"I received bad advice from a priest. He didn't seem to care about my situation at all."

I'm sorry if you were poorly treated by a priest and received bad advice. This has happened to me as well, and it can be very hurtful. Yet, don't give up and do not despair. If the priest is normally kind and wise, perhaps he didn't understand the situation when you spoke or perhaps you caught him at an inopportune time. Also, since priests vary in both manners and wisdom, it may be useful to meet with a different trusted priest. Perhaps you could explain what happened with the other priest and ask for clarification or assistance. It may be wise to make an appointment in advance so that the priest is prepared to speak with you.

One thing you don't want to do, however, is go 'priest shopping' (e.g. going around from priest to priest until you can find a priest who says want you want to hear, even if it is not true). Sometimes religious truths can initially seem harsh, but often a caring priest can explain things so that they are easier to accept. It may be within a priest's purview to help you understand & accept truth, but it is not acceptable for a priest to distort truth in order to please people.

Again, I am sorry for your experience and I hope you will find a caring priest who can give you the help you need.
