A Baptist who is
converting was told his baptism was accepted by the Church and that they were
*not* planning to give him baptism.

I spoke with a very
good, holy & obedient priest+ about your situation and he recommends the "safer course of
action" – i.e. having a conditional baptism. He says he is a little "scrupulous"
about this, but he recognizes that baptism is so very important. He noted that
Baptists might not believe in
Original Sin and what not, so this might raise
concern about a Baptist's baptism. Even if the Church rules a baptism
legitimate, he says he prefers the "safer course" of giving a conditional
baptism. If you have not heard of a conditional baptism, it is like a regular
baptism, but the priest says something like "IF you are not baptized, I baptize
you...". If the person was validly baptized to begin with, the conditional baptism has
no effect whatsoever. If the person was not baptized, the conditional baptism would be
their actual baptism. It cannot hurt to have a conditional baptism. I would join
this good priest in recommending you be given a conditional baptism. There is
no downside.
God bless you &
welcome to the Church!
