Lay men should NOT
have their heads covered in church (generally speaking). Women SHOULD have their
heads covered in church. For a scriptural reference (e.g. 1 Cor. 11:3-16, which
reads, in part, "Any man who prays or prophesies with his head covered brings
shame upon his head. But any woman who prays or prophesies with her head
unveiled brings shame upon her head"), please see the page
here under "Proper Dress For Church"
[Note: It is said
'generally speaking' above in case there is some legitimate health or safety
reason or "approved mores of the people or peculiar circumstances of things
determine otherwise" (1917 Code of Canon Law). To inquire about such cases,
consult a good priest.]
