"Is it my understanding that the New Mass (from the 1960's) is legal. There is so much confusion regarding this. My neighbor stopped going to the New Mass..."

Yes, the Novus Ordo is "legal" (to quote one good, holy diocesan priest I know: "The best thing you can say about the Novus Ordo is that it's valid").

As we state on our site, our position is that the Novus Ordo Mass is valid (when said with proper matter, form, and intention), although we fear it may be harmful (especially to faith in the Real Presence and fear of the Lord) and tends to encourage irreverence and sacrilege. Thankfully, however, the Traditional Mass is still licitly available, so it's possible to attend the ancient Mass. For more information, try here.

Did you know? It is still possible – thanks be to God! – to lawfully attend the Traditional Latin Mass. The Traditional Latin ('Tridentine') Mass differs from the 1960's Novus Ordo Mass in many & significant ways (try here for more information).
