from
God. Hence under this aspect, they are hated by Him."

"The Most High
himself hates sinners, and upon the wicked he takes vengeance." (Sirach 12:7)
"Whoever would love life and see good days must keep the tongue from evil and the lips from speaking deceit, must turn from evil and do good, seek peace and follow after it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears turned to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against evildoers." (1 Pt. 3:10-12)
"But God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us." (Rom. 5:8)
