| According to St.
Catherine of Siena, Doctor of the Church... "[E]very good
deed is rewarded, and every fault is punished." Regarding a reward, Scripture states
that... "Anyone who gives
you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you,
will surely not lose his reward." (Mk. 9:41) Likewise, note that
every sin must be punished, either by ourselves, or by God. As St. Augustine,
Doctor of the Church, says... "Every sin is a
debt which we contract towards Almighty God, and His justice demands payment
down to the very last farthing." Scripture states
that... "Do not plot to
repeat a sin; not even for one will you go unpunished." (Sirach 7:8)
